Actually, the 'S' cycle phones are probably the ones to wait for after the problems are ironed out of phone that precedes it.

For example, the 4S is way better than the 4, albeit the same form factor.

.

This is true. If you're going to only get one phone every two years, the S version is the best one to get.

Apple is making quality phones for people that appreciate a good user experience and long battery life.
We're very content and happy with that.

Those of you that want giant screens and a buggy OS should get something else.

I agree. The iPhone 5 is the best phone on the market IMHO; however why ignore that huge part of the market wanting a phablet. I don't want a 5" phone and will never buy one, but Apple is stupid if they don't release a larger option. Nobody ever went broke selling products people wanted to buy.

If you own the following phones:

Iphone 5- Not worth upgrading
Iphone 4- Not worth upgrading
Iphone 4S-Not worth upgrading
Iphone 3GS-Move to Iphone 5 for $49

or.....for all of the above and 7/10 Chinese customers, BUY A SAMSUNG S4

Note: I have an Iphone5, Ipad4, rMBP, new Imac 21, a mini and my wife has a 4s. I am not a troll, but supremely disappointed in the direction Apple is going. Why do you think the stock is in the tank? They need a reality check in Cupertino.

You complain about Apples latest products, yet you buy them all? Am I missing something here?

Why do people want phones with massive screens? Is it for an actual practicality reason, or just that it 'looks better?' I mean, who in the right mind would do image editing etc on a phone? Really not understanding people's needs. It's not the hardware apple needs to improve, it's the software.

Not sure if many people have noticed this, but why is iOS so inconsistent? Look at the iPad and the mac, they have that grey and black theme throughout the whole OS, but the iPhone still retains this blue theme, yet apps like maps have the new silver theme, it makes no sense.

Yesterday I saw a phablet for the second time in public, and before I realised what it was I had already gasped aloud and said to my friends, "what a moron, the device that idiot is holding to his ear is ENORMOUS and looks so stupid." Then I realised it was one of those phablets, my initial reaction was thus validated and my friends just laughed and all agreed he looked utterly ridiculous holding that enormous thing to the side of his head.

He may look ridiculous with the thing but at least he can redeem himself by sharing his playlist with other phabots through an act of mere hand to eye coordination. Can you bump that with your iPhone?

Would you want to?

What difference does it make why people want larger screens? If people want them, somebody will sell them.

Why though? Surely if you want a device with a bigger screen, you'd get a tablet? As opposed to having a massive phone that barely fits in your pocket?

I wonder how much they can do without making the camera sensor physically bigger

They will very likely use a stacked image sensor (i.e. Exmor RS), which have numerous benefits (higher quality, smaller, thinner).

Apple will never enable the illegal distribution of music via one of their devices, so no.

People rarely carry their iPad around with them, but they take their phone everywhere. When out in public a 4.8" device in your pocket is a lot more useful than a 9.7" tablet on your nightstand.

Cuz it's not at all about what you can do with it, people. It's how it looks holding it up to your head that counts.

-battery life could be better
-ios should be overhauled, it feels dated, especially on the ipad, on the phone it could be done better as well
-i preferred the strength of stainless steel vs. aluminum. granted it was a weight trade off.

as you can tell I agree with part of it but at the same time the devices are not perfect. (this post isn't aimed at you, just below is my thoughts)

i have lots of apple devices in the house/work. i may try android this time around though, unless ios is overhauled
---
Battery life could easily be better but for the 5 they chose to make it thinner instead of adding extra battery life. perhaps they pushed the threshold of too thin at the expense of functionality.

i'm mostly near power so it's not a big deal but i do run low/out on occasion. usually because ios multitasking isn't performing well and some app in the background is sucking down all my battery life and i don't realize it until too late.

i don't want a monstrous phone but i was hoping the 5 would have had a slightly bigger screen instead of just longer with thinner bezels so it didn't increase much in size.

I think the biggest problem is IOS, it has largely remained unchanged with a few necessary improvements such as notifications. ios 6 was very disappointing and may as well have been a point release.

turning bluetooth on and off for example takes way too many steps. especially clicking on bluetooth setting just to be taken to the same thing with a slider. i'll just stop here.

i do want to see more from apple.

Some of us would prefer to choose the technology that gets the job done best, rather than worry about what a bunch of sniggering 13-year-olds think. I don't have a phablet, but it's becoming clear that as people try to do more and more things on their phones, little screens like the iPhone has just don't cut it.

I'm sitting in front of a computer all day. I don't need a phone to do all those computer tasks.

I'd actually like something SMALLER. I'd love a Dick-Tracy Watch Phone. I've been hoping for Apple to release something like that for years. What's out there is not what I'm looking for yet. Once it gets there, I'll get rid of my large 4" phone and replace it with a small watch.

I'm looking for a mobile communication device - just texting and calling people and maybe using Siri for quick sports score lookups when I'm on the move. Anything else, I'm next to a real computer quick enough to get that info.

So according to you, in order to release an innovative phone it needs to have the following:

A larger screen
A better camera
A new charging method
Improvements in the operating system
Next generation payment options
A better processor
A thinner case

You do realize that the iPhone 5 contained every single one of these improvements, right? Sure, the charging method is a bit of a stretch, but I'm just having a hard time understanding why everyone thinks Samsung is so damn innovative when they improve their phones in the exact same ways that Apple does. The methods that they deploy to improve their phones might be different (NFC vs. Passbook), but let's not pretend Samsung is reinventing the wheel every time they release a new phone.

Thank you, everyone knows if apple changed the look of the iPhone everyone would be talking about how much of a monster hit it is, the sales speak for themselves. It is a hit. Going from an iPhone 4 to a 5 it is indeed a much better phone. Bigger screen, faster, lighter, thinner. I'm not sure why everyone is complaining? It looks to much like the previous iPhones? Do you want apple to make it plastic or something? Just for the sake of change?

Let's face it, the A6 is already as powerful as anyone currently needs. Quad core would be extreme overkill with no performance bump.

Very true: the iPhone 5 delivers an incredibly smooth experience. However, Quad core would make sense if iOS7 goes big on multi-tasking and human interface innovation.

I might have said the same thing, but this is exactly the argument RIM made.

i have a analogy for this:

"the iphone will become soo thin and you can break it in half like a slice of bread"

It may not be that now, but its defiantly coming close.

All we need now is butter and i'm all set :)

If iOS 7 required a quad core processor, then it wouldn't work on any previous device.
