Not considering that the A7 was twice as fast as the A6, which was twice as fast as the A5, which was in turn twice as fast as the A4.

The iPhone 5s was something like 8 times faster than the iPhone 4, and that was in the course of 3 years. 2 1/2 years later the iPhone 6s is only 90% faster than the 5s.

Not according to the benchmarks.

90% is close enough to twice as fast. With the gpu getting a 2 core bump probably more than twice as fast.

Relax, what are you talking about. The 6s has only truly been in customer hands for about 5 months, not even quite. This is still current tech, if you're going to be salty about this, you're just looking for reasons to complain at this point.

Salty? I'm being realistic. If Apple releases a new 4" iPhone in March, they won't turn around and release another one in June with the new 7-series features. So the 4" will be one generation behind from here on out. Again, not what we want.

Yes,
After the 5se(i do believe it will get another name)
There will be another 4 inch iphone in 2 years.
But you' ll have a 4 inch phone in a month that is fast en can drive a 1920x1080p display smoothly.
So what do you expect?
Even a faster 4 inch?
I do understand the need of a new 4 inch iphone now, because of the physical size of the 6/s.
But In 2 years time a 4.7 inch iphone could be almost as small as a 4 inch iphone 5s. It' s just progress. If apple makes a 4.7 inch iphone that is just as big and easy to handle as a 4 inch 5s, would' t you upgrade?
Or would you stay with a 4 inch out of principal?
Apple users, just can' t handle changes and progress very well....

It really is about the screen size though. Myself, and many others, can comfortably reach from one side to the other. A 4.7" screen is harder to do this. Remember those apple "thumb" commercials (it goes from here to here). Those were true, and they need to not forget us! While the form factor of the 5S is great, it really is about the 4" screen. They could make the phone even smaller and keep the 4" size, not really what you suggested. We do not want a larger screen in the smaller body, but the smallest body with the 4" screen size.

But if you have a 4.7 inch screen in a 5s body, and loose the homebutton, so the screen shifts down, it wouldn' t matter, would it? You can use the same grip you currently have and be able to reach the upper left with your finger.
It would be possible.

No, I - at least - wouldn't. Why do people have such a hard time understanding that it's not always about getting the biggest possible screen size?

If I want a bigger screen for whatever it is I couldn't do on 4'', I have an iPad mini...

Ahem, when the decision was to "escalate the war" in Vietnam and the U.S. president only takes notice in military dispatches which confirm his belief that "we are winning" the war, but ignores all informations that might indicate the contrary, than confirmation bias is not so innocent anymore.
****
I agree.
If you deal with such tragic events as wars, epidemics, world poverty, sexual abuses and so on, every bias becomes extremely dangerous and its consequences can be and often are devastating for human kind.

However we are not talking about world matters but just about electronic devices people buy, the topics usually dealt in the MacRumors Forum.
Regarding bias in such cases as a form of relatively harmlos self gratification one should disregard those indulging in it.
Let them be happy :)

Luckily we discuss in this forum just small objects of individual pleasure. :)
The sad and tragic side of mankind can be easely found elsewhere with little effort, unfortunately.

I want the smallest iPhone apple can make, period. If they make a smaller device than the 5s I will buy it. The physical size of the device is more important to me than the screen size.

As I said, we wouldn't be able to make decisions and stick with them, without some confirmation bias. Apple is really good at reducing options and offer clear alternatives. You usually end up with just one model that fits your needs.

I don't really give a s@#t what the name of a new 4 inch iPhone is I'm really only concerned with the possibility that if one buys it now they might come out with a 7 version several weeks later. However the processor boost is a nice touch.
