I don't think you realise what we are talking about. No one wants a heavy-handed camera flash style notificatio light. We are talking about a discreet LED on the front of the phone, similar to what every Android phone has had for years.

I prefer a clean design to the convenience of LEDs. Apple must as well. The front camera already looks ugly enough on the white iphones, we don't need more clutter.

What is the "best" phone on the market..the S6? I disagree. If we're talking specs, sure it's the best..but a Corvette has much better specs than a Porsche 911, nowhere near the same quality or level of engineering though. We all have difference preferences.

But if you are prepared to pay top dollar, the best phone available on the market is an Android. The mobile world has changed, Apple has been slow to respond.

I have been using high end top dollar Android phones for the last 3 years. I just ordered a iPhone 6S Plus. Why? I am tired of the lagging, the requirement to keep wiping my application cache or partition cache to keep the phone running smooth. Not to mention the inability to stream music via bluetooth without having it skip and stutter. Please don't tell me this isn't an issue, because all one has to do is look at Google's own support forums as there is thread after thread of all these issues across multiple manufactures. What do they all have in common? Android OS.

Android phones have better specs, because that is what it take to run the OS that is is Android to even remotely have them on par with iPhones with less specs. If my only concern is specs and customizing then I guess you could say that Android is the best phone on the market. Otherwise, I'd say you are wrong and I based that on my 3 years of experience.

I've been an Android user for years - 5 different manufacturers - and ALL of them had front facing LED notification lights. Not ridiculously bright flash-strength LEDs, but discreet low power-use versions. Not one person I know has ever turned them off - they are extremely useful. One of those androids allowed me to display different colours depending if it was a missed call, text, email, or just social media.

Since I got an iPhone, I have to constantly turn the phone on to see if I missed a call or message. It uses up considerably more battery life than a low powered LED.

Apple is so far behind the times on this one, its embarrassing. The rest of the world gets it, why doesn't Apple?
I did the Samsung test drive. One of the first things I did was turn off the notification light. No thanks. It bugs me.

Apple's obviously not going to add an LED. They've even removed the battery and sleep LEDs from their notebooks. Jailbreak or become a big enough shareholder in Apple that you can voice your ideas to Tim personally.

I can't comprehend why they've removed them. The FaceTime camera should have a green LED anyway when it's on...

This notion of an LED notification flash... I have no interest in it. I would be the type of person to turn it off.

I don't want to think about notifications. My phone doesn't beckon me, I read my emails when I am good and ready.

More important things like missed calls can certainly make a difference for some.

If they move to OLED for the display then they could have something similar to what Motorola use for notification's which is just as good as having a LED, and doesn't use much battery life.

It one thing i hate the most with the iPhone having to pick it up and check for any messages, if i leave the phone for any length of time.
Thy made a watch for that (I am not kidding, they want you to buy their watch lol)

Spend hundreds of dollars because Apply won't spend $1 to add a tiny LED? You're a marketers dream. Or perhaps you work for their marketing dept.

No not working for Apple. I come from a blackberry long ago and love notification lights and how nice they were on your phone but after hoping for many years that Apple would give us one, I gave up. I do not mean to dash ones hopes but I and other wished for this for years and we never see it happen.

Adding an LED Notification light seems like it'd be going backwards to me. The current design trend is towards sleeker, smoother designs. Nobody wants the front of their phone to be cluttered with various different bits and bobs.

Notification LED I'm sure would be useful for a lot of people, but it's not a "much needed" feature, if anything Apple could probably work a way to activate pixels on the screen when there is a notification. Though that'd require a pretty extensive screen overhaul, if something like that is even possible with current technology.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I had a Blackberry before and an Android for work. You're not getting that on an iPhone and thank goodness for it. But that's as close as you're going to get on an iPhone.

Why is it a good thing not to have an option for that on the iPhone?

I'll put it this way. I'd prefer a 4" iPhone. That's my preference. Other people don't think Apple needs to release that size ever again. I would love to have that option. But I've come to terms with it. You prefer some notification light. I hate them. Again, all personal preference.

There's a greater chance of me getting a 4" iPhone again than you getting that official notification light. At some point, you'll have to accept that it's not going to happen or jail break your phone to get it. Wishing for it to happen and complaining about it here isn't going to help or change it. I just presented you with an option that didn't require a jail break. That's all I meant by it.

Chances of it happening are one thing, but thinking it's good that the option for
that isn't there is another. I don't want a 4 inch phone, but I don't think it's good that the option for one doesn't exist. And that's not even in the same league as an LED notification light.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Neither one of us is getting an option we'd like to have. Difference is, I've explored alternatives, decided I didn't like them and have accepted that I'm not getting a 4" iPhone and have adjusted my expectations accordingly.

So anyone who claims an LED indicator is useless is very misinformed. I use 3 devices while conducting business daily and I keep a blackberry 9930 around because it's an amazing phone and offers the LED. Additionally I have customized the LED to glow different colors for different things so when I am in a meeting I can see the light on the phone while it sits on the table.

Since Apple probably considers this prehistoric they should innovate like they love to do and perfect an LED indicator by baking it into the touchID ring or make the apple on the back have some LED functionality l. Simply put, having a FaceTime LED That doubles as a notification LED is the best option but hey, I don't get paid the big bucks by Apple to think.

Expectations have long been adjusted by most, doesn't mean that discussion of it here and there can't happen, or that it doesn't make sense to question someone who somehow sees it as a good thing that an option for something doesn't exist.
