Yup it really sucks because I got a job that pays 2x as much as before but now with our weak dollar it doesn't even matter.

It isn't just phones that has gone up, a lot of stuff. Food, other electronics, etc

actually the salaries for the union workers goes up...as that was the cause of everything going up in the first place. voting liberal worked out great huh?

Oh my, it doesn't look good for the iPhone here in Mexico.

If my iPhone 5 dies on me, maybe I'll have to consider an Android alternative. With the current exchange rate a new iPhone will most likely be prohibitively expensive.

Yet we didn't get our electronics or anything else discounted when that was the case.

Really an annoying double standard. When our dollar is better we pay the same as the U.S. But when ours dips they sing us with extra charges.

I do recognize that our dollar is far lower than the USD ever has been to ours but the point is that a few years ago when it started to slip out prices went way up (I pay $10-$20 more for a PS4 game, for example) even though we got no benefit when it was higher.

In 2011 the 4S was $549 in Canada.

I don't mind paying the going exchange rate. I don't expect Apple to take a hit and Apple should not expect me to take a $168 hit on a $990 item.

Ummm Don't you guys have a VAT (or I believe it goes by GST/HST)? Isn't that like 14% in certain territories? So doing some quick math....

This week alone the exchange rate has hit a high of 1.34. So 749 x 1.34 = 1003.66 + 14% = 1144.17 - That's pretty close to $1158 is it not?

We in the US pay our taxes on top of the price so when you see 749, it can be anywhere from 749 - 899 (depending on State and local tax rates that I have personally paid as high as 18%).

Edit: So yes to quote your quote: The devil is in the details - and the deliverables.

The US Price for a 64GB 6S is $749 USD. The current exchange rate is .7565. The converted price should be $990 CAD. The CA price of 1159 yields $876 US. This is a gigantic rip off of $168 CAD. Why can't they just charge on the current exchange rate? Seems better to buy from the US on a credit card.

As of yesterday, the credit cards were charging $1.36CAD for $1USD. Looking at the base iPhone 6S 16GB price, apple is using $1.38 (899/650). So a bit more but not by much.

GST taxes are calculated on top of the listed price just like in the U.S.

This isn't good in any way. Not a very good idea to upgrade these days... I'm from Mexico, a new iPhone (16Gb) used to cost $9600 MXN Pesos, now it's $12000 ... 20% price increase, and there isn't much to do.

Well yeah of course they had to adjust it. MSRP in the USA is $650. At 9600 pesos thats's only $572 USD!!

Not really priced higher. An adjustment in currency conversion (for Canada anyways).

Err, what?

The price a company chooses for it's product has no link to currency conversion other than maintaining a set profit margin. Currencies fluctuate every second of every day, but usually the changes are so small that they're incurred by the said company without a second thought.

However in this instance, because the dollar is continuing to be so strong and Apple are continuing to love the green stuff, they sought to go beyond maintaining that margin.

Can't say I'm impressed, but then nothing surprises me under Tim Cook anymore.

With the price of iPhones rising due to the US dollar appreciation, it will be interesting to see if sales drop. For people on contracts, like most people in Australia, they probably won't notice.
For myself, the iPhone 6 was the first device that replaced my camera and having a separate iPod. I used to spend more on a camera + iPod + iPhone (because the battery life was crap)

As an Aussie I usually have a massive whinge when this happens. This time it seems quite reasonable given the strength of the USD against the AUD.

I'm just glad I bought my 6 last year ;) don't need a 6s...

This is what really ticks me off .... when the Canadian Dollar was at parity with the US dollar a year or two ago ... it took forever for Apple to drop prices ....
But when the dollar is week .. heyyy .. lets bump up the prices as soon as we can.

Let us see how long the US dollar will stay strong when the FED finally admits that US economic recovery is weak and that QE4 is needed to keep afloat the economy.

The main reason why the US dollar has strengthened is because the Chinese economy is in decline, which makes the US economy seem more enticing. China has been artificially propping up the value of its currency for years which has screwed the rest of the world, but now that China is transitioning its GDP to exports, a lower currency makes it less appealing to the markets. So the US gets all the chocolates.

This will be the first year I am not forking money over to Apple for an iPhone upgrade, EVER, since iPhone 3G

Last year was the first time ever that I skipped upgrading iPad... All due to the fact I found it very stupid and lame that adding a "Touch ID" to iPad Mini was considered a generation upgrade (while IDENTICAL in every other specs). It effectively broke my annual upgrade habit - otherwise I would probably suck up the price increase this year and fork over $3k for iPhone/iPad Pro etc.

Bad business decisions by Apple lately, but good for my wallet I guess.

When travel was really cheap ($400 round trip London to NY) in the late 90s to early 2000s many English people came here to shop (mostly for clothes) because of our prices.

Right, but the point was about iPhones. Sure, if you're talking about other things. I happen to know a few people that would fly out of the U.S to Germany to buy a Mercedes to save on cost. I'm just saying I highly doubt people would travel (especially at today's travel costs) from the UK to the USA for an iPhone. They won't save money. In fact it would end up costing them more, plus their time. It's not worth it.

USD/CAD on Sept 10, 2014 = 1.10
USD/CAD on Sept 10, 2015 = 1.32

difference YTD = 22 cents per dollar.

iPhone 6 Plus (16GB) 2014 = $749US/$969CAD = 1.30 rate (20 cents off from 9/10 rate).
iPhone 6s Plus (16GB) 2015 = $749US/1029CAD = 1.37 rate (5 cents off from current rate).

This is a non article. The bigger story is why were we getting ripped off on currency conversion last year?!

We weren't.

The 6+ 64gb was $969 not the 16gb a year ago. The prices went up in April or something.

That's what I bought it for in September 2014

I don't see the problem here, 899 CAD is $680 USD, about what it is in the US.

This situation would be the same as Apple only advertising a USD price, and then doing a real-time currency conversion through your payment method.

No, some people said that the prices quoted in the article were wrong. So those photos are there so people stop saying rubbish.

This really upsets me.
i will be buying on a 2 year contract anyway, but i bet those prices will increase too.
Sigh!!!!!!!!!!!

Noting do to with the "pure" exchange rate... The IPhone's are made in China, so the cost to produce is not in $ USD. With the cost of labour in China so low and the yuan-renminbi at 0,15 cents, you can imagine how much profit Apple is making. Apple coud easily adapt their price structure by countries and still made a lot of profit. That is by the way, what other compagnies do...

But the price structure is based on US consumers.Let's say the iPhone prices were the same in CAD$ or Euro (649€,649$ CAD for 16g), guest what, all USA consumers will have an incentive to buy outside of the USA with the current USD dollar. In doing so, lowering Apple profit.

In the end, that strategy will put a dent in the sales of IPhone outside of the USA.

You mean spend more money getting a plane ticket to go to the US just to get the iPhone cheaper?

I have family over there that comes back to spain very often and so i could get one like that, but i would like to be able to buy it from here at a regular price, that's one of the things that bothers me not only about apple but many other companies, they just set whatever ****ing price they want for europe, if its 650$ for the 16gb 6s which means 580 euros why do i have to pay 740 euros, just make it 650 euros, you are making a profit either way

Someone tell me why they have to I increase the prices because of a stronger US dollar? Doesn't make sense to me? Is it because they are losing too much?already in Australia the cost doesn't convert anywhere close to what the US pays, it just blows my mind why they do this?

Looking at this my next iPhone if I'm buying it outright will have to be from overseas and on eBay

Yet everytime I go to Canada they always think the value of my money 1:1. The worst part some stores won't accept and some charges a fee. SMH.

According to reality, that would be considered a price rise.

price
prʌɪs/
noun
  1. 1.
the amount of money expected, required, or given in payment for something.
"land could be sold for a high price"

Here at AUD has taken a big hit since this time last year, not that I'd buy an iPhone outright. I was considering upgrading my 5s but it's working fine, still got good battery life so might wait 12 months, change to a lower plan and save a bit of cash in the mean time.

My 3Gs lasted me about 3 years until I got the 5s so I think I can wait this upgrade out and get the iPhone 7 in 12 months time!
