I did find one other difference. If you have a defect in the first year, Apple will fix it either way for free, but if it's in the second year, you'd have to pay $75 through ST, while Applecare would fix that defect for free.

This is a good article posted 2 days ago:

This is a great point that a lot of people don't seem to be picking up on and which I have personal experience with.

I bought AC+ on an iPhone 5 and about 22 months into ownership, the wifi and bluetooth started acting up. I took it in, they ran a test, found it to be defective and replaced with a brand new unit (not refurbished) and no deductible. I assume that if I had SquareTrade, they would have charged me a deductible?

So with AC+, you only pay the deductilbe on accidental damages...withe ST, you pay for both accidental damage and any other defects I believe.

What is Apple's cash price to replace the screen? That's the most likely thing you're going to break, and both ST and AC+ are a minimum $175 (premium + deductible) to accomplish that. Assuming you can limit yourself to breaking the phone only once you're no worse off not buying AC+, and if you don't drop the phone you're better off not buying it. Defects rarely appear late; if they appear at all, they usually appear early in your ownership, while still under the regular warranty.

I'm not so sure that's really true. I've had batteries and home buttons and mute switches go bad after the 1st year (they get used a lot). Based on the free-replacement-if-problem in 2nd year with AppleCare+ I think I'll go with that.

I bought a SquareTrade warranty on a device before AppleCare+ existed (it was just AppleCare, without the accidental coverage). At the time it was a way better deal, but since Apple offers something pretty comparable now, I tend to go with them. It's not that SquareTrade isn't trustworthy; I just trust Apple more, and I feel like there are less hoops to jump through.

If I get apple care or square trade I can just drop my verizon protection that I'm paying 10.00/month? I don't need both right. Also no local apple store like 2hrs away. Can I mail it or just drive there

With Squaretrade you have the option of having a phone overnighted to you, or going to get repairs from Apple and being reimbursed. AppleCare+ gives you the same options basically.

The only thing to keep in mind is that neither cover loss or theft, something which Verizon cover, but you definitely pay the price for it.

Cash price to just have the screen replaced is $109 for the 6 and $129 for the 6+

If you sign up for updates on Squaretrade's website they will frequently email you discounts, up to 30% off.

I just signed up for square trade over the phone, and the CSR lady verified that if you get your phone repaired at the Genius Bar, they will reimburse you for the full amount with no deductible. It be nice if they had that policy in writing somewhere, but I asked her twice and she verified it.

Also, if you order over the phone you can tell them you have a 40% off coupon code and they will apply it without checking.

Costco sells squaretrade. Can you buy it there without having bought the phone there?

Best insurance to get for iphone

I've looked around and couldn't find a thread so if there is one can anyone direct me to it.

I just got my 6+ from best buy and i have 14 days to get insurance there but was wondering what other options there are out there and what tends to be the best to get?

Applecare+ is good of course. $79 deductible with the convenience of same day repair/replacement at any Apple store. Also if you plan to sell your phone, having Applecare+ can get you a higher sale price.

There is also Squaretrade which is cheaper with a $50 deductible if you get it through Amazon.
