Oh FFS, really? A bigger display doesn't mean you can do more. You have more real estate but it doesn't somehow mean you have the ability to do more in terms of tasks on an iPhone.

 How does anyone know anything that is going to happen with the iPhone?

These people and their need to hold 5+ inches in hands is silly. Apple will produce whatever they produce but frankly, I wonder who has actually tried to pocket a 5.5" phone. I've done it with a 4.7" and it is not comfortable. I can't imagine what it will be like for those skinny little dork hipsters and their little sister's jeans.

I pocketed a 5.5" Note 3 and it was no problem! All you do is place in you back jean pocket or if you wearing a jacket like a suit or sports; inside pocket! I don't know where you pocket your phone but most people do it either in their jacket or back pocket of their pants. Ladies carry it around in their hand.

Why not make them suffer!

First and foremost majority in this forum don't like bigger screen. We tend to make fun of the oversized Android phones. Apple don't even like this, they felt like they were forced to make a gigantic phone. In my opinion 4.7 still acceptable but I prefer 4" for now who knows that might change. One thing for sure I will never ever get that 5.5. I don't like the size and I'm a small person so I don't wanna look funny the way I look other people with a huge phone especially if the person is smaller the me. My point is, Apple don't like, people that are loyal to Apple and didn't jump into another wagon "NEVER LIKE IT". I won't blame Apple if they ended up making one media and some stupid called analyst are noisy and annoying. With that in mind why put sapphire on 5.5 let them suffer they got the size they wanted and charge them premium. They'll be happy because they only need a larger screen. Apple should reward those who stands with their side. Just sayin'!

Twice as much sapphire/production time as one might think?

The other day Apple had plenty of sapphire in production and now they don't. Analysts don't know. We'll know when we actually know.

http://www.patentlyapple.com/patent...ils-of-their-future-sapphire-cover-glass.html

A number of apple patents refers to a sandwich of Alumina Glass (sapphire) and glass with other various coatings/layers. So that could possibly be two sapphire layers cut per phone. Granted they are very thin.

Takes 24 days to make 1 x 200Kg boule x number of furnaces for Apple? How much wastage? Cutting time?

I'd prefer sapphire and HD audio. Gotta have at least one of those to make 'me' happy this time around.

According to other rumours there is plenty of capacity.

Get used to big :)

It could be likely in the future that finding a 4" phone will become impossible. So buy them up now. Apple is making larger phones and the Apple 4 will soon be discontinued. Even the 5C might be discontinued.

Phone content (movies/pictures/dual-task display/html) require higher and higher resolution that only a larger display can bring. To me, a 4" screen 2 or 3 feet away being used as a GSP is eye straining and un-appealing. You are right, 4.7" is larger than my current Galaxy Nexus (4.5") so, you're already up at your average cell-phone size.

Are there any that prefer tiny iphones yet play piano? lol
I am still pondering if I like the larger 5"+ or not.

low power operation

What is a display in standby mode doing? I mean what is drawing power, do they keep the light panels warm so they are instantly on? I know nothing about screens so hopefully someone can shed some light on it for me.

OLED or LCD if the panel is off it doesn't mean the phone or watch is not using power. Some things still require power... such as the maintenance of a real-time clock on a processor, capacitive touch sensing still requires power if you expect to touch the display and have it wake, monitoring sensors still requires power... messages over Bluetooth requires power. The ARM may duty-cycle itself to save energy and be interrupted when Bluetooth comms are available. There are lots of ways to conserve energy. The majority of power used is when a device is awake. So an iWatch awake for 1 minute, maybe takes as much power as an iWatch in idle mode for 20 minutes. Need a way to reduce consumption when the device is awake.
"light panels" aren't kept warm... but if they have a processor that communicates then even in idle it requires power to keep a communication channel open. Who knows. Gotta see a schematic and code ;-)

We'll see what Apple decides to do. If they put Sapphire on the 5.5" phone, you'll know they really don't like you all that much.
But you could use your own logic. Since you prefer the smaller phone, you'll be getting the phone you like, and you'll be happy because you only need a smaller screen.

Apple isn't making larger phones just to jump on some bandwagon. They are doing it because the way people put their phones to use has changed since 2007, and larger screens are better for the way people use phones now. Apple could continue to cater to those who are stuck in a 2007 mindset, but when has Apple ever succeeded by saying "the old way was better"? The more you complain about how these newfangled gadgets are just going to ruin everything, the more the kids (you used to be one of them, remember?) are going to see you as a fuddy-duddy who'd really prefer just a land line.

So it's basically the same as last year. New iPhones in Sept and new iPads in Oct which means we will have gone an entire year with no new products yet again. What happened to Cook's promise to deliver new products "throughout 2014"? The guys a blatant liar who will say any old BS to keep the stock price up. Not happy. Still waiting for Retina MBA, 128GB iPod touch, new iMacs, new Mac Mini.

I have to agree.

----------

What would be innovative and amazing is e-ink color display that looks as good as current LCD displays so always on always readable... and then add tritium backlighting. lol. You saw it here first.

No sense, Only I heared logical, is the 5.5" actually isnt an iPhone is the iPod version of the iPhone 6, with gorila glass and same resolution than the 4.7", the 4.7 will be the only next iPhone 6. as the current 5s will move to plastic as 5cs

Making all this small stuff, of course somewhere down the line their gonna be problems...

What did you expect ....?? LG just pretends this didn't happen ?

The more advanced technology, the more problems...

that's my reaction, and i'm sticking to it :p

You guys at MacRumors keep on showing this lovely render of the iPhone 6

iphone6.jpg

, but all the stories point to a different phone with ugly antenna breaks.

iphone-6-ipod-touch-comparison-007.jpg

If MacRumors keeps on posting the first picture when all the evidence points to the second one with the antenna breaks.....

Well....

I want to know why, do you guys know something you're not sharing ?

what if the 5.5" phone lost the home button and has it integrated on screen now. Smaller bezels just to get people to try to newer design while the 4.7 keeps the home screen for another year? The 5.5 needs to be smaller or i don't think it will sell as much comparing it other phones that big being the largest all around.

Because it's the mock up they commissioned?

I realize there are other things that will require power but that is not what I'm talking about. The article states:

One of Apple goals with the iWatch is for the smartwatch's display to draw almost no power when in standby

So I'm specifically talking about a display in standby mode. What is drawing power on a display in standby mode. NOT the entire unit of the watch.
