I'm really leaning towards switching down in size from the 6 Plus to the 6S. My current biggest gripe with the 6 Plus is not the size but how underpowered it is. Due to Apple giving it the same specs as the 6, it lags and/or stutters quite a bit more than the 6 did when I had it. This isn't just isolated to me either as friends who I convinced to switch from the 6 to the 6 Plus also experience worse performance on this model. It's clear that the larger screen needs a little more power than the smaller one. I want the fastest and smoothest performance available on my iPhone and the 6 Plus isn't it. Landscape mode is barely used by developers other than Apple themselves so it's not a big selling point either. The only real advantage to having the bigger phone seems to be the amazing battery life. Though the 6 does indeed feel much better in hand, the size of the 6 Plus never bothered me to carry around and I can do most things one-handed with it as well.

So if Apple releases the 6S and 6S Plus with identical specs like they did the previous models, then I'll likely move down to the 4.7" despite how much I've been spoiled by the near all day battery life of the 6 Plus.

I'm again on the fence regarding upgrading from my iPhone 6 (which I love) to the iPhone 6s+...which I am looking to because I've always been a bit jealous of the added screen real estate. I am, however still concerned with the added size/weight of the device being hard to carry in the pocket of my business dress pants pocket, in jeans, and it being bulky in general.

My question is this: How many if any of you are planning to downsize from the iPhone 6+ to the iPhone 6s this time around? And, why are you?

I'm open to hear the pros and cons of owning the iPhone 6+ vs. the iPhone 6.

Thanks! :)

Briefly for you
6 Plus
Pros:
+Larger screen to view more things
+Battery life is far superior to the 6
+OIS (Optical Image Stabilization, not a definitve factor but still a feature over the 6. There may be more this year)
+Larger Keyboard

Neautral Comments:
•Slightly thicker, could be seen as good
Or bad in durability/grip vs looks/convieniance
•Fits all my pockets, as any phone should
•Mine has not suffered bendgate but the new model should be even more resistant

Negative comments:
These all happen to be advantages to the 6
-Not that easy to carry for the gym, with limited pocket space and arm bands would be ridiculous (To solve this, try bluetooth headphones to Apple Watch and leave the phone in your bag/locker)
-Will have to pay a bit more
-Shows fingerprints more xD
-Getting a fully protective case for a phablet is not always easy. Unless you are okay with wrapping it in bubble wrap or a tank.

But all in all, pick on screen size preference and what you do in life with regards to activity. No XTR3M3 Parcour with a 6 Plus in your pocket I am afraid, and additional features may be the other factor ie RAM or Force Touch (ALLEGEDLY) Only the keynote will make us certain of that though.

Not using the 6+ but the Note 4. The note 4 is a bit smaller than the 6+. I'll switch to the regular iPhone 6s tho. Honestly the size does matter. I prefer a more portable and lighter phone. However I definitely will miss the big screen. Everything on the big screen is so easy to read.

I am switching to the 6s from the 6+ because for me the plus is much too big to handle comfortably as I am walking down a busy street texting etc. I also don't like the lack of privacy. I haven't heard anyone else mention this but people have told me that they can see everything I am doing on my phone even a from a few feet away. This has made me somewhat paranoid about how I use my phone in public.
I have the 6+ since the launch and I don't find the lack of privacy a concern. What's so secretive you are looking at your phone you don't want others a few feet away to see? If I'm waiting in line, I'll be surfing, reading the news, going on a forum, etc. If I'm on public transportation, I'll be playing games. What's there to hide?

Back on topic, again, I have the 6+ since launch and I wouldn't trade it for a 6, and I'm a small guy. Only small problem I have is I wear skinny jeans and i always have to take out my phone when I sit down.

my hubby is downsizing... he hates the size of the +! he's been complaining for a year about it being too big!

me: no way in heck and i'm going any smaller than the 6+!

I love the 6+. My wife has the 6, and every time I handle it, I find it to be too small. I have small hands, but the 6+ handles fine for me. I'll never go back to a smaller size. I love reading, viewing photos and videos, texting, and everything else so much better on a larger screen. The greater battery life and OIS are bonuses, but the larger screen is the main attraction for me. The phone fits easily in my left front pant pocket, and I often have to check to make sure that it's there: the weight is a non issue for me.

After a 8mp camera and 1gb ram for three years in a row, the 12mp camera and 2gb ram in the 6s is a HUGE upgrade!. It might look like the 6, but it's a 6 on steroids. Definitely getting it!.

I don't exactly play games with my phone but I do use it for work and I work at a job where confidentiality is important. When I am reading sensitive emails at a work function it is a concern for me if someone is able to see what the email is about. The lack of privacy hadn't occurred to me until I was sitting next to someone with a + and found I was able to read her email and text messages clearly.

Glad you enjoy yours, different strokes for different folks.

Unless someone is stalking you or someone who knows who you work for, I don't think the average person sitting next to you will know or even remotely care what confidential email you are reading.

I have "confidential" work emails as well, I'm not going to display it out when reading it. Just have a look out who's beside you, even for safety reasons and you will be fine. Even a smaller phone won't keep the person next to you spying on you if you display it out to the world to see, unless you use a blackberry.

I miss the more comfortable one handed use of the 6, so I'm downsizing as long as the feature difference between the two remains constant.

If, for example, the 6+ comes with iPad-like multitasking, or the plus gets more RAM/ForceTouch and the 6S doesn't, I might have to rethink my decision.

Reading an email quickly or looking at a picture one has been sent is not "displaying" it. I happened to notice that I could see too clearly what's on the the screen of someone with a 6+ and for me I don't like that. You like it, great; other people like it, good too; but I don't.

Its not about spying, when I noticed the screen of the person next to me it was by accident that my eyes were drawn to it and I would prefer not to have anyone's eyes accidentally or intentionally drawn to what I am doing/looking at on my phone. Its both a personal preference and discretion is important for me for work purpose.

That goes for the 6+, samsung note, LG, or any other large screen phone. From this experience I learned its just not for me. My friend and colleague has a 6 which she uses one-handed and has an easier time maneuvering so others can't as easily see what she's doing. I want the same. Lucky for both of us Apple has two sizes so people can pick what's right for them.

I love the size of the 6 Plus. I've considered whether or not I would switch to a smaller size with the next upgrade but I don't think I will.

My biggest complaint is the terrible in-between the Plus is between an iPad and an iPhone, especially with how Apple introduced those landscape views for apps. It's gotten better with iOS 9 but it's still not great.

I'm probably going to down size from the 6 plus to the the 4.7" 6S. I was very excited for a larger iPhone and Apple gave us two with the 6 and 6 Plus. At the time they came out I was also using an iPad mini. I thought the 5.5" screen would allow me to have the best of both worlds. It's definitely bigger but it's still not a tablet.

Another con for me is the inability to keep it in my pants pocket. I got my 6 plus the day it was release and bent it in the first few weeks. I had always kept phones in my front pocket. I wear jeans or shorts to work (casual IT company) and know it was bent from sitting down and/or getting into my Jeep with my phone in my front right pocket. Now I have to remove the phone every time I sit and although I've gotten good at remember to do that it's still hard to change a habit that I've been doing for 12 years. Plus, I don't like having my phone out all the time when I'm having lunch or dinner with family or friends at a restaurant or when I'm out at a bar sitting down.

So the plan as of now is to go to the 4.7" 6S and pick up a refurbished iPad Mini 3 from Apple after the 4 is announced and the price on the 3 drops.

If you are able to easily use the 6 with one hand it might not be worth it to go to the 6S+ but if you have to use both with two hands there's no reason not to go with the +.
This is a really good point. I have small hands for my physical size, and since I'd struggle to use the regular 6/6S with one hand ALL the time, why not go for the Plus?

Before I owned the 6 Plus I said I would never own such a big phone. I would literally say things like "Who needs a phone that big it's ridiculous"

... then I bought a 6 Plus and now I can't see myself owning anything but a phablet from this point forward. Just recently tested out the Note 5 and while the screen was beautiful I am just not ready to get out of the apple ecosystem yet so 6s Plus will be mine this year. Then 7 Plus next year, etc.

Yes, it does lag and stutter a lot. I'm surprised more don't say this but I suppose people don't seem to care as much. More likely, they'll only acknowledge this when the 6S Plus does come out with better performance.

In regard to landscape use, it's not that apps don't use this mode, it's that using this phone in landscape period is hard to do. I don't know about you, but I can't type worth crap in landscape on the Plus. Even playing games on this phone is bit of a strain because it's just not a device that is comfortable to hold or use in landscape.

So most of my use was portrait. But after a few minutes, it causes some hand strain to keep using. I find myself still trying to one hand use it because that's just the way I want to use it. I read books a lot especially at night and after a certain point, I have to call it quits. It's not the weight of the phone, but moreso just keeping your hand stretched out while holding. It causes strain.

Is the screen and real estate worth it then? Not really. The experience of using an app isn't enhanced because of this. If anything, the experience is made worse due to it being uncomfortable.

I went back to the 5S months ago due to the above issue. I'd prefer to say with 4" because that form factor is best IMO. But most likely I'll upgrade to the 6S. Maybe when iphone 7 rolls around, Apple will realize there's many that want a premium 4" version.

And I do get annoyed having to shift it to my back pocket when I need to bend over and tie my shoes or pick something up or pull some weeds in the garden.

That is the only downside to the 6 Plus for me. As I don't wear suits I can't just put it in a jacket pocket. I have to put the phone in my bag and then take it out again when I've tied my shoe lace.

If public use is of much concern, there are mirror screen protectors that effectively require a straight viewing angle to make the screen visible. We all have our opinions but I can't say that I can see an iPhone 6 plus any better from s few feet away than I can a 6. Text size is the same, there's just more of it.

I agree. The 6 Plus display is no more visible then the 6 display so that argument is null and void. Considering how many people use their tablets and laptops in public at the end of the day in this day and age there is no way to really avoid these privacy issues unless maybe if you use a dumb phone or a 4" smart phone.

Why are you looking at sensitive emails with other people next to you in the first place. Move to another place, or stop looking at sensitive email until you are alone, problem solved.

That's an interesting point. But the problem is the 6 screen is fairly large and visible, too. I know because I can see what all the other parents are doing on their 6's when I'm waiting for the kids to be done with their sports.

I phone 6 has a very large screen that your on screen information is open to the world near you. Not so cool I must say.

I might do it simply because the ergonomics of the 6 Plus leaves lots to be desired.

I have larger display android smartphones that are easier to handle than the 6 Plus, I can fall back on those when necessary and besides I would save some coin getting the 6s rather than the Plus model.

I completely agree with you. Besides the privacy issue, I find the 6 plus very glitchy and a strain to use. I often read PDF documents on the phone and when I do the phone tends to get stuck in landscape mode. When I would try to adjust and simply use the landscape mode for text messages etc., I then find the keyboard on landscape to be not user-friendly. My phone also would randomly restart itself or stop a song mid-song when I am listening to music. Besides all of that I find it uncomfortable to carry in the hand and since it won't fit in my pocket I feel forced to constantly carry a purse. For me the plus just doesn't work. Right now the only good thing about the plus is how amazing videos look on it but I have an ipad for that so I think you are right that the extra screen size is not worth it.

Think I'm going for the 6s+ from the 6+ too

Did consider downsizing, due to size and weight. It's not heavy but having used a 6 it's feather light and easier to handle but less screen size probably wins above all else.

My only criticism is its too dam slippy so I use a case for the first time ever. Real shame as the rounded edge and glass feels great when swiping without a case on.
Just put skin (dbrand for example) and say good buy to the slippery issue
