Confirmed. Just got back from Apple Store in Australia. 6 Plus sold out 1 hour before opening. And only 1000 in the queue ahead of me. At least the manager told us in person.

(if you can believe such things) I heard they only had 50 6 Plus units for the store for the day. And only 30 gold phones across all models. Someone from the Vodafone store told us they had 20 phones total, one of each model.

Confirms my suspicion the Plus isn't really available yet. Will be in a month's time, and Cook didn't have the honesty to tell everyone. Spoil the vibe. Look at all the flack they caught last year for telling the truth.

If you were wondering why all the pundits have been following the script - talking up the 6 over the 6 Plus, when it's clear the Plus was going to be the big seller, just like the S last year, there will be better margins in the cheaper phone, and this is Apple's way of boosting 6 sales - delaying availability of the Plus to see how many will get caught up in the vibe and buy a 6 instead.

Why not just release both models in October? It's the marketer's trick of the 2 models. Use the Plus as bait, then switch.
It's all down to $ in the end.

Fans are excitable, but not stupid. And this is arrant disrespect for customers, from both Apple and their mouth-pieces.

Don't bother queuing unless you want the chump model.

Apple really was damned if they do damned if they don't in this case. We've been reading about production issues for months now, so they could have announced it would be released on a different date..... but they have a precious few they can put out for sale, in addition to building the hype for it. I can't say I blame them, but at the same time they better expect lots of people to be pissed and hope it doesn't back fire.

Major Apple store, Gold Coast Australia, approx. 60-80 pluses (all sold to approx. first 40 customers) - by about 150th in line (was 2 people away from registering with an Apple rep, approx 8:20am) all 128GB / 64GB 6's in silver sold out, overheard Apple rep say only Gold 16GB left. There was about 600 people in line.

And fix your damn website Apple - trashy! http://store.apple.com/au/buy-iphone/iphone6

Apple was completely unprepared for this launch, now NO ONE is going to get any 6+ on launch day and will be backordered until next year. FACT and FAIL.

The exact same thing happened with the 5S launch last year. Gold was in very short supply and my local Apple Store had days where there were no 5S of any kind in stock.

6 Plus order

Guess that would explain AT&T's email saying that they still expect to ship my phone between 11/09/14-11/27/14 the struggle is real

Doesn't this simply fall under no ***** Sherlock, of course they are nearly impossible to find. Of the 500,000+ made per day only 140,000 are 6 Plus's and of that how many are 64GB or 128GB so its going to be ugly through the holiday's.

Orrrrr because they know that if they push back release dates, it is bad publicity? They get attention no matter what they do - release one now and another later, release both now, push them both back. Either way they have unhappy customers. People were complaining back when it was rumoured that the Plus WOULD be delayed.

Also, 'chump' model, really?

You missed my point, I said produce them 2 months before announcing so there's enough of them for launch day.

You missed my point. What is the advantage of that for the customer? For me, personally, it would mean that I would have my phone two months later instead of tomorrow. How do I benefit from that? How does anyone benefit from that?

And how does the company benefit from starting to sell two months later? Samsung releases the Note 4 in early October. Would it be a smart move by Apple to wait until November to start selling their new product?

Of course, what they could have done is that they somehow magically finish the design two months earlier, so that they could have started the production two months earlier. :) Anyone who works in product-related R&D will be able to tell you why cutting two months put of a development cycle is not all that easy.

People that wait long lines for a freaking phone do deserve to wait in a long line...

As my girlfriend, may she rest in peace, said "there is nothing worth waiting in line for." I did the waiting in line thing once for the iPhone 3GS. After that experience I started using the preorder method.

Because you wouldn't even know you had been waiting longer... Lmao

He wouldn't happen to be in the Central Valley or Bay Area in northern Cali would he? :)

It wouldn't make sense for Apple to have only a few units in any SF store.

SF is home to LOT's of iOS developers...If they want good sales they would stock up.

I ordered the phone and went to the store finally and once I held the store demo, it was waaayyyy tooo big for me and my wife for whom I ordered it.

So ended up returning it on the spot :)

So someone got lucky today!

Uh yea no. Some stores did have stock but not alot. The verizon store here had three ( 1 16gb and 2 64 gb) and I got one this morning after being 6th in line at 5:30 am.

I was first in line at one of the local corporate-owned Verizon store at 11:45 PM last night. When they let us in at 7:45 AM I bought 3 iPhone 6 Plus models, one in each color. The had at least 15 in store that 8 - 10 people got...
