My nephew's iPhone 6 Plus is doing something weird

When you make a phone call from his phone, the person on the other side can't hear you whatsoever.

I did FaceTime Video with the phone, confirmed front mic was fine, so I figured the bottom mic was broken

Thing is, I then did FaceTime Audio and that works perfectly fine (which uses the bottom mic)

so both microphones work? So what's going on here? Why doesn't the mic work via phonecall, but works via FaceTime Audio?

And I did confirm that FaceTime Audio uses the bottom mic (blew into it specifically, heard the blowing on the other side)

Any ideas?
