I hope it is OLED. As much of a hater that I am against Samsung. The S6 display is brilliant

I want color accuracy, sunlight usability, display longevity without color shifts, and REAL pixels, not Pentile-style cheats that leave a fine checkerboard over everything. Until I've heard of all those OLED problems being sufficiently solved, I want Apple to stick with really top-end LCD and LED backlights and not cut corners Samsung-style.

Those LCD benefits add up to a lot more to me than the black level when the phone is used in total darkness. Yes, in total darkness, OLED black is blacker. I don't even notice, and if I learned to pay attention to it, I still wouldn't care enough to give up color accuracy (which is different from gamut and "looking colorful") etc.

I do think OLED will solve those things, and if they've all been solved and I just haven't heard it, then you are free to proceed with OLED, Apple :)

(OLED can also offer a wide viewing angle and no edge bleed--but iPhones have been awesome in those regards already. It's also battery-friendly with an all-black UI.... not something I desire on my phone, although it's fine on the Watch.)

Force touch sounds like resistive touch screens to me. You know like the ones at ATMs? A definite step backwards

While Im exited by the S release as Im desperately in need of a replacement for my 5. This video, pretty much shows some of the parts working when electricity is applied to them. Doesnt seem to show me any more new exciting stuff or confirm or deny some of the S rumors ;)

the article looked like iPhone 6's - shouldnt it be 6S instead of 6s - but with so many options for iPhone 6 and 6+ a 6S and 6S+ seem over complicated, hopefully it gets a revamped name to a degree

Practical question - do we think the iPhone 6S will fit existing iPhone 6 cases from Speck and others?

No idea. The screen sizes will remain the same but the phone itself might be 0.2mm thicker to accommodate for Force Touch. That's for both phones, so the 6s would jump to 7.1mm and the 6s Plus to 7.3mm.

What I find interesting is the lack of any Taptic Engine in these leaks. Hasn't that been a major part of the Force Touch experience in both the Watch and MacBook trackpads? Seems weird to not include it in the iPhone implementation of the feature; which is arguably the most significant product to receive this feature yet.

Speaking of the iPhone 6S and the September 9th event, shouldn't invites be rolling out this week given that it's 2 weeks before said event?

Yeah, this time last year, Apple issued the invites on the Thursday of this week for the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch event.

Usually, invites go out ~1 week before, but I think they did 2 weeks last year because of the huge unveiling of the Watch.

Guess we'll find out this week or next week, one way or the other!

I imagine the implementation would be similar to the Watch, but I'm sure it could just use the vibration motor in the iPhone.

The new iPhone is going to have force touch. You know like how when you go to the ATM, or when you work at McDonalds and you have to press hard on the screen? That's what the new iPhone will have. :)

What is this, 2012? Those issues have been solved a couple years ago bud. I think the confusion comes in with the fact that other manufacturers use AMOLED which still exhibit those issues HOWEVER Samsung uses SAMOLED which has none of those issues. This version of SAMOLED was developed by Samsung and used exclusively in their phones since the Galaxy S5 (I believe since the S5) and Samsung doesn't license or sell it to any other manufacturer for use in other phones. This is unfortunate because it truly is the best in class display. Color accuracy, saturation, sharpness, black levels, white levels, day light viewing all score much higher than any iPhone and was rated the " The best performing smartphone display of any kind they had ever tested" and the highest rated display that display mate (a display research company) had ever tested. The iPhone 6 display is no slouch of course, it got rated stating that it was "The best performing smartphone LCD display they had ever tested".

Anyhow if Apple could somehow manage to switch to this display it would be great. Although they have the 'best LCD display' it would be nice to have the 'best mobile display' period. However I don't see Samsung ever licensing this and giving their advantage away. Apple would need to come up with their own technology for this, but I don't see this happening either - they license their displays and outsource manufacturing of them so they really aren't in the display technology research arena (as far as developing new technologies go).

The standard vibration motor and the Taptic Engine are totally different. You couldn't make the MacBook trackpad feel like it was actually clicking with a regular vibration motor.

I like the fact Apple takes these "harder" measure doesn't mean anything in today's world, If its tech, we can open it..

I guess iFixIt will be all over this and with heaps of glue instead of screws. the repair-ability score
would be high.

Companies try so tough to prevent users from getting in... I admire that :D

I would have also preferred seeing the Apple logo, but a gear is just as good. Know that its 'working'

Do we know if the new radio(s) will support T-Mobile's band 12 700Mhz LTE?

Also, with this new radio, can you be on Verizon's network (not 4g lte) and do simultaneous voice/data? like with every other non-iphone out there...

Hoping for OLED as well. There is another back panel that will go over this one shown. You can tell because the holes on the side of the frame show 'screw holes'. Similar to the ones found on the iPhone 6/5S/5C/5.

One thing to notice, is that the iPhone 6S screen has a SINGLE CONNECTOR for the display, versus the 2 separate connectors (one for touch/digitizer and one for LCD) found on the iPhone 6. Generally LCD screens require this separate connection for the Digitizer/LCD panels. This single connection on the iPhone 6S is what originally lead us to believe this could be an OLED panel.

However, in other photos found on the web, a Backlight Solder Connection is clearly present on the iPhone 6S Display as well, which would kill our OLED dreams.

If there are any other technicians in this forum, we would love to know your opinion.

My speculation is that with .2 mm difference, stretchy silicone cases will be ok, but rigid ones might not be, but probably will be too.

For reference, a dollar bill is .109 mm thick.
