I'm genuinely curious why some people are bothered by the shutter sound. Personally it's not an issue for me and it doesn't bother me.

I don't take upskirt pics, but I can imagine some situations were I don't want to make noise. Like, think food pics in a fancy restaurant. Or just any situation you don't want to get attention. Price is very attractive though: http://www.iphone-worldwide.com/

I wonder, can't you simply flash it to an official non-JP ROM version? No Jailbreak, original Apple ROM. (no idea that's even possible, probably not I guess)

You can't flash an iPhone or iDevice.

I'm sure there are certain tools available to Apple employees and resellers, but those are not in the public domain.

Shutter Sound is Japan country requirement, all Japan phone cannot mute the shutter sound.

Sell it is the only option as you may need to wait an age for iOS 10 jailbreak appear.

There is no Japan rom version or japan .ipsw file.
All firmware files are the same for all countries. Apple has those iphones serial numbers flagged in their system such as Japan, and other middle eastern countries that have special requirements and as soon as an iPhone from those regions is restored and activated those profiles are synced and enabled to those devices.

Thanks for the clear answer.

Just theoretical wondering, wouldn't it make more sense to link he shutter sound to the SIM, or the the cell you are logged into? Otherwise you could simply import a phone from abroad.

Maybe I get a bit off topic now, how about cameras in Japan? Do they have a shutter sound that can't be muted?

Many customers feel the addition of fake noises is distracting. Personally I disliked the fake and silly camera noises from Japanese cameras already. Photography returns best results often if the subject is not distracted by beeps and other noises either. At least in people photography, less noise is a feature.

Yes, that would make more sense.
Say if you sold the phone or took it and used it in Europe.
It should import and apply that regions mandatory profile by sim access.
Not really sure how it goes with regular digital camera's there.
