Why do people want a bigger screen? The best thing about the iPhone is its form factor if they're going to make it huge like the other phones I might as well get an Android.

well, i guess im selling my iphone 5 now before it loses market value so i can my hands on a 5S or 5C

Hm... I wonder if this would also be used to distinguish which finger is pressing the button? E.g., to assign different functions to different fingers?

I see the home button as the same as usual and the fingerprint sensor incorporated into the screen. Makes most sense imo.

Wouldn't placing the scanner on the home button lead to a bunch of accidental button pushes. Seem like that would be annoying.

I'm thinking it would only be a scanner when it needs to verify it's you (like at lock screen or keychain access) so it wouldn't really be problematic. If it's a time to scan, it could ignore the "push".

My question is, if it can sense my finger passing over it, can it be used a directional sensor / trackball type interface...?

A fingerprint scanner seems cool. But why haven't they put fingerprint scanners on the MacBooks? There's been fingerprint scanners on PC's since I don't know when, but we have a 2007 Toshiba Qosmio with one.

I think they should put fingerprint scanners on the Macs too. I'm sure they could do it discreetly, because that's how Apple is.

A convex home button? That seems very un-Apple. We shall see...

Yeah considering I watched a video once with an Apple executive saying they designed the iPhone with a concave button, because it was smarter than other manufacturers, since it avoided accidental presses. If they go convex then they're totally going to contradict themselves, lol. Of course they really only have so many choices with limiting themselves to the same design in the S year.

Who cares about a 4.7 inch screen? The only reason large screens should exist is to give the phone more room for better batteries and other hardware for specs, and the iPhone isn't really lacking in those categories.

Or maybe because larger screen = larger screen.

It's better for reading websites/emails, gaming, watching movies, etc.

I don't think the fingerprint sensor is gonna show up this year. Usually by now someone would have taken a picture of the part but still nothing.

Some people do care about the screen size. I have friends that wanted an iPhone but they didn't like the screen size. I don't blame them.

You think that's the only reason? How about to ugh... see more stuff on the screen?

Excited about a new iPhone but wish they'd go straight to the iPhone 6. They can't afford a small update at this point with the competition being tougher than ever. But hopefully the phone itself is "iPhone 6"-worthy even with a iPhone 5S name. I'm sure the fingerprint sensor/button will be amazing, and most likely flatten when phone turns over if convex. What do you guys think?

WHAT? There is so much room for improvement for the battery. I'd love a 24 hour battery! And let's get a quad core processor! ENOUGH of this "it's good enough" attitude, that's why the iPhone is failing.

You don't need a quad-core processor on ios, what on earth are you doing on your iphone? Only the Moto X boasts a 24 hr battery and we shall see how 24 hr it really is. I wouldn't call it failing just cuz you're not satisfied, you have other options...

!

Don't they mean the home button is going from "convex to concave", not the other way around. Convex means bulging out, which will leave less room for anything else. Concave means caving in, which would make more sense.

So with a convex home button, wouldn't that mean that when laid face-down, the iPhone would wobble from the extruding home button? I don't see that happening. Apple likes their devices to be flush and fluid as possible. The only main exception to this is the new iPod touch, but the iPhone is Apple's main flagship product now.

People place their phones screen down!?

The likelihood of a convex home button with the fingerprint sensor built in is extremely low. This just isn't a good design. It's more likely for the finger print sensor to be built next to the home button under the glass. Convex buttons even sapphire crystal ones are a design mistake for something that is supposed to be flat when laid down. I would say the likelihood of a convex sapphire crystal button to be less than 1%.

I agree but my engineers at work both have iPhone and both really would like a larger screen for tech spec diagrams, blueprints, etc. For some it makes sense like these guys. But for most, the screen they have now is fine.

So yes, I still think 4.7" screens are dumb. But they can always make one for a sub-segment.

Yeah for me if I really want extra screen real estate, I'll carry along a tablet, otherwise what's the point of having one.
