Don't get too excited about 128GB. Remember, this is Kuo. We can't laugh at his predictions and then get excited about them when it's something we want. The guy is inaccurate across the board, so his guesses are all pulled out of his ass.

Huh? His predictions are accurate more often than not. He might get the odd detail wrong (often about pricing or release date, things he isn't likely to know about as that information stays in Cupertino.)

Can anyone imagine a usecase for a programmable power button? I have no idea in what cases this could be useful.

The volume buttons already double as a camera shutter release. It makes sense to allow a secondary function for something as seldom used as the power button. As one example, it would be a nice way to trigger the voice recorder. It could even serve as an alternate "back" navigation button so you don't have to stretch your thumb all the way to the top left of the screen.

yes I am sure that Apple invested millions in GT advanced only to cancel plans at the last minute because, you know, they forgot to drop test the screens before they planted the money into sapphire production

crap products by apple

Apple creates faulty products nowadays. 2011 MBP has a gpu fault for thousands and apple dont even bother about it. shame! who buys overpriced products with defects?

I still find it hard to believe that Apple will announce both models at the same time only to make one available at launch and then wait weeks/months to release the other. I wonder how many people would hold off and wait for the 5.5" instead. I know I would be one of those.

I thought that is exactly what happened with the iPhone 4 in 2010.

Black & White introduced. White came out months later.

I use the power button very, very often.

PS: how does anyone here who intends on purchasing a 128GB phone justify such a high-priced device?

Assuming the unlocked price for the 4.7" iPhone 6 (16GB) is $649 (already expensive), we'd be looking at 32/64/128 -> 749/849/949, and *assuming* the 5.5" is $100 more per increment, that's $1049 for the highest storage option.

I mean, I love my iPhone... use it every day and so on... but man, I personally can't imagine spending near $1000 for such a small device with such a fast turnover. Are people that careless with storage that they're willing to jump up $300 to store more stuff? There's so many cloud options nowadays too.

Then again, I don't have my parent's money or inheritance to fall back on.

I am hoping that the 16gb version will go away and the introductory memory will be 32gb.

Honestly, I not sure how they can even justify the cost of the adding memory with those increments.

extra $100 for 16gb - total 32gb cost 100/16gb
extra $200 for 32gb - total 64gb cost 50/16gb
extra $300 for 64gb - total 128gb cost 37.5/16gb

Memory is cheap and the first $100 for only an extra 16gb seems a little steep IMO.

The article mentions that the iPhone 6 may not have a sapphire LENS covering the camera. Because of the protruding camera lens.

But the title says "May Lose Sapphire DISPLAY Cover".

There is a difference between a lens cover and a display cover. A huge difference. Please correct this.

128 Gigs, finally!! Let's hope 32 Gigs is the new entry model.
Don't count on it, not with the new iCloud Photo storing full res in cloud, and device res on device, optimizing storage.

And new iCloud drive options to store even more in iCloud and Apple wanting the subscription fees for cloud storage services.

I frankly don't care all that much about the sapphire displays. Glass is very strong and scratch proof already. You always end up with only extremely minor surface scratches that you can only see with light at a certain precise angle and when you're really looking for it. Truly visible scratches are super rare.

The problem with iPhones since the iPhone 5 is the insanely scratch prone aluminum they use. That is the real problem, not the display. You have to be super careful or you end up with majorly banged up sides. It seems that they dropped the pretty but fragile chamfered edges. Good! Replacing them with curved glass + curved metal will really limit the amount of scratches.

How can they release two brand new iPhones and have them ship 5-10 weeks apart?

Launch stats are going to suck. All the fanboys like myself that want the 5.5" aren't going to make up the launch weekend numbers like we normally would.

The camera cover will have it. The main display glass will not. Not to hard to understand....

Actually if you read the article I believe it's referring to the removal of the sapphire CAMERA LENS cover.

It's a bit more clear at 9to5mac:

The camera lens will, he predicts, lose its sapphire coating after failing drop tests. Although sapphire is much more scratch-resistant than glass, it is more prone to shattering, and the protruding lens would make it significantly more vulnerable than on present models. There is no information in this report on whether the screen will be sapphire, though countless previous reports indicate that at least some of the iPhone 6 displays will be sapphire.

I guess iPad can wait for an october event, maybe with some other stuff like revamped Mac Mini, new Apple TV...
There is no rush for a new iPad in my opinion, and they never announce too many products on the same day. Is better for them to launch the new iPhone, maybe give people a peek at the iWatch and stop there.
A month later, when the iPhone already hit the shelves, they can start promoting the new iPad

Maybe the iWatch is getting pushed back to another event and they'll use an iPad release to fill in the hole. The iPad 4 was announced at an iPhone event.

Spoiler Alert: The sapphire being manufactured at the Mesa, AZ plant was never intended for iPhone screens. Rather, it is for iWatch faces.

This has been extremely obvious all along.

That's why it's going to jump 16-64-128
extra 100 for 48gb - total 64gb
extra 200 for 112gb - total 128gb
