I still can't get over tis idea of keeping this design for larger models?

As screens have grown into epic proportions, with 5.0 becoming the standard. Manufacturers are having to clear their phones from excess space wasters such as large buttons to allow maximum screen estate.

Yet apple continue to use this out of date design and then use a smaller screen?

They should have either placed the clunky button on another part of the shell such as the rear or the side and reduced the top bezel instead of sacrificing screen size.

What is most ridiculous is the footprint of the phone can remain larger than it needs to be while attention is then paid to how thin the phone is? Is there something about skinny fit jeans at the apple campus we don't know about? Where pockets are very large and wearers dont mind a poke over from their pockets, but are worn by middle aged workers who wear their pants so tight that they cannot possibly squeeze a phone in their pocket that is a millimetre thicker?

I don't understand how footprint is more important than a usable home button. The home button on the side or back is the worst idea ever. You forget that the phone has to work for everyone, not just tech geeks.

I can see the larger iPhone 6 being launched in October, but both? along with new iPads, Yosemite and (the best part) ... Macs.

That's a lot to release in one quarter (I'm glad some of the macs got minor updates this quarter.)

Shrugs...wait and see.

You don't have to buy one. Button on the back? Nice post Android boy.

He is obviously a Samsuck fan.

The article says in the October event we will see "new Macs" - do you guys think there is a chance for refreshed (broadwell) MacBooks by then? Or did macrumors mean a new iMac? I'm in the market for my very first macbook but I can wait a few months if there's a more substantial update than what we got this week.

Someone posted to Apple Insider the number of days between iPhone announcement and release date. Apple is now down around 9 days between announcement and release. I don't see that changing now. I can see an Apple wearable launch being an "immense" day for Apple retail as people are more likely to buy a wearable device in store (where they can try it on) than online.

"newcode"
Because I'm a nerd, here's the number of days from Apple announcing each iPhone to its release date (in the US, at least):

171 - iPhone
32 - iPhone 3G
12 - iPhone 3GS
17 - iPhone 4
10 - iPhone 4S
9 - iPhone 5
11 - iPhone 5S

Obviously that doesn't prove anything, it could easily change any time, but I still doubt they'd jump back up to about 30 days between announcement and launch.

Perhaps it's me, but it just seems silly to have your company look basically dead all year and have everything of any interest announced in one hit, when other companies LOOK like they are bringing new and exciting things out at many times during they year.

Even if it was a 6 month gap, Spring and Autumn.

In perfect time for the holiday shopping season though--and that's where the REAL money is.

With your design insights, you'd make a great addition to the Samsung team.

Look at Apple's financials and customer sat ratings compared to others and tell me they're silly.

Launching on a Tuesday? That's so random. Also, since it is the biggest pipeline since the last 20 years apparently won't it be too crowded to announce updates to software and hardware?

Translation: "I don't understand Apple's rationale for the timing of their product launches therefore they must be 'random.'"

Apple needs sales in Sept with everyone holding back for new product releases starting in September, there is absolutely no way they would let Sept and the Qtr close without some new product to boost the Qtr sales numbers. As others have said this once a year new product release cycle is getting lame. Not only does it promote hesitance with investors but it puts a huge burden on the supply chain as everything is ramped and must fall in line within a two month release window, just the headache every manufacturer wants 6 new products released in a 6 wk window. With training, new Mfg processes, yield problems, etc oh happy day just what they wanted.

Maybe this leak is a way for Apple to increase their share buy back by causing a stock retreat to afford them a favorable repurchase price. It sure did take a nosedive after this story broke, down over 2% after making a 52 week high earlier in the week and nearly breaking the all time high of $100 set in Sept 2012.

At last, some common sense and level headed, joined up thinking.

I thought that too when Apple changed it's major product launches from scattered across the calendar to fall. But then it kept breaking sales records, and Q1 earnings are the most important quarter so I came around to see, that while it makes for a more boring years for tech fiends its the smart money for Apple.

Other companies bring out stuff though out the year but their earnings pale in comparison to Apple's.

If it's announced on the 16th of September, it'll be on sale the next Friday, the 26th of September.
Launching every new/updated product in the same few months is getting ridiculous now. Maybe in a few years they'll have 1 day where every single product goes on sale? ;-)

After a whole year of nothing, that's just setting all the retail and support folks up to fail spectacularly. That's why Adam Smith have us eleven other months to sell stuff in.

I have a hard time believing it'll release on a Tuesday. It's typically Friday isn't it? You have to keep it on a Friday! Then you have all weekend to setup and play with your new toy and a good reason to take a 3 day weekend. ;)

on my birthday? that would be a really nice birthday to me! but i don't believe it'll be released in september, granted the 4S was released in October...

Another "stating the obvious" quote story. Anyone who even slightly follows Apple knows that all the announcements will be made in the sept/oct timeframe. They have been teasing new products and "categories" for 7 months now with no announcements. And for the past 2 years Apple crams everything into the fall to have their usual RECORD BREAKING quarterly results.

How very insightful.

It's LOOOONGGGG overdue

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure they released an iPhone less than a year ago and they continue to release a new one annually. Long overdue? Not sure that means what you think it means.

I assumed a September announcement and October purchase month. Who knows and who cares. The only constant is a new iPhone each year.

"Apple launching the iPhone 6 on a Tuesday would be a change from past years, as the company has launched previous iPhones and most new hardware on a Friday. However, the source claims that high customer demand and an ample supply due to a large production effort will motivate Apple to start iPhone 6 sales earlier in the week."

Really? Apple is changing from a friday to a tuesday because of ample supply? why not just release it the friday before the tuesday, would 5 days of production make a single bit of difference on release day? NOPE. No merit to their claim, more speculation of a crazy person. More proof current generations aren't getting smarter, they are getting stupider.
