Love my iPhone 6, but during the last months, more so after Apple Watch, the battery has not been holding up that well (even after restore) and it heats up with average use, so I was considering upgrading to a 6s or 6s Plus.
Then yesterday it fell on stone floor while walking the dog and screen cracked. First time with any iPhone i have had such a drop :-( I look after them like babies!

Anyway... Good timing? Now I don't know if to fix the screen or upgrade. I have always skipped the "s" versions, so not sure if it's worth spending more this time around. What do you think?

Fixing the screen will be cheaper than a brand new phone. Again, having the latest is the greatest. If the money doesn't hurt you, get the new 6S. Especially if you live in a country where launch and actual availability match.

Yeah it is pretty slow.

The iPhone 6 is not "slow".

The 5s wasn't slow either, but "slow "is an iPhone 4 on iOS 8. The 6 is a very fast and fluid device. However my Air 2 remains my optimal iOS experience and that's down to the bonded glass and the responsiveness it creates.

I have the 6 plus and will definitely be preordering the 6s plus. After having an 8mp camera and 1gb ram for 3 years in a row, a 12mp camera and 2gb ram is a HUGE deal!. It might look like the 6 plus but it's the 6 plus on steroids. Imo, this is the biggest significant jump in years!.

Although I am on AT&T Next 12 and am eligible to upgrade to the 6s/6s+, I am seriously considering keeping my 6 for another year, which will make it the longest period of time I've taken between upgrades since getting my first smartphone back in 2008. My reasoning for this is not wanting to start a new Next agreement, paying off what I currently owe ($300) and taking a few months of lower bill payments prior to the release of the iP7(?).

In fact, I'm considering buying my next iPhone outright, financing some of the purchase price through the sale of my existing iP6 and avoiding installments altogether.

Sure, I want a shiny new phone - I used to upgrade every year or so when I was on Android (going back to Android is out of the question). However, I don't really feel that it's necessary to do that with the iPhone; my iP6 is functioning perfectly and is arguably the best smartphone I've ever owned.
