iPhone 5s home button

I have a iPhone 5s 64gb model and upgraded it to iOS 11, I really like iOS 11 but the only problem is while the home button worked fine in iOS 10 it does not work in iOS 11. sometimes it does but it usually doesn't. is there any way to get the home button to behave in iOS 11?

Define, "It works sometimes, but others it doesn't"

What characteristic defines "works"? Does it take you to the home screen as expected? Does it do Apple Pay ?

sometimes it will take you back to the home screen but most of the time it won't, and sometimes touch id works but again usually not. i have the on screen home button enabled thru accessibility so it is usable but would like it to work normal.

Have you tried setting your iPhone as new? Perhaps when you did the update, a setting or settings didn't properly migrate and are causing issues.

I have not tried that as of yet. maybe tonight I will, that has to be done thru iTunes if i am right

It can be done on the standalone iPhone as well.

Restore as new using iTunes, you’ll get a much better result. Hopefully it’s not a hardware issue...
