Apple should double the battery life of the 5S compared to the 5. That will get people to switch quickly.
Why is it I get the feeling that if Apple doesn't come out with a new form factor every year, a lot of folks on here are going to cry and moan?
Sorry, but not everyone can afford a new phone every year.
At least describe what you're looking for. Share some specific examples of what you want from the next form factor, and what you think iOS 7 needs to include to satisfy you. -and don't just list a bunch of crappy "well Android's is can do this so iOS should too" bologna.
You want Apple to innovate? Try innovating your forum posts...
/rant
For all the people who keep saying that not everyone updates there phone yearly, and Apple doesn't expect you to - Apple does not mind at all if you update your phone yearly I assure you. Some people CAN afford to update yearly and why should you care if they want/expect a new form factor yearly? Because you can't afford/don't want a form factor yearly, those with the means are wrong for expecting it?
You want specific examples of what I want in a phone? I want a 5-6" screen. I have freakishly large hands, it wouldn't be a problem at all for me to operate it with one hand. To that extent they could they could get rid of the real estate on the front of the phone that isn't screen to cut down on the size. One tiny slit at the top and bottom of the screen for speaker and mic would be fine.
The Beats audio integration into the new HTC One would be a nice improvement with the new iPhone. Apple and Monster already have worked together before, why not do some iPhone integration. When I'm sitting in a hotel room watching a sexy video message sent to me why can't I hear it at a sound above a whisper? The speakers on the iPhone currently are trash. For that matter the ones on the iPads do not exactly cut it for me either.
With a 5-6" screen on my iPhone, I would completely do away with my iPads. As it is for the most part now they are stuck to magazine rack use in my bathrooms. I've scrapped using iBooks for Kindle app that way I can read books on my mobiles as well as my computers if I wish.
Until they take iOS closer to OSX I find taking an iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Air with me on trips to be a bit overkill. Which brings me to my next point. I would LOVE to have a phone capable of running an actual OS. They are slowly trying to take OSX closer to iOS, so if the two meet in the middle with an OS that runs across their computers and portables I am fine with that. That way I can purchase one license for iLife and use it across all devices rather than buying it for my computer and then turning around to buy a watered down version for iPad/iPhone.
I enjoy the integration across the devices currently (and that is the ONLY thing holding me to an iPhone and not switching to HTC One, if it ever comes out). I do believe though they could clean this up a bit. The calendar app could really use some TLC.
More freedom to use our devices as we see fit as we have to pay for them would be nice. If I want to use my iPhone as a tether without downloading a flashlight app, or jailbreaking I would enjoy the option. If I don't want to use stock apps, I want the choice to remove them rather than hide them in a folder on a back page. Personally I like widgets and would like to have them. I can use them on my iMac, I want them on my iPhone.
As someone mentioned before the notification screen could use some work. The swipe to delete idea would be amazing.
Someone mentioned virtual buttons to use for games. I don't care if they would be usable for games, but a portion on the back of the phone to be touch screen could help those with small hands.
I want an SD slot. A lot of people don't care about them and can do without. I want one. It is a couple hundred bucks to go from an 8GB iPhone to a 64GB iPhone, but I can purchase a 128GB SD card for $90... So give me an SD slot.
While we are dreaming, how about Apple throws in a battery that lasts me longer than 8 hours. Whoever makes me a battery that I can squeeze a full days worth of use out of will get a Christmas ham from me for the rest of their days.
Themes wouldn't be a terrible idea. I don't care about Twitter or Facebook being built into it. I use neither and could care less about them. But I wouldn't mind a page like the One that I could set up with news I want in a flipboard manner. An App drawer would be nice as well. I love having a lot of apps, but realistically I use few of them on a frequent basis. I like having minimalistic layouts on phones/computers/ect. and the ability to hide most of my apps in an app drawer would be nice over having folders and pages of apps.
I'd have zero problems paying $1000 out of pocket for a phone like that. Something that gets me closer to a "mini computer" 6" is obviously not going to keep super users who NEED to be on a computer, but if I'm on a quick trip it would do fine for me. 6" is big enough for me to watch video on or read a book if I'm on a train or flight.
I understand for Apple it is counterproductive to make any one device be able to do the job of another. It cuts profits. So making an iPhone that could somewhat freeze out the iPad mini would be foolish. For those of us that would rather have one device to rule them all though it would be nice. There is only so much "innovation" they could do with smartphones I agree. But you give me a full OS with a larger screen and we are talking.
I don't need the octo-core crap Samsung is coming out with as Apples software and hardware are tied together. It wouldn't need all that. Performance now is fine for me, the iOS is stale and I would rather have something closer to OSX so I am sure a bump up in processor, gpu, ram would be needed. They could give me that screen size, keep the thickness of the iPhone 4 to pack it all in and I wouldn't mind.
More steak than bologna.
You have it all figured out and the competition has what you want so why don't you buy it??? You said you have the means to, so why have you not got the 5in Samsung for your big hands??? I'm fine with 4in. and I think I might get an iPhone with a 5in as well. I didn't know that was innovative? I still don't understand why you have not got all those phones that are so much better. And to say you would get rid of iPads & iPad mini's? Really, one inch would do all that for you?
Why do you want Apple to make your phone when HTC & Samsung have what you want already? Makes no sense to me, I'm happy with the featureless iPhone! Sounds like you own one too, strange, you don't like it, and as you say have the means of getting a new phone every year. Why don't you just get what you want and let Apple do as they do. I still don't get that one inch on screen size would make you give up everything else, that just blows me away??? So why have you not bought a Samsung Galaxy?;![]()
Alas, ARM emulation on Intel s*cks (both in performance and battery drain). And Apple doesn't switch CPU ISAs without offering a temporary emulation layer for a few years.
More likely is they use their $Billions to bribe Intel into fabbing their custom ARM SOCs.
They look especially brick-like when people put them in thick rubber cases to correct their all-glass construction.
Good lord, the S4 isn't even out yet and you are quoting how much money Apple has in the bank? Really fanboys you need to stop saying how large Apples bank account it, that has NOTHING TO DO with the future of the companies ability to come out with new products that people want to buy.
Hmmm gee, I want a new phone, Apple has xx money in the bank, so no matter what I am buying an Apple phone?? Really, you think THAT is the thought process of consumers these days???
I also hate to burst your bubble but Apple is a hardware company too...and please do not diminish Samsung, they are a HUGE multinational company that makes a tremendous amount of consumer products, some of which the best available on the market.
Thanks for the xda link.
However, I have to disagree on Android 4.2.2. On my Galaxy Nexus, 4.2.2 has made what I think is noticeable difference in terms of smoothness: transitions between screens are iOS smooth now4.1 was not the same.
You don't read very well do you? I didn't realize that the Galaxy ran a full version of OSX, had a 6" screen, had touch screen on the back, had integration with all of my other Apple devices, a re-worked iOS notification screen, a full day battery. Not to mention I put down Samsung. You read my top paragraph saw 5-6" in my next paragraph and then just automatically think you'd take a shot at what I said?
He asked for specific details as to what people want in their next iPhone so I threw my ideas out there. I'm sorry you are seem so offended that people can afford yearly iterations. Yes a 6" screen would be fine for me to get rid of my iPads. My MacBook Air takes up roughly the same space as my iPad if I need something that needs a bigger screen.
I'm happy for you that 4" is fine for you. Judging by a lot of comments in this thread, and the fact that Samsung seems to have picked up speed and is steamrolling the smartphone market. The average consumer prefers more screen real estate as well
Why would I "have got all those phones that are so much better."? Why would I need a stack of phones? Where did I say there are all these better phones? You infer too much. Between your wording and pulling comments I said out of thin air you look ignorant.
Next time you want to try to pick apart someone's post you should read it first. If the S4 does infact have everything I listed that I want in the next iPhone I will run right out and buy it this instant. You know, seeing as though it must be out according to you. I'm extremely surprised it is running an iOS/OSX hybrid and integrates with all my other Apple devices. Thank you for opening my eyes.
I'm still hopeful that Tim Cook saying they're not taking the breaks off, then updating the iPad after 6 months, means that an incremental upgrade like 5S would happen after 6 months, i.e. this month or next.
Rumours had the 5S already in production.
My hopes feel supported.
6 monthly updates, please, Apple.
Wait, I am confused here. Why the hell are you reading/posting in the 5S thread? The 5S doesnt exsist yetwait im confused here, but why the hell are you mentioning the 5S? it doesnt exsist yet
I'd love to use mine naked, but I get the antennae bridging problem. It's still an attractive phone, but it doesn't work properly without a case and it looks fat compared to the 5![]()
The new iPhone will not receive a major upgrade and may just be a slightly enhanced version of iPhone 5 (iPhone 5S), the sources said citing their latest specification data.
Why bother to even release this phone. How stupid do you think we are? Take a back seat Apple to the Samsungs of the world who are really innovating.![]()
Maybe it's the quality, C.S. and that iPhones are just very well built and have a complete Ecosystem that works extremely well! All my Apple products run together smoothly! Apple's OS's are very intuitive & very fluid . I think that's why a lot of people are willing to lose a few features & real estate, it's to keep a great product in their hands and not deal with inconsistent crap.
But if Samsung HTC or other's that have the screen size's you want why have you not bought one or what phone do you use at present time? Do you have an iPhone 5 and do you like it? Just curious.
You're welcome for opening your eyes, it was my pleasure!
And thank you for putting me in place.
I should have never "picked apart" your post without reading it, SHAME ON ME!
Please except my apologies!!!
Looking forward to the new iPhone 5S. I'm sure it's going to be great, even if its just an updated 5.
How so many Apple users can deny or ignore the depth & breadth of Samsung is a true reflection of a narrow mindset. It serves no purpose, unless of course it's an ego booster to those who practice denial.Good lord, the S4 isn't even out yet and you are quoting how much money Apple has in the bank? Really fanboys you need to stop saying how large Apples bank account it, that has NOTHING TO DO with the future of the companies ability to come out with new products that people want to buy.

Opening my eyes? Not quite. Also again you pretty much end with why don't I switch because the screen size. Once again pretty much skimming rather than reading and processing what I have reiterated over and over on multiple posts. I haven't switched because I'm stuck in the walled garden because of the integration between all my Apple devices.
Demo'd the iPhone 5, was left unimpressed. I like having my phones naked and when I had the iPhone 5 it was prone to chips and scratches and didn't do it for me. The improvement in screen being a little taller without being wider was meh. Speed wise I was convinced it performed any better.
You are welcome for me pointing out your lack of reading comprehension skills. You are welcome for being put in your place. Your apologies are accepted. Next time we will work on helping you form paragraphs rather than large text blocks that are a pain to read.
yeah but 3g -> 4 is a whole new design.
I've said it for some time now. It's quite simple - Apple needs to differentiate in order to meet the tidal wave of competitors with maturing offerings. They should have
Small thin slow (since it is small and thin)
Medium (thin faster bigger)
Large (fastest, thin and bigger)
I would probably own both a large and a small since they are totally replaceable since they are synced. Small for casual use and large for business and trips.
Step up the game Apple!
i can already imagine aapl dipping below 400 by the end of the year.
Who in the hell drew that chart, look at the axis, 0-5-9-14 are they on crack? Wouldn't EVER trust anyone that skews figures like that.
how can you be overlooking the 5 itself already? it's an all metal, unibody cell that is wicked thin and light. it's like a well built watch, not a mobile. that engineering process IS innovation.
But the tiny tiny screen is what really makes it look silly.
