There is also the obvious factor that the Plus is a more expensive phone - $100 more for any model in U.S. For many, a new phone is a financial stretch anyway and especially now that most carriers are revealing true cost of upgrade in their pricing rather than quietly building it into their upgrade plan structures.

I was 2nd in line on launch day. I went in with my mind set on the 6+ for me and the 6 for my fiancée. I held the 6 and the 6+ before purchasing and I walked out with a 6.

The 6 was always going to be "more popular." The reason the 6+ Looks so demanding is the supply. Apple did not make as many, but they made sure they had enough iPhone 6 stock. From what I read it was a 7 to 1 margin.

As I've always said... The iPhone 6 is the immediate flagship successor to the iPhone 5s. The iphone 6+ is Apple venturing into the "phablet" market and it is also a flagship device.

Neither is better than the other... As much as people wanna make it sound so

LOL, $100? If you cannot afford the extra $100 you cannot afford the phone.

I think it is a couple contributing aspects... Availability and price points. As I waited in line all night at the ATT store, the next morning delivered a breath-depleting blow. Sorry we didn't get ANY iphone 6 pluses'. So the guy in front of me was saying the entire time that he was getting the 6 plus but in that moment, didn't want to waste his time/effort and didn't want to wait-he went with the 6. I'm quite sure he wasn't the only one in the masses of those waiting.

Yeah the first thing I thought with this is how many people got the 6 because the 6 Plus is sold out? Will definitely skew the numbers here until the inventory catches up.

This. I've had so many people come into my store for the 6 plus. Quite a few settled for the 6 (especially on launch day) b/c the plus wasn't in stock.

Even if it were the case that the 6 Plus sales numbers will catch up once supply and demand reach equilibrium, I think it's a good guess that the 6 will still sell more. The 6 Plus tends to be pretty polarizing. People either love it or hate it. Not as much with the 6.

It also costs less so this is to be expected. A Tight economy even for most Apple users and weighing bang for the buck, most people will choose the 6 over the 6+. No doubt Apple knew that, which is why there are more of the smaller ones available. It isn't rocket science, just knowing their market.

That is a ridiculous statement.

I suspect a lot of people changed their minds and that more still waiting for the 6+ will change their minds too after actually handling the two phones. When I first read about the 6+ I was excited over finally getting a larger screen, but after seeing it in other people's hands, I'm changing my mind. I think it is probably just a little too big to be practical for carrying around and handling like a phone, with the size especially a little too big for women and young people with their smaller hands.

I think you're right. But I'm not sure if it will be to quite this dramatic of a factor.

I agree with you in terms of budgetary issues generally, especially since the 2 year cost is so similar and you use the device constantly every day, but economics yo. people don't think in terms of two year price, partially because they have to take out subsidies/loans from phone companies and then pay those with a credit card to afford these phones

I mean, MacRumors tends to have a tech enthusiast/relatively well-off demographic posting here. That's not the majority of iPhone users in the US. Most people in the US live at or below paycheck to paycheck, especially if you take into account that people aren't properly insuring themselves or saving for a not-in-poverty retirement... meaning that they probably can't afford smartphones that cost over $1000 per year to use.

but back on subject, I thought I wanted the 6 Plus until I held it in my hand and knew that very second I would drop it 20x more than I would the 6 due to my hand size (which is still pretty big, as I'm well over 6ft). So I canceled my order on the spot and got a 6 instead. Maybe other people had the same thought process.

I don't understand all the people who think thy can't use the Plus one handed. I have had mine since release day and have no problems using it. I am a woman with relatively small hands. I carry it primarily in my pocket, not in my purse, and women's pants and jeans tend to have smaller pockets. I absolutely love this phone! I still wholeheartedly believe that once supplies equalize that the Plus will get more love.
