No, I said about 10 posts prior that if it's crashing constantly, he should take it back. But it likely has nothing to do with the storage memory type, and no cause for running around crying about the sky falling.

Fair enough. I missed that post. But anyway, was just pointing out there is a lot of unnecessary negativity here. I personally don't feel the op was running around like the sky is falling. $1000 is a lot of money to have a phone you're unhappy with.

Sure. If the OP is unhappy cause his/her phone is crashing, they're free to return it, exchange it, whatever they feel they need to do. But saying "Shame on Apple..." and "urging you guys to check yours" is pointless and melodramatic. It's just trying to start another "-gate".

Am I the only ine that isn't glossing over the fact that the OP's phone crashed? Seems
To have crashed at least once, but perhaps
Multiple times (this is unclear to me based on subsequent replies).

This is the danger of the Internet. You come on here trying to figure out what might be the issue and you end up finding some things out that may or may not be relevant. In this case mlc versus tlc.

In any case, we can all be a little more accepting and tolerant. The post certainly doesn't read to me "I'm returning this because I ran a diagnostic and found out my hardware was different from what I prefer". Sounds like said diagnostic wouldn't even have been run had there been. I issues to begin with.
I read it, and to me it looked like the OP had already self diagnosed his devices own problem and only posted to complain about some TLC VS MLC band flash. Also, the OP states that the iPhone is being returned to Apple..... This is just another complaint to go along with the list of others on here which to me seem like half of them are useless given that Apple will replace any iPhone with warranty issues.... I for one refuse to check my iPhone for non issues like this one or the silly chip thingy, lol.

I think part of the problem that people have here is that one thread like this gets started and the next thing you know someone adds a gate to the end of it, and then 20 more threads come to follow on the same subject. As someone stated earlier in here, most people don't even know what TLC is let alone how to check for it. Or should I say "if they cared to check for it". ;)

Exactly. If someone ever wanted to do a case study on groupthink, there would be no better example than the MacRumors forums. People just feed into each other here while looking for justification.

Hello, I just recently got my 6s plus 64gb and was wondering if my phone is tlc or mlc because the I had tlc iphones and were crashing alot so I hope I have the mlc this time..
I am not jailbroken and tried to iokitbrower or pgyer apps which I could not install idk why..and did some speed test and it came out 118 117 and 185 write speed and I am not sure if this is mlc or tlc...any suggestions?

It's TLC flash. The speeds from any given benchmark varies on what's being tested? 4K raw files? Burst performance? 2K files? All of these different file types provide different results. 118, 117 and 185 can be anything.

I understand the problem. What I don't understand is the berating. "I have a problem with you or what you said so I'm going to continue to berate you and come back for more." Doesn't make sense to me, but it obviously does to many in this thread
Either way, it's done now. And I probably shouldn't have posted myself lol.

So, you come back 7 days after this thread was done to post this. Btw, I don't even know why you picked my post to quote when it didn't berate anyone as I simply stated a fact.. Perhaps you are just having a bad day and needed someone to vent to. ;) Hope your day gets better. :)

It was a response to your since you responded to mine. And I did mention, yes, it was probably wasted breath.

Wasn't quite venting. Just logging in on my free time (hadn't been around for a week, hence the timeline). Appreciate the well wishes.

The top consumer SSDs use TLC (Samsung 840 EVO and 850 EVO), and the industry has been moving to TLC for a while.

The storage on the iPhone 6S (with TLC) absolutely destroys older devices that just happen to be using MLC in benchmarks.

I think it's funny that people are concerned about TLC flash in their device. With years of testing and with what Apple and Samsung have shown it to be capable of, why still doubt it?

Perhaps because there were some things linking it to issues when it came to some iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models?

Thought i would share TLC Nand speed comparisons between the ipad air 2, iphone 6 and the new iphone 6s plus all the 128GB versions (own these). All running iOS 9.0.2 and JB with pangu.

air2 and 6splus nand speeds pretty amazing - iphone 6 is meh but still good

still early days yet, but on quick comparisons iphone 6s plus starts up quite a bit faster than the iphone 6 and ipad air 2 (cold boot, can't really tell unless comparing side by side). Not to say they are slow by any means, but wow just shows how far things have come. The 2GB memory for multitasking definitely helps too (air2 and 6s/6s+).

I wouldn't. The dust still hasn't settled around the malware coming out of China and it's prudent to avoid installing anything that's not from the App Store (and some Chinese malware even made it to the official App Store, giving you an idea how messed up things have been). Unless others on this forum are familiar with this developer and can vouch for it, I would steer clear. And I honestly can't see why anyone would try to identify the maker of their flash unless they are having crashes. And even then, I'd leave it to Apple to sort out. Within the return period, I'd get a new iPhone. Outside of it, I'd insist politely on warranty service.

Thanks for (finally) a voice of reason amidst the arrogance & sarcasm!

LOL, you should post this to TLC Samsung 840 EVO owners. I thought everybody was already aware of the problems with 840 EVO.

I got myself an 840 evo 1tb ssd running in my pc, updated the firmware to the latest available. its been pretty reliable (touch wood) still under warranty so yeah. Waiting for a price drop on the 850 evo/pro 2tb then im in. 4tb ssd on the horizon next year for consumers - ridiculous price of course (not enterprise).

nothing is perfect, I just had my old iphone 5 exhibit the power-sleep button issue (covered globally by apple), phone almost 3 years old since manufacture, I got a brand new replacement iphone 5 only 5 months old (at no extra cost). thanks apple you rock.
