Just visited the Apple Store. Since none of the local stores have my model in stock, I had to visit the Genius Bar and get a replacement from them. It's not coming in a retail box, but it's still brand new.

I had 9 iphones 6s 128 done 6 black and 3 silver for my family and my company. All of them are the same hot during iTunes restore. Reset, I tried to make photoes during restore when they were really hot and I could. For now I stick with what I have, since Apple doesn't have too much iphones for exchange. 6s feels a bit warmer that 6, but in a light case I don't feel it

Nice to know, that they have replacements already.

Have any of them limited brightness or given temperature warnings?

Thats called a refurbished phone, without a box.

Refurbished less than a week after launch? Honestly, I would think that to be highly unlikely. Since it's within the 14 day return window, a return-for-refund and repurchase would guarantee brand new but I'd be surprised if refurbs are being sent out at this time.

Reactions: Newtons Apple
At this stage of the iPhone 6s life.. I have to imagine that it's still new
There will be many phones pulled from the production line with faults, and phones that fail final QC. My 6S+ is production week 37 so imagine how many phones were made prior to that.

I doubt it's going to be a refurb. Sure, there are people already returning phones with issues, myself included, but I can't imagine there being refurbished units already. I asked multiple employees and all said it would be brand new.

I'm still going to keep an eye on reservations. If a brand new retail unit shows up somewhere, I'll reserve it and exchange. Returning and reordering would require a 2-4 week wait. I sold my iPhone 6 yesterday, so that's not an option.

Hmmmm refurbished phone always has a new front and back cover. The inside components are used.

So yes its new, but on the inside is used components.

I see more people having this problem, can somebody tell me on wich soc is more the problem? Where the problem the most occurs?

You should have waited for them to get new phones in stock. Even if the phone is new, it will show up in their system as refurb. As a result, I don't think you will be able to purchase apple care (at least not in store) for this replacement. I think it would have to be done online.

I wasn't aware of not being able to get AppleCare for it. I never extend AppleCare anyway, as I upgrade annually, but that's a good argument for not going this route.

I haven't received the replacement yet. Still looking for a retail unit, but it's pretty impossible to find.

I setup my MIL iphone 6S yesterday. Had some issue where the phone kept rebooting after trying to restore it from a backup. Wouldn't get past the choose a WIFI network. Had to restore/update to latest software and then did a restore from backup and the phone finally worked. During all these restore attempts, I did notice the phone was very hot to the touch. I just thought it was a result of the restore. Now you have me worried. Will check with the MIL to see if she notices it getting hot.

I believe you can still get applecare but I think it has to be done over the phone or online. I had a similar situation last year where I received a replacement phone as there were no retail in stock at the time. Told me the same story that these were all new which I figured was possible as it was like the second week of release. It was only when I went back to the apple store and tried to add applecare they informed it couldn't be done in store as this was a replacement phone. I never did add applecare but from what I recall, I think I still had the option to add it but it was over the phone. I guess it's not a big deal if you can still add it. Me personally would just wait for a new one to get back in stock.

after about 30 days, I think the only way to get apple care added to a device is to go into an apple store. They look at the device and run some diagnostics, and then approve or not.

My phones were really warm, couple more degree from to be hot, during itunes restore. A bit warm during usage. IOS 9.0.2 made them really normal.

Really? What kind of soc you have? Samsung or TMC

Mine may be running a bit cooler after 9.0.2 as well. It still gets hot, but brightness hasn't been limited yet. It gets hot enough for the CPU to be underclocked though. I ran Geekbench a few times last night, while it was hot, and the results got progressively worse until it was at about 50% of its normal speed. I also noticed it wasn't charging, even though it was connected to my MacBook Pro. I wasn't using the phone, so it wasn't burning more power than it was drawing.

Finally saw a retail unit on Apple's reservation site but somebody must have snagged it while I was choosing a time. I thought it was secured at that point. I have a feeling I'm going to get a call to pick up the other one today.
