Hard to tell if antenna breaks are place holders or real.
Hopefully they look better in the finished iphone6

I wonder what the black/gray version will look like.

Those breaks are hedious. There's no ways around it ... I hope they are place holders. As of now my iPhone 5s looks much much better

I wish I knew more about design, engineering, aesthetics, or something so I could put into words why I think that looks so bad.

Meh, I use a case so its not that big of a deal to me. Its just a shame for people that don't use a case because I don't think that is anything particularly nice to show off. I could see people buying thin cases just to hide its appearance.

Like mentioned what would be that devices saving grace if is if those breaks serve some other purpose. Some sort of wireless technology or something. I'm ALL FOR function over form (within reason).

I remember reading somewhere that the back might have the 2 glass panels just like the 5/5s so the breaks should look better

Going from the rear pics the iPod looks nicest, then the gold 5S, then the gold i6, then the grey i6.

Well those are mockups, clones of the real backs. I've read that case makers use them to make sure their cases fit. The real deal can be seen in a video I linked in a post above.

I wouldn't worry about that. The dummy phones aren't 100% accurate with the details.

Whatever it looks like it'll sell out as usual.

Apple will never make that mistake again. You can put money on that.

Its not bad.

But it should be like this, allows for a bigger battery. Comfy and ergonomic

IPhone mini. 3.5" screen. $399 cash. IPhone 5c specs.

It would sell out

Funny how these iphone mockups 2,3 years ago made it to the final production of flagship Android phones.

Android OEM's Industrial Design team: Look up iphone mockup. Boom We have come up with unique ergonomic designs.

This whole time, I haven't really paid attention to how ugly the antenna breaks are, because I just assumed that it would just come down to finishing details that the mockups did not include. But the closer we get, the more I think this is what it's actually going to look like.

Now, I assume this is the case because of some fairly substantial performance improvements that I expect I will be happy to hear about when they're discussed. That might make the blow easier to take, but it won't make this any more attractive. I find it hard to believe that there wasn't a better option that would still retain the functionality.

It's just physics. Good luck making a phone with good reception that has a solid metal backplate, you've just cut your potential reception quality in half (and that's in the best cases). The antenna breaks might be somewhat less aesthetically pleasing than a clean metal backplate, but they allow the phone to communicate with cell towers in all directions.

After all, the entire "Antennagate" controversy with the iPhone 4 was caused because people's fingers would bridge the two antennas, cutting out reception to the cell tower. Having a fully-metal backplate would be like antennagate on steroids.

You guys cannot honestly expect Apple to beat the laws of physics can you...?

I personally think it looks gorgeous, although they could tone down the color-contrast between the metal plate and the breaks, maybe making the colors slightly more similar so that it doesn't stand out so much.

So they couldnt use a 2-tone method again? or any other more aesthetically pleasing method? it's certainly not the end of the world, but I have a hard time believing this is the best execution possible. (if this is what it looks like in the final)

If you remember, a lot of people didn't appreciate the iPhone 5 at first either. Then, a few months later, when Apple had time to show it off in pretty commercials, they all bought it :p

I may very well buy this one too. But that won't make it any more attractive.

I do still have some hope that there are finishing details left unaccounted for that will make a difference.
