Just tested on my old iPhone 6 which is on iOS 12 GM. I force quit all apps first, so none of these are loading from memory.

I used the stopwatch on my iPhone 8. I tapped the app icon and start button at the same time and then tapped stop when the app fully loaded. Obviously timing won’t be perfect, and I’ve rounded tunes up or down a bit for presentation.

Settings = 1 second
iMessage = 1.5 seconds
YouTube = 3 seconds
Uber = 2.75 seconds

I think your iPhone 6 needs its battery replaced or has a fault of some other kind.
They don’t even have a 6 and haven’t for sometime.

This video was wonderful!!!! Thank you for it!!!

I have my 5s as a backup. I use it all the time around the house because it's cute and light. It works fine.

Here it is the speed test for the 5S.
Keep in mind that it’s a 5 year old phone! :D

I haven’t measured with a stopwatch. Those measurements are based on how long I feel the delay is. iPhone 6,5s is unusable. Even budget $150 Androids perform better at this point.

For someone who does not even use the iPhones you are referring to you sure have some strong and misguided opinions. . . We have two 5S iPhones with the original batteries that I am preparing to replace. Settings open in one second or less. Other apps are similarly responsive. And we are running iOS 10.

I don't plan on upgrading the iPhones in the foreseeable future. . . They meet all our needs and we use them every single day. Only paid $199 each brand new in November 2013.

I got the battery replaced last year. That’s not the issue. I haven’t timed it with a stopwatch. Those annoying delays before launching basic apps like settings drive me crazy. I just tried Uber and YouTube and it takes 5-6 seconds on my phone. The intention of my post was not a mathematical measurement but to quantify how annoying it is to use phones like these. They are not usable in that form.

Did you time Uber and YouTube with a stopwatch? Otherwise, we have to assume that these are also measured in time which is apparently anything from 2x to 10x slower than time measured by anyone else?

The iPhone 6 takes 3-4 seconds to open settings. 8 seconds for YouTube. iMessage takes 2-3 seconds. Uber takes 7-8 seconds. The 5s would be even worse. In what universe is this usable?

Seems like Uber and YouTube have been upgraded on your phone by up to 60%, just by having a source you can’t deny. That’s a win, you must be happy.

Please stop using seconds to “quantify how annoying it is” if you’re not actually measuring in seconds. Just say “I’m really annoyed. Like 8 out of 10 annoyed!!!!”

As an iPhone 8 owner I didn’t find it that bad going back to a 6 for a little while and can’t help think you’re exaggerating a little.

Okay but I still find it unusable. I use an iPhone X on a daily basis and a 7 Plus occasionally and the 6 is absolutely atrocious.

Seems like hyperbolic overgeneralized alternative facts are still needlessly filling up threads.

1 second to open settings and 3-4 seconds to open YouTube is still pathetic as these are basic apps which used to open instantly on the same phone in the good old days of iOS 8.

Anything below the 6s would be downright unusable and a horrible experience. If a phone takes 8-9 seconds to open YouTube, it’s as good as dead.

Even the 5c of my daughter does not need that long. If these numbers are factual, there is something wrong with the phone.

Bear in mind that’s opening them from scratch. It’ll open Settings almost instantly if it’s been opened recently. And third party apps like YouTube, some/most of the responsibility is with Google, the app developers, no?

Even on my iPhone 8 it can take up to around 2 seconds to open YouTube from scratch- about 1 second on the splash screen and another to fully load the video previews- which is going to vary based on conditions beyond the phone (internet speed, traffic, etc.). If it’s already open, it’s instant.

I just did a screen recording of my iPhone 6.

Settings in iOS 11 taking more than 1 second

Settings in iOS 12 takes 1 second

I was correct with Uber. Takes 9 seconds to load

https://www.videosprout.com/video?id=148a1d0e-1cfa-43fb-ab8d-61475fb83879

YouTube takes 5 seconds

Basic apps like these should take 1 to 2 seconds to load to be a usable phone. I have a Moto G 2016 which cost $150 which opens all these apps including settings faster than my iPhone 6 does though its running on an outdated Android version. This is a bargain bin phone which is why I say anything slower than that phone is unusable.

Thats what I am saying. This is the speed necessary to enjoy a device. If it takes 5 seconds to load, it kills the enjoyment factor.

Here’s a video I just recorded. I open each app from scratch and then again after it’s loaded. I go through the apps again just to give you an idea of how smooth it feels after that. At the end, I force quit them all and load from scratch again.

Uber in particular is a lot faster on my iPhone 6 than yours. Settings seems faster too. To me this is all very usable.

I would like to see a video of your budget Android phone opening these apps. My experience of budget Android phones is that the whole user experience is poorer- scrolling and navigating has low FPS etc. Even if the apps do take longer to open on an iPhone 6, the overall experience is still very smooth.

*note that the quality and frame rate of the video is lower than the actual live experience, which is buttery smooth!

The apps load instantly, it’s the internet connection that’s the issue. Are you running 802.11B speeds?

The phone is the issue, not the internet. These same apps load instantly on iPhone X, 7 Plus. I will post a video once I get home on how even the Moto G is faster in loading in these apps.

Certainly seems like it's time (and has been for years now) to move on and use products from a company that makes actually usable ones.

The apps load instantly, if the phones’ hardware is the issue you’re just realizing what some on the forum has been saying for years.
