How much you want to bet that you can pop in any sim card in the world and any verizon LTE phone will work?
get your info straight first.

All LTE Verizon phones come factory unlocked due to their 700mhz licensing.
iPhone 5S works with AT&T LTE and T-Mobile ( I didn't check LTE specs for HTC M8) but it would benefit HTC to have all bands to support LTE from AT&T & T-MO.

The only difference is Verizon won't take any other phone that is not certified for VZW so you can't take AT&T 5S to Verizon for example , from Verizon you can use your iPhone anywhere but sprint.

I wouldn't bet anything. I do it all the time. :)

When a Verizon rep says I'm not going to be able to use the smartphone when I buy it off contract, I just snicker.

I would advise against buying someone's upgrade, because too many people do fraud like that where they buy a phone on discount and then don't pay the bill or open the account via fraudulent ID's etc and the #1 person that pays for it all is the buyer of that device.

Also as other members have said, we can 100% verify their claims about Verizon smartphones being unlocked:
- All LTE Verizon smartphones are Factory Unlocked -- meaning you can just pop in any GSM SIM card and use those phones on other network*** Given the phones support their frequencies and LTE Frequencies.
- Do note that Verizon does cripple Android phones APN fields --- making it extremely difficult on many smartphones for users to get Data working --- since Verizon can't lock these phones....this is how they "lock" them but have no fear as there are many workarounds are available on XDA forum.

I have personally handled the following smartphones from Verizon and has no issues [except for APN editing on the few androids]
- iPhone 5/5C/5S --- iPhone 5 = UMTA/HSPA+ On ATT/T-MO but no LTE / 5C/5S all HSPA+LTE worked 100%
- Z10/Q10 -- Worked fine
- Note II -- Worked fine on UMTS/HSPA+ AT&T & T-Mobile [NO T-Mobile 1700AWS Support]
- S4 -- Worked fine on UMTS/HSPA+ AT&T & T-Mobile [NO T-Mobile 1700AWS Support]
- HTC ONE M7 --- This one is hardly useful in USA because it lacks UMTA/HSPA+ bands for T-Mobile/AT&T and lacks all other LTE bands.

This is not correct. VZW uses CDMA, AT&T uses GSM. Also, their LTE frequencies differ. The phone can be made to work on it, but you need an unlocked unit, which you won't get from VZW.

I've used HTC phones for over a decade, and love them. I've had no issues other than when I drove over one.:D

All verizon 4g phones come unlocked.
