iPhone 6S low demand?

It boils down to one thing.... No more scalpers.

When the 6 and 6+ were launched, 80+% of the people in the queue were scalpers waiting to ship them off to China, and they would often "invite" family members to artificially extend the queue later in the morning. It was terrible.

Now that it's being launched at the same time in China, there's no more profit incentive to scalp / flip / ship back to China, and life is good for the genuine iPhone buyers.

What I did notice were a small queue of Vietnamese people outside the same Apple store, but that was much more manageable, about 1/4 the size of the one in 2014. When Apple does simultaneous launches in more countries in Southeast Asia, I hope that I'll finally be able to join a queue outside an Apple store and have fun with real Apple fans, not annoying flippers who can only talk about where to get the most profit re-selling their device.

If every iPhone launch does not break a sales record, that means there was a significant drop in market share. Every year there are more and more people using iPhones (ignore market share, just more population). Apple gets better at supply and therefore can sell more on opening weekend. It's a misleading statistic in my opinion but for a public company, good publicity always pads the pockets.

Frankly the statistic is of only real value to shareholders maybe, although clearly the stock market remains unconvinced. As a consumer I just want my iPhone in the most painless possible way, I don't care how many Apple sells over a weekend.

(unless I'm some kind of snob who likes to show off that I have an iPhone that no one else can get... which, sadly, is what makes scalping so profitable)

I don't believe it is less demand as it has been estimated apple is selling 50 iPhones per second. I think they did not expect the higher demand for the plus and lower demand for the regular model though. They've sold 13 million so far compared to 10 million last year.

It's weird to fight over whether or not Apple is making more money or less... unless you're Tim Cook or someone on the iPhone 6S development team where it's your personal effort, just let it slide whether or not there is "actually" higher or lower demand.

The fact that my dad ordered a 6s 128 rose gold yesterday and it shipped today shows here is indeed a lass demand on the 6 this year. Yes it will still sell well but not as much as they projected but hey that's just my opinion

Agree on the 6s. It's readily available in most stores across the UK.
Whereas the 6s Plus has NIL stock.

Sorry but you have me confused! Take a look at my post above yours. There is zero 6 Plus stock in the UK.
Hardly what I would call more supply this year.
We are talking about all 6s phones in this year's launch, not just the 6s+. There is a known issue with supply on the backlights that makes 6s+'s supply constrained in many places.

I was replying to the stock of the regular 6S

Plus does seem to be getting more popular it's why Samsung aren't selling note 5 here in uk

Are you saying 13 mil over the weekend are low? What other companies have a bigger number?

Considering China, New Zealand and an extra week to preorder, an extra 3 million over last year doesn't mean demand is up. We won't know til end of FY. It'll be interesting to see Apple top this with a redesigned iphone 7 which they could struggle getting enough supply early on.

I love this...People complain when they can't order a phone, or grab one in the store the first week it gets released. Now things are smooth and people question the smoothness. Lol

Bottom line...Apple has finally gotten their sh#t together after so many iPhone launches, and now the ordering systems are being utilized more than ever these days and making things very easy on people. Enjoy it people.

Exactly!

Things seem to be ok-

I think they had more supply for this launch compared to last year. Their reservation system also seems to be working very well, and more and more people are choosing to order online vs. waiting outside an Apple Store for days. I think the trend of less lines will continue, but aren't S releases usually a little less crazy in that regard?

I had no problem reserving my phone the day after it went on sale and picking it up at an Apple Store a couple hours later. The guy who handled my reservation said sales were the best he'd seen. I guess we'll have to wait for some reliable figures, but all the early signs are pointing to 6S sales being as good or better than they've ever been.

The China expansion is going to be huge for sales. I've heard the number of people currently in the market for a smartphone in China equals the entire population of the United States.

Reliable figures have been released (direct from Apple)-
