It will probably have 2 gig of ram and force touch, better camera, iOS9 (which might end up being the best iOS yet. Seems like all of this might be enough of an upgrade to just call it iPhone 7.

That...sounds like an S upgrade (Supgrade?). S upgrades don't necessarily have to be small, unless you're talking about the 4S. They tend to have major internal upgrades, a better camera, and a killer feature, like Touch ID, and in this case, Force Touch. And yes, they also tend to come with major iOS updates, like 5, 7, and now 9.

4S wasn't that small of an upgrade with the first dual core CPU and a greatly improved GPU. A much improved rear camera. It was also the first iPhone that supported CDMA and GSM together basically. Plus there was Siri (whether or not some might care about it).

I think it would cause too much confusion if it were released as the "iPhone 7", so I believe that it will just be the "iPhone 6s." No need to change the names if they really don't have to.

My iPhone doesn't have a name on it anywhere. Therefore, who cares what it's called? Every time I see one of these "name of the next iPhone" threads, it puzzles me why so many care what the name is. They literally could call it anything and if it has the features I want, I'll buy it. It's just a freaking name.

Hi, does anyone know if its going to be a iphone 6s or 7?

Do you know when the UK release date is?

Any idea on the specs yet?

If there is a thread similar to this please forward me to it..

i dont think so this happend ... 2 reason

1.

macrumors already announce 6S leak in main page .....

2. S version is improve . always S fix for perfect

ios 8.1 is a joke , 9 is improve for perfect same as every model

3g = 3gs improve
4 = 4s improve
5 = 5s improve
6 = 6s improve /

No, there's no chance. I'm really not sure what people aren't understanding about the process that Apple has had in place for 8 years now, but... It does NOT matter what they do to the internals of the phone. A new number in the name designates new body, an S designates improved internals with the same body as the previous year.

You could put 16GB of RAM, force touch, 1TB of storage, an AMOLED screen, and a 40MP camera in the thing. If the body of the phone looks the same as the previous model, all they're going to do is add an "S" on the end.

Why do we not understand their naming convention yet??

We do.

Implying that a change in direction is foolish as best. Is it likely? No. Is it most certainly a possibility? Absolutely.

mmm... are you sure that the performances of 5s are much better of 5 considering the 64 bit processor paired with 1 gb of ram? as far as i know, the 5 reloads much more less than the 5s...
right, improved camera, flash, touch id... but i'm not sure i will choose the 5s over the 5... apps reloading is quite an issue for me.
maybe i am wrong and i only saw unlucky 5s of my friends...

i think that the step from 4s to 5 is higher than the one between the 5 and the 5s

iPhone 7 maybe this time around. Too many new things to go with a 6s. Unless Apple is planning on a new outer shell next year to warrant a iPhone 7 name.

This year: ???

1. Force touch
2. 2 Gb of ram
3. Much better camera (12 MP)
4. Improved Siri
5. CPU
6. Better Battery
7. Better Screen perhaps
8. Stereo sounding speaker perhapes

Besides some websites have suggested a 7 instead of 6s
Force Touch is a gimmick nobody cares about. But we could use all the others.

Well, just like Siri, and TouchID, and various other things have been seen as gimmicks by various people, yet have been perfectly useful features that get used on a daily basis by many.

We do.

As interesting as it would be, it's absolutely not a possibility. It's too late in the game this year - we would have known by now.

I hope no one is expecting the iPhone 7 this year, remember the year the iPhone 4S was announced and everyone and every media outlet was expecting the 5. Some places were even selling cases for the rumoured shape/size .

Market won't tolerate a renamed same same iPhone 6/6 Plus. It better be a new design and call it 7.

I am expecting the iPhone 6s and 6s+, although it seems very strange that the only "leak" we've gotten so far is analysts' predictions of specs. If I recall correctly, we knew pretty much everything of the iPhone 6 in March and the iPhone 5 around that time as well. To me, this points to an "S" model because the same thing happened with the 5s. We got a real leak until July showing the different space gray color. I wonder if this happens because leaks are more likely to occur with different design models?

And we have the rear shells that show more support around the weak points like the volume controls. That tells us it's gonna be a 6s and 6s+ :)

I think it will be the 6S and the market will be there for it. However, I do think that more people are recognizing that they don't have to upgrade every year or even two, regardless what the phone is called. There was pent up demand for a larger iPhone, so the 6 and 6 Plus sold exceptionally well. I don't anticipate the one coming sell quite as well, regardless what it's called.

I plan to be buying, but I'm moving from an October 2011 4S.

The 5s was a massive performance gain over the 5. In fact it was pretty much double the speed in just about all benchmark tests. No other version saw such a gain than the 5s got over the 5.
