13 MP

Lets me ask you guys a question:

If the iphone 5s gets upgraded camera ... that would mean more megapixels yes ?

If so, then why is Apple touting that ".......multiple lenses with an 8 Megapixel camera would get sharper images ..."

Standing by this...... just add more lenses.....

Isn't this the Apple way ?

May sound like a silly question, but I'm looking at the more photography world where people do things right, by increasing megapixels, rather just adding layer of lenses to make it better.

If iOS 7 required a quad core processor, then it wouldn't work on any previous device.

As we know, Apple's approach is generally to support the last 3 generations of devices at least, nonetheless, the oldest devices routinely deliver an experience that is okay but not "great". So it would work but not as seamlessly as the latest iPhone model

People are getting so ants in the pants over nothing "new" from Apple

iPod, 2000, brought the portable player market to its knees.
iPod Video, 2005, WTF people will pay for tiny ass video player's
iPhone, 2007, brought the then Smartphone market to its knees
iPad, 2010, killed the netbook market overnight and has disrupted PC sales, competition still getting its act together

It is now 2013, not even quite 3 years since the first iPad, we are now on iteration 4, likey iteration 5 by the end of the year. In terms of hardware offerings I'm not to worried about Apple need to rush to the "next best thing". I'll give them another 2 years(5 total since iPad 1) before I start to worry if Apple's lost the development magic, 2 years after (7 total) with nothing... then we could really be seeing a problem.

In the mean time I'll take an App/Keyboard/Mouse/Game-pad, HD spitting, air playing AppleTV re-up that can stand as middle man's between all my things (iPod, MacMini, iPad, etc) and my bigger living room TV/Projector or a friends setup, or the one in the conference room.... You should be getting the idea at this point. Let's say if this rolls out with iOS7 around WWDC that would shut up some "analysts".

Although I wouldn't say no to some haptic magic on the touchscreens over thinner and lighter designs.

apple knows where the puck is going.

What's really sad is Apple used to have a single event for the iPhone because there was so much brought to the table. Now it's shoehorned in with others to hide the fact it's starting to lack.

The thing is, and maybe I'm reaching here, Tim is keeping the current lifecycle for products around too long so he can save money on margins through mass purchasing of the same components.

It's time to start the engine back up. "It just works" no longer applies. Might even need to dip into the cash saved. While Maps and Siri are hit and miss, they need new reasons to upgrade your iPhone. Just cutting things out of iOS doesn't cut it fully. Remove and ADD. It creates a full tipping of the scales.

iOS 7 has to be QCed out the wazzo. It has to have features that work with exclusive hardware. Why wasn't NFC paired with Passbook? Why didn't Apple take the lead and write an API for it, and get partners on board?

Post PC world? Let me sync my Nano with my iPad!

Also Apple, it wouldn't hurt for you to test your devices in areas where signal varies.

Ketchup

The iPhone 5S is still months away from mass production, but our source suspects that the star feature will be an upgraded rear camera--perhaps featuring Sony's 13-Megapixel sensor, plus the aforementioned flash upgrade--along with a processor bump.

That sounds like a good move. Apple might finally catch up to the competition, camera-wise, with a new CCD.

Wow, so many people getting so worked up over a rumor about a phone that might or might not be released for another 7 to 10 months. Seriously, I can't believe some people read this rumor and get upset at Apple.

C'mon, have a little faith. After all, this is the same company that made the GS3 look like amateur hour with the release of iPhone 5 and made all 7" tablets into the eReaders that they are with iPad mini. Even Samsung is unlikely to make the investments necessary to build something like the iPhone 5 ; at least not anytime soon.

Where I think Apple needs to make bolder moves is with their software and services. I'm expecting bigger things with iOS 7, though nothing mind blowing. But, I think that speaks to the maturation of this market. After all, the most significant addition to Android in the past 2 releases IMO was Miracast, an Airplay clone which Apple released 3 years ago.

Not that I disagree - but the fact it's in place -
would this not also make it possible to display 1080 to HDTV's through the dock like I use on the Yamaha theater system.
Whoops - now an adaptor to old style dock plug.

Don't think I can wait almost a year for the retina mini.

They should just add 1080p rendering capabilities so that it could display 1080p videos to HDTVs

Let's face it, the A6 is already as powerful as anyone currently needs. Quad core would be extreme overkill with no performance bump.

True to that. The iPhone is a really fast device. Apple need to add something big

Why so many apple haters on MacRumors these days.... gotta wonder why you are all so glued to a Mac lovers forum.

Let's not get to angry with rumors everyone... iphone 5X is months away now. GEez

Sure the stock took a beating, lets not forget its up like 2000% over the last decade

damn, this news sucks. why would anyone consider such upgrades when people are basically doing the same thing on their phones? all I see people do is play games, listen to music, and surf the web on a small display. I would consider Samsung's flexible display concepts though, when they come to market.

A lot of complaining based on rumors in January. Seriously people?
This is MR, what do you expect? Only this group can get angry about a rumor some guy heard in the bathroom while he was cleaning out the john.

Plus you can really see the difference between the "kids" and those that actually have other responsibilities in life. Whining about a cell phone and how they're going to switch if apple doesn't come up with something great is awesome! Stop threatening to switch and do it ffs. The same whining about these rumors will be the first in line ready to drop their cash into Apple's pocket.... even if the phone doesn't do what they want!

I can one up this claim and guarantee that the iPhone 6 will sport a 15 MP rear facing camera along with a 5 MP front facing camera plus the A7 chip featuring dual quad core processor.

This straight from Tim Cook as I am his right hand man.

Retina Mini will be pretty nice. I wonder what the price change will be if any? I don't think I can wait that long. I see a regular mini in my near future. :)

Me too but i also need the A6 to have 64 voices of poliphony in my pocket...ehm..jacket.

I don't care the hardware upgrade. Still I can't a way to fully use my iPhone5 performance.
iOS is great in this area. Quad-core? Only Android need to care this. OK may be we need to care after one more years. But in the short future, I can't see the reason why we need to move towards to Quad-core, as we have no usage now.

But for the iPad I would care about the hardware, especially the size of ram. I, and I think most of us, like to view high resolution photo on the iPad. Many times I open 3 or 4 websites with many photoes, and it always reload when I move back to the previous tab. The calculation speed of the iPad is excellent. But more memory would be perfect.
