If you're still on a 6 then the answer is yes lol. 6 doesn't even receive updates anymore.

The 6 doesn’t need to receive updates to be functional (And when I say ‘functional’, I mean as in text/call/other simple tasking..) There’s still plenty of consumers who are using the iPhone 6 on the market, and when the time comes for their phone to be upgraded due to experiencing hardware issues/battery problems, then the SE will probably be the next target, but software frustrations with ‘lack of updates‘ probably isn’t enough to push an iPhone 6 owner to upgrade, especially if they been using a phone this long that launched back in 2014.

I know it's not going to suddenly not be functional, but receiving necessary updates are ideal especially for bugs. And yes, folks that kept it that long most likely aren't concerned about the updates (especially the simple call/text users). Folks that use the phone a bit heavier and care about the apps should upgrade though as they can be locked out of certain apps.

I have a 6s. It was a flagship phone at the time, and still works well. Apple moved on with a different design with the iPhone X. When I upgrade, I will probably step up to whatever the flagship phone is at the time, or possibly the XR successor. Really looking forward to wireless charging, as well as the high end cameras on the flagship models.

I have a 6S and use a £4 wireless adaptor that sits under my case...it works flawlessly.

if at how cheap the iPhone SE 2020 edition is priced at?

I mean if someone has a 6,6s,7,8 they can use the trade in credit to further reduce the cost of this iPhone from $399 to much less. It is a steal in my view.

It is a steal in the true sense of the word. Apple offer me £40 for my pristine 6S? Just for clarity, Trade ins do not reduce the cost of an iPhone, they just offer an alternate “currency” to pay for it (usually with a terrible exchange rate)

If you're using any of those phones, you should upgrade.

7 may be good for another year, but the original SE, 6, and 6s are likely going to be left behind with iOS 14.
There's no point of upgrading in anticipation of losing support. I'll upgrade when I need to. It's not like I'm screwed if I overshoot by a bit.

Because a 6S/7/8 work perfectly fine for 99% of users. No one wants to spend money for things that don't make any meaningful difference in use.
Yeah I have an 8 with 64GB, plus an old SE and an Apple Watch series 5 cellular. Really not sure what the advantage is going to the new SE?

or wait for the 12, but for those price sensitive customers this SE 2020 edition would be their best bet.
I get where you're coming from and I feel ya.

If it was up to me I would wait for the 12 Pro Max. But I am not price sensitive like some iPhone owners are.
The SE - both in 2016 and now - has always had two strong appeals: size and price. For the customers who like it because of price, yes, I'm with you. I was a day-one SE buyer in 2016 because of size, and for people like me, the rumored 5.4" iPhone 12 has a lot of appeal.

so you are upgrading to the 12 in the fall?

In the IOS 14 introduction article you posted it stated that all phones currently able to get IOS 13 will get iOS 14. Has something changed, because in this article you're saying my iPhone 6s Plus may be obsoleted for IOS 14. Can you clarify one or the other?
I read somewhere else that the 6s and old SE will get iOS 14 as well. Maybe it’s just a false rumor, but I wouldn’t be surprised given how capable and long lasting the hardware in the 6s has been. I still use my 6s at home a lot despite owning an X. It doesn’t feel particularly slow to me with the majority of apps I throw at it. Of course, it’s possible iOS 14 will slow it down so the update may not be that beneficial. My mom’s 5s definitely needs to be replaced this year and on paper the new SE sounds like the most logical choice, but I think waiting to see what Apple has to offer with the 5.4” iPhone 12 would be a smart move. The iPhone 12 intro is just 4 and a half months away.

I bit the bullet today and upgraded my grandma's 6. I'm hoping it's here by Mother's Day. When we got her the 6 several years ago, everyone said we were crazy for getting her a smartphone because she has trouble learning tech gadgets. Now you can't pry her off of it. Most of her adult grandchildren have moved away and started school or careers, and the phone is the main way for her to keep in touch (text, calls, Instagram, FaceTime, etc.). The phone has started showing its age, both physically and in terms of performance. I love that the new SE will be a form factor she's familiar with, keeps Touch ID which she's familiar with, but gives her an upgraded camera and faster overall performance. This should be good for another 6+ years, I hope.

Yeah sorry I and many other people aren't going to upgrade their phones considering it meets all basic functionality. I have an iPhone 7 that runs with zero lag or delay. I see zero reason to upgrade. When the batteries dies, I'll upgrade the battery first. Macrumors also does a lot of paid promotion of products, and biased coverage of Apple products in return for favorable treatment by Apple - so obviously it's going to push for a new phone when people's iPhone 6s and 7 are plenty fast for many more years.

Just replace your battery and also use low battery mode.

I'm also sticking with my 6, but the coverage here is pretty neutral. The paid promos are only for accessories.

Regarding Haptic vs 3D Touch, I wish places would do more of a deep dive rather than saying it offers the same functionality but without peek pop. I’m shocked to discover you can’t Haptic Touch notifications to see the full notification. Why wasn’t this carried across?

I have an iPhone 6s, very happy with it. To all the fan boys who call "no brainer": I have ZERO desire to "upgrade". I don't see how the iPhone SE would justify shelling out 600+ Euro and retire a still working iPhone. That's the real life.
[automerge]1587795228[/automerge]
Should you upgrade?

Only if you don't mind dropping $399 plus tax

+ Euro surcharge + upgrade to 128GB + fast charger + dongles for headphones + Apple Care + screen protector

I just replaced my iPhone 7 battery instead. It still works fine and is fast as the day I bought it.

I'm not upgrading to a phone that barely does anything new imo and looks like the one I've had for nearly 4 years.

I see no need to upgrade yet. Mostly because my 7+ is doing great still, takes pretty good pics and because upgrading a phone to run slightly faster and take slightly better photos is ridiculous consumerism. No wonder the world is drowning in e-waste, plastic, toxic chemical residue. Ultimate respect to those who who still lock and load a 4s.

Thank you for bringing us back to reality. So many threads where they ask if you'll be upgrading to the new iPhone this year, and what a perfect display of people's lack of real self esteem, when they feel buying a new phone every year makes them cool, and they never even stop to think of the e waste they're creating, and Apple isn't helping in that regard much either imo.

Personally, if I can get clarification on whether the 6s Plus will be supported in IOS 14 as the introduction to that new operating system stated it would, but this thread stated it would not, I will wait for the SE Plus in late 2021 and then purchase it, as it's bigger size is more appealing to me. If my phone is not supported, I'll most likely settle for the SE because I find myself using my phone much less now that I'm retired, and I don't really use it for watching video or surfing the net, so size isn't as much of a consideration as it used to be, I just have large hands so the larger phone fits more comfortably. The performance, battery and the camera upgrade on the new SE's when I do need it will be. Coming from a 6s Plus with the original battery which is now at 71%, yea, and I'm a tech. It's just such a pinta to do this any more on phones. I've moved my focus and setups to computers and back to pro audio. I haven't said yes to repairing an iPhone in 3 years, and I'm not about to do my own haha. The plumber's toilet never works mantra, lol.

I duno, I’m happy with my 6S+. It runs fine and most importantly has a headphone jack so I can use my better headphones.

I will miss that darn headphone jack IF I decide to upgrade. That is my one tilting factor that may keep me another year, although tbh I use the lightning adpator more than the jack lately anyway, because it's higher fidelity, it's just you can't charge and listen at the same time.

no reason for me to upgrade my 2016 iphone se...i take it to the gym (when it's open) and pop it into a bag on my bike, etc...so small is good and it's good enough for me for those uses...have an 8 plus for full time carry, text, work, etc...i'm good...maybe a couple years down the line for an upgrade? maybe not...like jazz baby said, why waste...my phones work...

Apple in April 2020 unveiled the iPhone SE, a new low-cost iPhone

I don't get why you insist on calling this a "low-cost" iPhone. What qualifies it as such? Being the lowest cost item in the iPhone line? Before the SE was re-released, there was the XR, the 11 and the 11 Pro. Was the XR the new "low-cost iPhone" then? Is the 3.5 GHz 8-core Mac Pro the "low-cost" Mac Pro just because it's the cheapest Mac Pro at $5999?

Upgrading from 6S.

looking forward to the better camera (occasional pics for family) and to having a phone that will receive OS update for the next few years.

also the less expensive costs of potential repairs is very nice to have.

I could hold onto my 6S, but I know I will upgrade eventually. Why wait if you can enjoy your new phone now. :)
