I HATE the camera on the 6+...
This phone was the first phone that I felt that the camera took a step back..
Especially in the video department! The 5s is superior than the 6+

Low light pictures should be better with the 6+ thanks to the OIS.
What is the problem you have with 6+ regarding video recording?

I like that Apple has increased the number of pixels but more pixels on the same size sensor will result in more "noise", especially at lower light levels. It is how Apple chooses to handle the extra "noise" that concerns me. Get to heavy with "noise" control and you can end up with "mush".

We will know today.

I've seen multiple people comment that they wish the lens was f/2. A 1/3 stop wider aperture isn't a game changer or anything. F/2 from f/2.2 means you'll get 1/50s shutter speeds instead of 1/40s at the same ISO. Or 1/30s instead of 1/25. Or you'll be shooting at ISO 1000 instead of 800 at the same shutter speed. It's not like we're talking about a major difference in light gathering.

I'm hoping for some big improvements this year.

I must admit, the iPhone 5S is still my favourite iPhone camera, the 6 over processes pictures with heavy noise reduction in my opinion, the pictures tend to look a bit soft.
I agree, I hate the photos from my 6. Zoom in and everything is an oil painting. If they fix that with the 6s I'll be happy.

Ok. So I have been debating the upgrade now for a week. The only reason I would upgrade at this point is if I felt there was a decent upgrade to the camera. I was hoping for higher quality photos along with better performance in low light for photo and video. I am getting conflicting answers here. Is this something I should expect in the 6s or should I stick with my 6?

Do it! This may be the biggest upgrade to the camera yet. 12 MP, reduced noise, impoved local tone mapping, more pixels, 4K video, live photos, ect. It's got to seriously be the best phone cam on the market.

But what am I reading about increased noise because of the MP increase, without a change to the sensor. (See below) Sounds like it may be worse in low light? I used to know this stuff but now I am completely stupid when it comes to camera specs.

I think Apple would not let a DOWNGRADED camera on to their S model. Every S model has had an amazing jump in quality (the 5 vs. 5s was hugeee.) Also based on that one picture Apple showed (the pretty blonde on a train, with very little light and low natural light in the background) showed just how powerful it is. It captured just the right amount of light, while still preserving all the detail. It was truly impressive. I'm most excited to challenge the camera in difficult lighting and seeing how well it performs.

Apple has people much smarter than us working on this and they would never release a camera then was worse than the predecessor. If you think the 6 is worse than the 5s you are wrong.

The camera on the 6 IS better, like you say, but the way the pictures are handled on the 6 is a lot worse and results in unwanted compression.

I have no complaints about my 6. I loved my 4s. So I guess I'll just have to trust what Apple did. I haven't made the decision yet. Trying to justify another upgrade. Since I kept my 4s for 3 years. Was a great phone.

What do you mean by we will know today? If you happened to pay attention to the keynote that Apple had for the iPhone camera, they did mention that they redesigned the pixels on the sensor so they won't get light bleeding over into the other colors which makes noise more evident. Apple says that they have designed the pixels on the sensor to where noise would not be evident. Now there are certain other apps like Cortex Camera & average camera pro that will greatly reduce noise for you anyway. So you do have options out there if there is noise to get rid of. You should check those out I highly recommend it. Go get those apps now!

I understand and will look into a third party photo app as it gives control over ISO and aperture, etc.

If you guys want to better control over your cameras, I recommend 645 pro and you can lower the ISO and shutter speed on the fly and keep it low.

The 1.2mp front camera on the iPhones are/were better than any android front cameras out there lol
What are you talking about? All current Android flagships have way better front cameras. Seriously, the only modern flagship phone with crap selfie camera is the iPhone. It's absolutely terrible: lots of noise, not wide enough, low-res pictures.

I guess owning one android phone like Ross1998 means ALL lol.

Excesive noise reduction it's coming back I'm almost sure of that without any doubt, that's why I kept my 5S IMO the best in Photography.

The problem here is that better noise reduction still does not produce the same quality of image as not having noise in the first place. That's the root of the concern here. As far as whether or not Apple has handled that concern, we won't know until the phone is out and we can see pics from it.
