Better battery life is my top wish list for iPhone 5S. Not only better but significantly better. If not, then ill just continue bringing power bank with me.
I just find it funny that sometimes fingers are pointed at the iPhone 5's battery life when users don't actually realize how good they've got it compared to the competition.
But here's to hoping they do even better in the future. It's everyone's dream to have a phone they can take with them, turn on all the cool features, and not worry about charging it for a few days.
Begin looking forward to iPhone 6 this time in 2014. That's when shape and size change. Battery will be better, bigger and iPhone efficient. I'd expect 25% improvement.
The battery life could be slightly improved battery, but it would really depends on your use and ios 7![]()
and newer and more efficient circuitry.
In the end the battery will be more than enough for the average user.
Apple can only plan for average and not for people who spend their life on their phone.
You hit it right on the head and out of the park. Its first a phone with limited space, not like a notebook computer or a tablet, but some think its their personal computer in a small case and should last all day and into the night. Just think, some notebooks only last 12 or less hours or so and they have hug batteries. Same with a tablets. Tiny batteries, less time...Simple. Apple will improve this over time, but lets get real.
The thing is, for many folks the iPhone works as their main computer. It isn't just a phone to them, its a full fledged computer. I will frequently use my iPhone for word processing with pages, emails, Text/iMessages, reading iBooks, forums, etc. Really the only things I do on a computer that I really have no interest doing on an iPhone are playing games (IOS games have not interested me) and creating/updating spreadsheets.
I understand what you are saying from a practical standpoint, but there are a lot of folks who really use the heck out of their iPhones (me included), and would like to see more battery life. Apple should make this a major priority, and I hope to see a fair improvement in battery life for the iPhone 5S.
Edit: I feel like I should also mention that I own an iPad 4 because I can see the "use an iPad" argument being used since it has such amazing battery life. I don't always haul my iPad around. While it is a small device, it doesn't have near the convenience of an iPhone.
They should really fix the battery life. The new moto X quadruples iPhone 5s battery life and that's an android phone.
I wouldn't hold your breath, the 5 has worse battery than the 4S
Okay sorry, I was being a little over dramatic. But it still has very good battery life and I think Apple is ready to compete with that.
i won't hold my breath for a year but i will ask you to tell me i was right october 2014.

you are simply incorrect. The iphone 5's battery is a fraction of the size of the moto x battery and yet matches it's longevity in several areas.

i am so fed up with this "quadruple" bs on these forums. Apple iphone 5 exceeds moto x on video playback with a fraction of the mah's.
That is WAY too ambitious for 100mAh and a tick-tick chip update. 8-12%
and newer and more efficient circuitry.
In the end the battery will be more than enough for the average user.
Apple can only plan for average and not for people who spend their life on their phone.
Yes it could, but to the MacBook Air side, the huge battery gains were from the new Haswell CPU with a new architecture.
Maybe an A7 chip with a new design.![]()
My guess is it will have a slightly improved battery life than last years model.
Nothing too crazy from where its at now but would be nice if it was a big improvement.
my main concern about the i5 battery is that it doesn't last at least as long as lasted my iphone 4S.
Of course i had to charge the 4S everyday, but it was quite rare that I wouldn't finish the day on a single charge - with the 5 it happened to me a lot with the same usage
I understand that some people use their phones more than others but the only way Apple can fix this is to make the phone battery larger as you can not pack more power in the same size battery using the same chemistry.
Apple has made the iPhone 5 so thin now, that it will actually bend. I have no problem with increasing the phone thickness by 50% but this would be a step back wards with many of the fashion conscious iPhone users! For people who HAVE to use their phone more than "average", you will have to do a mid day charge.
I understand that the iPhone is a great battery efficient phone. The technologies in the software and hardware that work together to save battery is phenomenal. But what I think this year or next year apple is going to introduce a the new Lithium Ion battery everyone has been talking about that can last on a week charge. Or maybe even other battery saving technologies (for example the new battery efficient API's in iOS 7). Even to go along with the new release of the Macbook Airs with the day long battery charge. Imagine that. thats a laptop. The iPhone is smaller and uses less power. They can market the iPhone to have maybe even 2 day battery life with different technologies. But again. No one really knows.
Just my two cents![]()
you really can't compare the iphone to the the air when it comes to battery life. 2 different animals. The iPhone, in it's current physical state can't accommodate much more battery. It's going to take new technology to really get a big boost in battery life. It's 100% not happening this year. And I would be really surprised if it happened next year either. We'll get slightly better with a new chip and better management, but nothing giant. Maybe the big feature of the 6S will be new battery tech. but not right now.
Im actually preparing myself for a rather boring announcement on the 10th. Usually I get myself all excited for the keynote, but not really this year. Gonna be pretty uneventful with maybe a minor exception for some new FP scanning technology, which could be pretty cool.
but for the average user, having to charge the phone is an annoyance - perhaps more so than for 'power users' who are more conscious of their battery life, tweak settings to keep it going etc. apple is the best at removing all minor annoyances from consumers, and (as i think they're beginning to show with their laptops) battery is the next big barrier to break. i wouldn't be surprised if apple leaps ahead of the competition in terms of battery life soon (though don't think it will happen with the 5S) just as they leapt ahead in terms of pixel density with the 4
