For the people who're desperately praying for another 4" screen need to understand that quite possibly with the iPhone 7 or later the 'home/touch id' button might not be there; thus freeing up some great deal of space.

An iPhone 5-ish sized phone albeit with 4.7" screen sounds like the way they'd move now. :)
Huh?

It could be an unfortunate coincidence, but I've had every iPhone since the 3G (late starter) and I have never cracked a screen before the 6, the screen of which I have cracked twice! I'm not sure if it's down to the design, or the fact that my small hands can't deal with the 4.7", but I think I would love a 4" phone with all the latest hardware and the same price tag as the 4.7" version.... please Apple! xxx

YES. I agree. I'd pay more if I could get a phone usable one hand. A metal 4 inch phone with 2GB of ram and whatever processor the 6S has in it and I'd be in heaven.
I knew there was a reason that I picked up a refirbed 64g 5s! Great phone and IMHO...a classic!

Why does a 4-inch phone have to be cheaper? I'd gladly pay the same price as (or even more than) a current 6 for a phone I can actually hold/fit in my pocket. C'mon Apple!

Why would you want to pay the same price for a lesser phone? That's like a Chevy Impala costing as much as a Ferrari.

You must be desperate for a 4 inch phone.

Same for me. Never cracked a screen before but I've cracked my 6-plus screen once and came close a second time just a few days after I got it repaired. I'm even using a case. But it's a thin case. I'm afraid to add any more bulk to this phablet.

It's not a lesser phone we want. Just smaller. Some of us do fine and see fine on the small screen. I found out I can see a tiny screen as well as I can my 6Plus screen. But I can't carry the 6plus as easily and carefree as I did my 5s and 4 (or my T a Mobile Dash or Treo phones before the iPhone.)

I did carry around a huge brick of a smart phone once. It was approximately as tall and wide as the 6 plus but as thick as an original iPhone. That was a monster but I loved it. Hitachi g1000. So I thought I could handle a 6plus. But times have changed and I've changed since I hauled that brick around on a belt clip case that came with it. I've been spoiled by small smart phones that have all the bells and whistles. At one time the trend was toward miniaturization. It's actually quite funny to see everyone want to lug around these huge phablets. I admit I was on the bandwagon myself. But I've fallen right off and landed on my head!

It doesn't matter if you have a small hand, what matters is if you have a smaller thumb than usual.
People with big/average hands can have a small thumb, hence problem with using bigger phones with a single hand.

I'm saying (and pretty sure I speak for many people on here) that I want an updated 5s with internals similar to current 6 models (or upcoming s-models). Just because the phone is smaller, doesn't mean it's lesser of a phone.

It's not necessarily a lesser phone that he's envisioning. We are at a point now where your actual needs are well-served with almost any phone. The whole package of user experience includes the feeling you get handling it, the pleasure you get from interacting with something you think is pleasant. Since the iPhone 4S, the only iPhone I've really loved to handle and look at is the 5c. I'd love for that design to continue, with the newer technology.

I have a 9.7" iPad and a 24" iMac. They're both much bigger than my 4" iPhone, but they serve different purposes. My iPhone is all about using it on the go, standing up with one hand. That's why an iPhone 5 beats an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus.

Same for me. 4 inches is more than enough for when I use my phone, which is when I'm on the go. Thus 4 inches is optimal as it gives me enough screen Realestate in addition to me being able to hold it one handed. If I really need a bigger display, I have my iPad.

A 4.7" screen fit inside the original iPhone with little to no bezel. Home button and touch ID can be incorporated into the display by using force touch, and battery life can be measured in days by making the phone as thick as the original iPhone.

I never once heard anyone say the original iPhone was too thick btw.

It wasn't when it came out, but that was nearly a decade ago now. By today's standards, the iPhone 1 is too thick, and packed out with battery it would be too heavy too.

I would think the iPhone 1 was too big. The 4 and 4S thickness was alright. To me the 5 was the point that they didn't need to really go any thinner...

To spin your analogy, you could say it's like comparing a Porsche 911 to a Porche Panamera.

One is bigger and arguably more useful since you can get the kids in the back. Can't fit in a parking space as easily though :p
