There are still heaps of people who want an mp3 player rather than a phone though. An iPod touch is a great way to access iOs without needing an iPhone, and an iPad is just too big to carry around everyday. I think they may trim the iPod line down, but never get rid of it.

they shouldn't get rid of the iPod classic. Only the iPod touch.
 
I don't think the would do it yet, but sales are in decline as people transition to smartphones. In a 4 or 5 years I think the iPod will be killed off.

I can agree with the 4-5 years part - maybe. I think iPods and iPhones are sort of like DVDs and Blu Rays. Many people still use DVD players even though they are clearly subordinate. Just like many people still use iPods.

The iPod will definitely phase out over time, just like the DVD is in the process of doing, but it won't be any time in the near future.
