I usually skip apple care + coverage, the reason I bought it is because of how big the 6 plus is. I feel like there a greater chance I could drop it using 1 hand because of the size. I love how big it is, I'm just being cautious.

One other device I had the coverage on was my iMac, it had motherboard, graphic card and something else replaced, over $700 worth of work, it was sooo worth it.

which is often also covered by things like renter's insurance and can be way cheaper AND you know the quality of the item you are getting because you go and buy an new retail phone and they reimburse you at least a portion of that money. Rather than your carrier handing you whatever piece of crap they find.

Folks don't think about such policies and they can be way better. My policy is $199 a year and covers my computer, my tv etc and my cell phone. And my particular policy pays up to $300 of the replacement costs if my phone is stolen. Even if its not in my apartment at the time. Okay so sure that means I'm still likely out another $300 cause I'd have to buy full price but it's worth it to know that I'm not getting a phone such jackass jacked up and then traded in at the carrier

Most homeowners/renters insurance policies have a deductible for such things. For instance, my deductible is $500. So my out of pocket for a new phone in the event of theft/loss would be $500. As far as "new" vs "refurbished" I hear you. But if the phone works right I don't care. And if it doesn't I will be on the carrier's a** until they get me one that is.

Apple is a greedy bloodsucker

For what? Not underwriting your mistakes and accidents?

Guys, I recently made a post doing a thorough analysis of the various warranty/insurance plans (Applecare+ Squaretrade and Carrier) based on your personal risk history. Buying Applecare+ is definitely not a "no brainer" like some people say. If you say that you are either historically exceptionally clumsy or haven't actually done any calculations.

if you are flipping your mobile devices on eBay etc then having Apple Care can get you more money. Because the person knows they have a warranty if there is a defect. After all, who wants to pay $200-250 for a used phone then have it go down and have to pay that all over again. No one. Better to pay $300 for a used phone that has 10 months of warranty left

Ok, I have some noob questions. How can you sell your phone next year with Apple Care? Isn't it linked to the account and not the phone?
Does the $99 Apple Care even deal with dents or only screens?
I thought Apple Care is just an extended warranty for factory issues and that's it.
Thanks! I purchased Apple Care with my AT&T 6 Plus on their Next program and thinking of canceling it.

AppleCare is the name of the included one-year hardware warranty and 90 days of telephone support. There is no cost for this.

AppleCare+ is several things:
1. Bumps hardware warranty out to 2 years.
2. Bumps telephone support out to 2 years.
3. Adds coverage for accidental damage.
4. Adds advanced repair. ie they will ship you a replacement phone at no cost before they receive your broken phone.

For accidental damage, it covers from the screen breaking to the phone getting bent because you ran over it to washing it in the washing machine.

If you sell the phone, both AppleCare and AppleCare+ go with the phone.

Anyone tried Seccuranty? It has the best price from what I've been able to find. $100 for 2 years coverage and no deductible on claims. But I haven't heard of it from anyone else and am sketched out by that a little.

Dont even want to think about what the prices are gonna be in Aus.. However we do have a 24 month warranty here for genuine device faults (which Apple fails to mention to you at the store)

Apple should offer two year warranties for their iPhones in all countries! iPhones should ideally last 4-5 years for someone who doesn't want to upgrade. My 4s died it's second year through absolutely no fault of my own. Apple store said it turned out to be faulty hardware. But they said because it was out of its one year warranty they couldn't help me. After having taken great care of my iPhone, expecting it to last for a long time, I really felt like Apple didn't care about or respect me as a customer at that point. If they stand by the quality of their products, they should show it with a better warranty. To me a warranty says "this is how long we're betting our money it's going to work." We should obviously pay full cost for mistreating our phones, but for hardware defects, one year is almost insulting for a high quality product like the iPhone. Owners should have full confidence their iPhones will work as promised for two years standard.

I've got nothing against that, but my guess is that the majority of people getting AppleCare+ get it specifically because it covers accidental damage, which is something the one-year "included" warranty doesn't.

Not accurate.

so that's $240 over the course your contract and $100 each replacement, no matter the reason. So lets say at 13 months in your speaker stops working. Not wet, not dropped, just takes a dump. You are out of warranty with Apple at this point so you go to ATT to use your insurance. Which to date has cost you $130 and now you have to pay $100 to get it replaced (they don't do repairs). That's $230.

But for that $99 for Apple Care you would have a two year warranty and it would have been repaired for free.

You obviously haven't sold iPhones on eBay. I've sold my 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, 5S, and sold several iPhones and iPads for friends on there. I netted over $400 for my 4, over $400 for my 4S, over $500 for my 5, and over $600 for my 5S on there... no AppleCare. I have two lines so that I can upgrade every year, meaning that all but my 5S (I took a horrible detour to Android land to see what it would be like after all these years) had *just* gotten out of their 1 year warranty, to the day, when I put them up for auction.

Insurance is for losses that would cause financial hardship. If you can't risk a few hundred bucks for an unlikely repair, then the roughly $1000 yearly carrier charges are questionable.

SquareTrade is very good and I have an iPhone 5s and a $3k MacBook pro insured with them.
The only catch with then is even though they cover four instances, they only cover to the maximum value of the phone.
If each repair only costs $110 a pop for screens you make off but if you replace a full cost phone then you're all done.

Costco Amex extends the warranty by a year and offers 90 day accidental damage coverage. FYI.

This. But the trouble is that people don’t manage their money properly, (which isn’t to say that I do).
I must have saved hundreds over the years with no insurance, (on my Apple gear), but I haven’t put the money I’ve saved aside just in case.
I have savings but no figure as to what part of it I’d deem ‘insurance’ for this kind of thing.

So that's why Apple didn't make it waterproof. Like you'd expect from a current flagship phone.

I doubt that is the reason. After all if it was, why make it so cheap to replace the phone. They could have just never started the whole Plus and made even more money. Perhaps even gone so far as to say if you damage the phone you can't pay for a 'service part' and make folks go buy a $700 full retail unit.

I never bother with the apple care just here in the UK we get up to 6 years free cover anyway

Look here http://www.apple.com/uk/legal/statutory-warranty/

What's good is this EU law applies to anything electrical like TV PC etc the only problem is its not well known its kept very low key so I find it great news that apple have added it to the site

Its interesting to me that the EU law gives that coverage, but it seems like most every post on here from someone who tried to use it complains about how hard it is to get things fixed under it. Seems like the selling merchant rarely makes it easy.

Personally, I think most people in the US get AppleCare+ for its accidental damage coverage.
