Paying more for less - typicsl for most european countries. Here where I live siri and all regional content simply does not work, apple does not care, but bills us higher. Great:)

Salaries do change with currency in the long run. But yes, some people will temporarily be screwed over.

Probably just to avoid the European sales taxes.

Yep. reminds me of how I bought an ibook back in 2003 I think it was when over there.

Too bad, no new iPhone for me this year. Spent just over $1k CAD last year on 128GB iPhone 6. it would be $1309 CAD this year for 128GB iPhone 6S. No thanks Apple and no thanks to this exchange rate.

I wonder if strength of USD this year will have material impact to Apple's iPhone 6S/6S+ sales.

I truly sympathize with those whose currency has dropped in value against the dollar (which based on this article is pretty much all currency short of the UK Pound), but alas this price increase is the case for any good imported into a country from the US. Could Apple take the hit and sell it cheaper in other countries, sure they could. Unfortunately in a publicly traded company like Apple, that would never fly. And truthfully at times due to fluctuating currency exchange they actually DO sell it cheaper in other countries based on currency. As we all know though, that doesn't directly reflect in employees salaries in those countries. It will always be a matter of deciding what you can and can not afford.

These iPhone regardless where you buy them are insanely expensive - there is no Moore's law here - on the Android side, you can at least expect that a top of line phone will drop off up to 50% shortly after launch.

I can afford them but I can see why this would be a problem for a lot of people.

There is one solution: Come to the United States and buy the iPhone of your choice and take it back with you to Mexico. Europeans have been doing just that for a long time now.

That's when you buy dollars in black market for lower price. Yes indeed that's a way to get it cheaper, but you need to live in the frontier to save shipping costs.

Last September (the iPhone 6-era launch), the Mexican peso was 13–13.5 against the dollar. Now it’s 17. About a 25% drop in value against USD.

It’s only fair for Apple’s prices to reflect currency fluctuations, isn’t it?

It's totally fair for them. I'm not implying it's their fault. But that impact users, ergo, that impact them also. Higher prices, lower demand.

Here are the new German prices

iPhone 6S plus
  • 16 GB: €849 instead. €739
  • 64 GB: €959 instead. €849
  • 128 GB: €1069 instead. €959

This is what really ticks me off .... when the Canadian Dollar was at parity with the US dollar a year or two ago ... it took forever for Apple to drop prices ....
But when the dollar is week .. heyyy .. lets bump up the prices as soon as we can.

Let us see how long the US dollar will stay strong when the FED finally admits that US economic recovery is weak and that QE4 is needed to keep afloat the economy.

Once steve told about HP, IBM, Microsoft - they are run by sales guys and accountant.

every day passes by apple is becoming one of them.

To get LTE model of iPad Pro one has to spend more than $1000 :)

The off-contract prices for the iPhone 6s Plus in Australia are $1,229, $1,379 and $1,529 CAD for 16GB, 64GB and 128GB of storage respectively. Earlier this week, the iPhone 6 Plus retailed for $1,149, $1,299 and $1,449 in Australian dollars for the same storage sizes respectively.

I'm confused. Australia uses the Canadian dollar? I believe the correct abbreviation here would be AUD.

Totally. One year ago I bought my unlocked 64GB Space Gray 6 for $970.67 all in. The fact that this model has now not only crested but blown past the $1K mark just frustrates the hell out of me.

Same here. It does all of us.

But the best part is, when our dollar finally starts to climb, we will not see that reflected back. Prices will stay where they are. We have seen this in Canada for years with the dollar fluctuation. You hear it on the news all the time that prices are rising due to the fact that it cost more to import due to the dollar being low, but do we see prices go down when it cost less to import when our dollar climbs? Just something to think about.

This isn't good in any way. Not a very good idea to upgrade these days... I'm from Mexico, a new iPhone (16Gb) used to cost $9600 MXN Pesos, now it's $12000 ... 20% price increase, and there isn't much to do.
I use to sell iPhone to people in Mexico since I'm in the US lol

I don't want to even know the prices in Poland for the 6S. The 6 was absurdly expensive - iPhones and Macs are more expensive in Poland than in Germany or UK, when converted to Polish currency, which means around 80 to 90 Euros more. Mind you that iPhone costs an equivalent of an average Polish salary. That is just insane.
After my adventures with the iPhone 6, which had bent after 3 months of usage - keeping it in the front pocket of my jeans (they're not tight, hipster jeans by the way). Obviously Apple rejected my complaint.
Then there are my constant issues with syncing music, where iTunes sees 70GBs of Other instead of music and I have to wipe the phone clean to have it working, although recently even that didn't work.
So basically, I am leaning towards saying: "fU Apple".
Not only do I have to pay a premium price for their products (which is more than wealthier people in Germany, France, Italy... pay), but I don't get a premium service with that price tag - it's better than the usual service level in Poland, but lightyears away from the US.
Complete that picture with Apple's services and software, which are becoming less and less trustworthy and I gotta seriously consider other options. I had always dread Android, but I gotta admit that Lollipop not only looks nice, but has a well-thought out UI/UX. Pair it with a Nexus and you got yourself a solid performer that's half the price of the iPhone. And it doesn't freaking bend! Which Apple practically admitted making the 6S out of a new, more rigid aluminum!

USD/CAD on Sept 10, 2014 = 1.10
USD/CAD on Sept 10, 2015 = 1.32

difference YTD = 22 cents per dollar.

iPhone 6 Plus (16GB) 2014 = $749US/$969CAD = 1.30 rate (20 cents off from 9/10 rate).
iPhone 6s Plus (16GB) 2015 = $749US/1029CAD = 1.37 rate (5 cents off from current rate).

This is a non article. The bigger story is why were we getting ripped off on currency conversion last year?!

Yeah it made me hold on purchasing ever since the last 2 price increase! It's just out of this world...It is still more affordable for many items to purchase them in the US if you can. (Purchased some bands in Philly during the summer).

This is what really ticks me off .... when the Canadian Dollar was at parity with the US dollar a year or two ago ... it took forever for Apple to drop prices ....

X2 agree with you! But it's like this for pretty much everything we buy (Apple or not)...always very slow to lower prices

You mean spend more money getting a plane ticket to go to the US just to get the iPhone cheaper?

With the high exchange rate for USD I like to use the 2-feet rule... I turn around, use my 2 feet and walk away. ;)
Wake me up when it makes sense to buy American.
