If it will really be 4", I hope it will sell overwhelmingly well that it will inspire the Android phone makers to start making non-budget sub 4.5" phones again.

Half a year ago I replaced my 4s with a 5s. Tried to talk myself into a 6 and just couldn't do it. Holding it in the store always made me feel like that shot in "Lord of the Rings" of Frodo holding the outsized tanker of beer.

Not interested in a phablet. Gimme a phone I can get out of my pocket without standing up.

I'll wait as long as it takes. My 5S has some really bad screen separation happening now.

If Apple doesn't update the 4inch family I will either buy a new 5S or the smallest android I can find.

Tried the 6 for 9 months, and will never go back to anything larger than 4 inches.

It wasn't when it came out, but that was nearly a decade ago now. By today's standards, the iPhone 1 is too thick, and packed out with battery it would be too heavy too.

I bet you most people would buy the iPhone I described over anything that's on sale today. Imagine, 2~4X battery, no protruding camera, true one hand usage.

While that would be a welcome development, getting rid of the home button would only reduce the height of the phone. The width is much more important when it comes to making the phone manageable with one hand (that's why it was relatively easy to adjust to the elongated iPhone 5). We still need a 4-inch iPhone.
Technically; the iP5 was an imperfect compromise because of the larger screen. Apple should have released a phone back at the prior 3.5" 'ideal' size at the same time as the phablets.
I don't have small hands (can reach well over an octave on the piano), yet I find myself having to deliberately position for usability. And that's before taking into account my preference for normal pockets over man-bags and baggyness.
Yes; the iP5 is usable, and that's probably what cements the 's' model as the gold standard in iPhones. But at the same time;it's still a compromise, where trimming the height back with otherwise the same manufacturing and tech would have rendered indisputable perfection.

i totally do NOT buy any rumors of a return of the 5C style phone. Why? Because in truth they didn't sell for **** compared to the 5S.
Now a 5S successor, that might be more likely.

Agreed- would totally take the current 5s size with updated internals. Thin is so overrated. Did anyone at Apple actually hold the ipad air before they released it? It looks cool, but is impossible to hold (much like the new iphones)
Could not agree more. Thin AND rounded edges- it's like trying to grab on to stick of butter. I refuse to buy a 6s and will now use my 2 year old phone until the 7 comes out next year. Lame.

The problem is that the 7 will probably be the same too. And, it won't be long now before 1GB iOS devices won't work all that well, and the older phone-sized-phones will no longer be an option.
