I'm going through a similar situation with fedex. I just received my replacement iPhone a few days ago as the one I received was defective. The replacement came in white box which was also to be used to send back the defective phone. I dropped off the box at an authorized fedex office on Tuesday morning, which was delivered Wednesday morning. A few hours ago I get this email from apple saying that they received the box but it was empty. I had to call the 800 number and they asked me a few questions. I was on the phone with them for more than an hr. mostly on hold. They opened up an investigation with fedex, was told they'd contact me in a few days to let me know the outcome. This whole ordeal is a huge headache and I hope they catch whoever stole it.

I did gather my facts. I was told by the local FedEx hub that either the driver, or someone the driver knew stole the packages. If the driver allowed someone else to take it, he is responsible as well.

You claim to have gathered facts but are still ignorant to the advice you were already given. You're still assuming that the driver specifically stole your phone when there are many other reasonable possibilities.

I'm 100% certain Fedex will take care of you as it obviously their own negligence. Please don't take this the wrong way but I think you may have been mistaken on what was said to you over the phone. Here's why. All inbound calls to customer service are monitored for quality control. No employee speaking with a customer will keep their job 5 minutes after they insinuate that another employee may have stolen something. They cannot make those types of accusations, theories or conclusions because that's a serious offense they are accusing an employee of doing. They CAN say, "It may have been stolen off the truck, we'll have to investigate that". They can't say that they've checked surveillance tapes and such. That's not something they would share with a customer.

Think of it roughly like this forum. We are not allowed to insult, accuse or antagonize another forum member here or we'll get dinged or banned. And this is just an online forum of discussion. We're talking about an employer such as FedEx. They have to be very careful what they say to a customer over the phone.

Eventually 1+1 =2 lol. A thief will eventually get caught with enough complaints no matter where.

FedEx and UPS routes start at around $50K and climb quick if you stay. Still unlikely for the driver to have taken it.

Looks like the average is 35k. Out of 14 people who reported their salaries no one even reached 50k (seems to TOP OUT at 45k), so the idea that it "starts at 50k" is completely ridiculous. I also could not imagine a Fedex Delivery driver earning more than a University professor, Corporate IT Technician or other jobs that actually DO start at 45-50k. Maybe in the heart of NYC where the cost of living is 100-150% higher than the rest of the US it might be possible.

Climb quickly? To what? 60k? 80k? LOL. You think Fedex Drivers are as hard to find and retain as Nurse Practitioners or other occupations that require education? I don't think so. There is a large supply of people who are 21-64 with clean driving records and the ability to lift 60 lbs along with a high school diploma (if thats even required), there is just no way the logistics companies would pay upper middle class salaries to simple drivers.

Based on the data I showed, I think more than likely they start you off at around 28k ($13.50 an hour) and if you're lucky to be living in a high value/expensive city and you stick around for a while plus put in some overtime you can get up to 45k which is still amazing pay for manual labor.

Anyway, I wouldn't wager one way or another if they took it or not. You would think TSA agents wouldn't risk their jobs either to steal from people but since the TSA was founded, hundreds of agents have been convicted of theft right from the Airport Security line stealing stuff from under people's noses.

It is very much possible the driver could have stolen it and then was going to claim the package was misplaced in the chaos, fell off the truck, or was never given to them. You never know. Oftentimes without direct hard proof the most the company can do is fire them which makes no difference if they were planning on quitting anyway.

I just can't see the FedEx driver stealing an iPhone. No way. All of their delivery inventory and activity is very closely monitored. I've never heard of that. My guess is negligence, resulting in the phone being wrongly delivered and/or lost.

When you dropped the box off at Fed Ex, it should have been weighed. If the box that arrived at Apple weighed less than the box did when you dropped it off, then it should be easy to prove that you did send it and whatever happened, it happened under Fed Ex care. Hope you get it straightened out soon.

UPS drivers make between $70,000 to $100,000 depending on bonus time and how much overtime you want to get. Free insurance for whole family, pension and union backing. Top pay for a UPS driver is $36.21 per hour. Comparing it to FedEx ground/air is comical.

It wouldn't suprise me in the least if the driver took the phone, but find it highly unlikely that the FedEx manager told you that.

That appears to be fedex ground.
Surprised by the salary. I know drivers at ups making 70+

You have to be stupid to steal. A job is a lot more valuable than an iPhone. But who knows.

You are absolutely correct. I work for Ups and your facts are true. FedEx Express drivers are actual Fedex employees and do get paid a decent wage but nothing close to Ups. FedEx ground are sub contracted routes and they get paid not so good.

So weird how people still steal phones when they are easily traced.

When you think about it, when an iPhone is sitting new in its unopened box, unactivated, that's probably the easiest and least-trackable time to steal it. There's no Find my iPhone on it yet, no iCloud Activation lock, and if it's a Verizon or T-Mobile phone, it's most likely unlocked

(If it's AT&T, the third party unlockers are back in business so that isn't too hard to take care of. Though if it's a Sprint iPhone, then the thief is screwed.)

I think Apple should start requiring that iPhones purchased new online be tied to an existing iCloud account at the time of purchase, and a buyer has to set a new account up if they don't have one, during the buying process. This would do two things:

1. Make things a little more complicated for scalpers,
2. Apple could ship a new phone with the iCloud account already associated, and Activation Lock enabled in-box.

This way if the phone is stolen during shipping, it truly is useless.

So I preordered 2 Iphone 6+ phones on the 12th. One came on the 19th, and one was backordered and shipped last week. It was shipped FedEx Ground with a delivery date on 9/30. It didn't come on the 30th but after talking to another local FedEx Express driver, he said the Ground driver was delayed and it would come the next day. After it didn't come on the 1st, I called FedEx. After speaking to several people in their Customer Service Dept and at the local distribution center, they have come to the conclusion that the package was stolen. Talked to them today and they said another package from Verizon was stolen yesterday from the same truck. They are reviewing the security footage and all that stuff.

Called Verizon, got a refund and a new phone ordered but now it is estimated to be delivered 10/31.

So my question is, what, if anything, would you expect from FedEx other than an "I'm sorry" (which I still haven't gotten) from them?

I talked to the local distribution center and asked about getting the new phone paid for as well. They told me they couldn't locally but I could talk to a manager in their customer service department.

What would you do in this situation? I know legally they don't have to do anything else, but because of their employee with sticky fingers, I've got to wait another 4-5 weeks.
LoL really? You expect FedEx to GIVE you something? Wow...... OK.

If the phone was stolen by the delivery driver can you report it stolen to Apple and get it locked? Surely it can be black listed and bricked. I never understand why people steal iPhone's these days as they can be easily disabled, especially if stolen from a person.

I'm just going off of what the person at the local FedEx hub told me. I doubt she would throw a driver under the bus if she didn't think he took it. She said that after the 2nd package went missing off the same truck that was also a Verizon Wireless package, they went back and reviewed security tapes and submitted them to their Security department along with other logs. So she made it sound like she knew he took them and they had evidence of it.
Pretty awesome and atypical for a company to just blurt out all their business to YOU... Guess you just have one of those honest voices and she felt comfortable telling you all the company's dirty laundry.
