You never thought something larger would be harder to fall out because it fills the pocket more? Mine hasn't fallen out but my pockets are pretty deep(UA shorts). But lately I've been leaving the phone in my locker and have Jay bird blue bud x that work throughout the whole gym.

The item in question is too big for his medium to small sized shorts with small pockets. A bigger phone isn't going to fill out a small pocket more. I could see if we were talking jeans or something else, but not the way gym short pockets are made.

My comment was mostly sarcasm in regards to first world problems. I'm more interested in learning how big your gym is where bluetooth headphones work all the way from the lockerroom. Must be small?

I'm trying to think what sort of industry the OP works in that he must have his phone on his person at the gym? Doctor on call out maybe? Fireman, police?

iPod is enough for the gym if you want to listen to music. There's also the creep factor. You don't know if someone with a phone is going to be taking pics on it. Best keep the phone in the bag, and if you're on callout use a pager.

Gyms are for working out, not checking TMZ.

I like to carry my iPhone 5S to the gym. Actually I have taken every single iPhone I've owned to the gym without a problem. I love it because I can stream music while I input my workout notes/weights on my 5x5 app or answer a text in case of an emergency.
Right now I have a iPhone 6 Plus but I haven't taken it to the gym yet. I'm awaiting to buy Jaybird Bluetooth headphones with foam tips so I don't have to carry my iPhone next to me. I was thinking of putting it on my Flipbelt but I can actually "feel" it when I tested it at home (went up some stairs to see if it would bother me when I do stairs at the gym).
It's going to be a bit hard for me to find a comfortable way of carrying it to the gym.
I probably need a small gym bag to carry it around the gym with my iPhone inside that has a easy to get in pocket that can store an iPhone 6 Plus.

Maybe you don't Work out or you would know how a phone falls when you laid on the bench or grabs the edge of the pocket so it won't slide out. When it's hanging in a pocket on a bench(especially decline) the corner of your phone can hold the phone in against the pocket. I haven't had a problem with any of my phones falling out. Only happens a few times with my old 5 and 4. So yes a larger phone will fill any pocket more than a smaller phone... Unless the phones are the same size...
It's 24hr fitness. They have lockers in the front of the place that are open to the rest of the gym. It does cut out if I go into the locker room but in the main area which is pretty big it seems to do just fine. Think of an open warehouse. Only tried this 3 times so far but it works just fine.

It's a thin, slippy, heavy device...what do you expect to happen? Get a armband or a case, or better yet, leave the phone out of the gym altogether and buy a old used/refurbished iPod shuffle or something.

In all seriousness though, I have the same problem, but for the life of me have no idea why:

I have Jaybirds. They're rubbish. Don't believe all the reviews online, must be written by shills.

They drop signal super easy with any obstacle. And outdoors is even worse.

FWIW that's with the iPhone 4, haven't tested them with the 6+ to be fair as I stopped using them for sport, except with the iMac when on the spin bike. Not sure if the 6+ has a stronger BT connection.

I had to chuckle after reading that response. If I ask a question about your gym and how your bluetooth headphones work away from your phone, one could come to a logical conclusion why I'm curious about that information. But then again, this is Macrumors where 2 + 2 = 5.

I don't take my phone to the gym, its a distraction and it weighs my shorts down. I have an old beater iPod Nano 16gb that I use. I don't feel bad when that little thing falls onto the floor or gets all sweaty

the problem isn't the case , its just the fact that it just keeps falling out lol , like Its fell out of my shorts a good 10 times in one workout session (not cardio)

The issue is the slipperiness of the phone. It slides very easily against your pocket. A case can actually help a lot creating more friction between your pockets and the phone case.

I've had my phone slip out of my pockets a few times with a case, but it's happened far more times when I haven't had a case on my iPhones.

Get a cheap rubbery silicone case. Put it on while you work out. This is what I do for running.

Search ebay and Amazon for silicone iphone 6 case. And you'll find a bunch for really cheap.

I have a 6+ and took it to the gym yesterday. Did chest and triceps and never slipped out of my Nike Basketball shorts once. I even ran about 2 mi on the treadmill without it coming out. Running with it though I'm not convinced it's stable enough so I'm picking up a Flipbelt today after work. Will update it once I try it out but heard nothing but good things with the Flipbelt. It'll be good for my 1/2 marathon coming up in November.

No issues here with my 6+. Either get a case for it or some type of screen/body protection for your phone. That's what I'm currently using, adds grip while holding and while my gym shorts are holding :)

The bigger issue, I think, is that you are considering moving to a 16gb device from a 64gb device. My gut says you are looking to not spend any extra money with the swap but if I were in your shoes I would skip the gym one month and use those funds to pay for the extra 48gb of storage (IF you go to a plus).

Same thing was happening to me. I went ahead and bought a pair of LG bluetooth headphones today. Work like a charm. I kept my phone in my gym bag throughout the workout. Kinda sucked that I had to dig it out to respond to texts, but was SO nice to not have it in my pocket for the first time in years. Give bluetooth headphones a try.

That's a great idea. Haven't thought of that.
