It would affect those of us that would rather pay with cash or a debit card.

Exactly my point. Apple tried this years ago, and it limited scalping, but pissed off legitimate buyers. So now they do nothing to limit scalping, and it pisses off legitimate buyers.

Point is, someone will always complain

How the cops were treating them is despicable, but what I would expect. Truly awful. "Have you people ever heard of soap." I hope he gets fired. And the cop needed to rough up that lady cuffing her? What could she possibly have done to be arrested? Makes me sick.

The cops were there to protect everyone's rights and uphold the law. Its against the law to sleep on the sidewalk. I did not see the officer "rough" up anyone. She resisted and he did what was necessary to cuff her.

All the "this is capitalism" idiots in here will be embarrassed in six months when there's a Dateline story on human trafficking for iPhone launch day. I mean seriously. Watch the video. These people look miserable. They are clearly in this position for some reason. They need the $100. They are promised voyage to America for their loved ones or something. I mean I know that sounds crazy but it's not just a simple volunteer operation. I think that's clear. 75 year old ladies don't volunteer to sleep on a NYC street for three days.

So in light of that, yes, I have a real problem with this. At the same time I'm not sure how you stop it. If it were me I wouldn't accept cash but you can't do that plus they could buy gift cards with cash.

people thought i was crazy in a thread i made yesterday saying this, but its true

Have you been to a black Friday sale event? Have you seen what people do there? I don't see people getting arrested for sleeping/camping out in any years. You would resist arrest if you felt wrongfully detain buddy

Thank you. Because when I saw this video this is what I saw. I didn't see greed. I saw desperation. Out there with babies. Sleeping in trash bags. Those were desperate folks. They were being exploited by someone higher up the food chain.

I disagree with the first part. Apple and the Carriers are selling the phones to--who they assume to be--their customers. The scalpers are depriving millions of people from getting the phones they want. From what I have seen at the iPhone 6 and 5S launch, i think it is a really big issue.

I like the second idea about an Apple ID lock but the scalpers will just create fake IDs that they know the password for.

for the Apple ID lock, what I meant was that you couldn't use any new ID for anything on the phone including things like icloud and itunes. i.e. Scalpers' customers wouldn't be able to enjoy any apps/music they purchased previously for 30 days. Most of those people getting a new iPhone are owners of old iPhone devices. The phone is pretty much useless unless you wanna start purchasing things again with the new account. I think this will discourage people from buying from scalpers. Therefore, much less market for scalpers, more iphone for legitimate users like us.

Edit: I just realized that it probably wouldn't work due to the fact that iOS now has family sharing. Those people can just use it to get access to previously purchased content.

If you can't get in line before them, that's on you. It's just a damn phone. Same things happens at concerts and sporting events. It's just the way it is.

I imagine if she were your mother, sister, wife, friend, you'd view it differently. I notice you said nothing of the cop's soap comment.

Those people are guilt of nothing, but not being American. Most of you are providing evidence for why most of the world doesn't like Americans.

Agreed. Let me ask this question.

If the people in line were 'American' and were found to be sleeping on the sidewalk (which--I'm sure--goes on in EVERY line that exists for 2-3 days in EVERY city--after all people need to sleep don't they?) would there have been such hoopla? Would the police have made such a big deal out of this? Or would they have simply continued their patrols and leave 'Americans' alone, so long as order was maintained?

Furthermore, if these people looked 'American', would he have had the BALLS to be so outright disrespectful enough to say 'have you heard of soap, you guys stink?

What about if instead of Asians, the line was full of African Americans? Would he dare utter those offensive words?

I agree at first watching this inflammatory video makes you react negatively towards Asians. But we must tread lightly, and not overreact. It's a slippery slope.

Makes you wonder how many preorders went to Asian scalpels. I got one for my wife (gold 6+) and after seeing how much they go for we were tempted. But in the end she kept it. She loves it so far.
I was going to stand in line but when I got there at 10PM there were already 60 Asians waiting in line. So I knew I wouldn't get 6+ and I left. Apple lost my money. I will wait for next iPhone or maybe even Android if something nice comes along.

This is ridiculous. So if you can't have the phone on the first day of release you won't buy that model at all or even change platforms? You realize it's going to be sold all year right?

Why not come back in 2 or 3 weeks and get the exact one you want with absolutely no line?

Do you also boycott movies if you can't get into the premiere?
