Shipping in the bulk they do would give them high discounts - not sure about the US but next day delivery is very common in the UK. Also these will all be distributed around the country so they won't travel much.
So I found out how to track by reference, and nothing came up on either UPS or Fedex; is this a problem???
Nothing showed up for me until I used the phone number associated with my Apple account rather than my mobile number for the iPhone 6.
Nope. Mine didn't come up that way either. But it does show in my UPS My Choice account. Do you have one of those you can check?
Check your phone number under your Apple or Carrier's account. It is on the order details. In this case it was my home phone, rather than my cell #.
Also do not forget to pop in the destination country and zip code. I do show my tracking code, but no shipping information as its still preparing.

I spoke with an Apple Customer Service Rep early today because I was concerned about my pre-auth falling off when I checked my bank account.
She said that they were waiting longer to ship the phones this year because in years past some people had played the system and used connections at UPS/FEDEX to get their phones early. That phones were being stationed all over the country and that I likely wouldn't see my phone switch over to shipped status until tomorrow because the phones were being shipped Next Day Air.
Indeed, when I go to my UPS My Choice account it shows a delivery from Apple coming to me Friday via Next Day Air.

Overnight shipping for anything is very expensive here. That being said, this is coming from a single consumer. I'm not a large company like Apple lol.
The longer it's in transit the more chance there is for theft, etc. Plus there's a pretty big time difference between China & North America.
I have a theory, I believe that Apple shipped a lot of phones from China to the US before the preorders. So the reason why I and many (I have the 6+) have not had anything updates (reference shipping via UPS or added the phone to your profile) is because it's already sitting in the US and Apple doesn't feel the need to rush since they already know that they have enough. I'm assuming that this was for the first few thousand/hundred thousand that preordered maybe.

Keep telling yourself that, you are in the denial phase and when Sep 19 comes and goes and you have no iphone, you will go to the anger phase, then depression phase, then acceptance phase, all within 5 minutes.
Yeah, it's status has been "preparing for shipment" for a few days now. I found my ups tracking number, and it says it's in Pennsylvania. It also says it's being shipped by next day air saver, so it will probably be shipped tomorrow.
I think he's right, but if I don't get my phone, you're not too far off the mark. It would take me 2 minutes tops to go through all those phases.
How do you find your tracking? enter the order number minus the last 2 digits? That didn't work for me.
Try your phone number as the reference number.
Anyway in many locations, iPhones 6 and 6+ will ship from a warehouse within the same state as next day air delivery.
