It's the power button. Mine does this and so
does all the 5s displays at my local apple store. It's not no camera.
I've had several iPhones and examined many others. It seems some people have a defective power button, but for most it is the camera.

I see. Well my camera is fine. My power button has a little but of play that is causing the rattle. In my opinion all of them have this on the iPhone 5s at least the ones that were on this display at my apple store. I dont want to swap out my phone if the replacement white box phone is going to do the same thing.
I swapped mine today, as I expected the power button was still loose but the silent switch no longer rattles, so one problem down....one to go. The button isn't as snug in the casing as it could be so unless they address this in manufacturing the issue won't be resolved and all replacements in the future will be like all the models currently on display.

As I mentioned earlier - what is there to work on? The sensor needs to be loose so that it can move freely as needed. If there was no rattle - that would mean the sensor was not loose - and therefore would not work correctly.
Elemenop27, I agree with you completely. It is an issue with the loose power button on your 5s as I had a new slate 5s serial number first 3 digits C39 with the same issue as yours. I scheduled an appointment with the Genius Bar and had to be firm with the associate to get the replacement although it is a refurb with serial number starting with NE or ME (don't recall right now as I am currently using the 5c). I am glad you are on this forum to share your findings with us and that you are adamant in clarifying this issue for the community. Thank you.
Did you have to set up a Genius Bar appt or just walk in? Thanks
This /\ does not warrant a replacement. Machined aluminum parts are a bit loose to allow movement. This in no way is a faulty product. Way to suck up the supply.![]()
It's not the sensor, it's the lens. The lens needs to be able to move to focus. The sensor is stationary.

I made an appointment after talking to Apple Care the night before. Apple care rep agreed it should not rattle. Genius agreed this should not rattle. Then when the genius got the new phone and it rattled..."O that's probably just normal then". Don't get me wrong everyone at Apple I have spoken with has been very helpful and polite, unfortunately though they probably don't get told anything by the higher ups and a lot of times just have to fly by the seat of their pants.

My 4S never rattled...also why is there never any rattle reported from the volume buttons then?
My guess is someone either botched the measurment/manufacturing of the button and/or slot in the case.....or this was done intentionally because 5 users were actually reporting a button failure and this looser button on the 5S was the fix?
