With the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, one well-known hardware feature got a substantial upgrade: Touch ID. Apple improved the Touch ID sensor, allowing it to recognize fingerprints faster than it could previously. We went hands-on with the brand new iPhone 6s Plus and compared its improved Touch ID sensor to the one in the iPhone 6 Plus.

The 6s Plus' Touch ID unlocks the phone almost instantaneously, taking a user straight to their Home Screen when they rest their finger on it. Comparatively, the speed of the 6 Plus' Touch ID makes it seem like a two-step feature, first waking up the display and then taking a user to the Home Screen.

On first impression, some users think the new Touch ID is too fast, however. Reddit user MasterofLuiz notes that it's so fast it affects how he usually uses his phone.
I can't even click the home button to check the clock without it automatically unlocking the phone. It's crazy
MacRumors forum member mykaluk has attempted to best the speed of the new Touch ID, attempting to tap the Home Button so quickly that it doesn't read his fingerprint. However, he notes that the Touch ID is able to read the fingerprint every time.

My 6S is so fast that when i even push on the home button, before I let off, it's been activated. Super fast.

"Too" fast you mean? :D

I think it's funny that some are complaining it's too fast. Lots of people saying it was too slow before with the 5S/6. Can't win can they lol.

I think it's great that it's "too fast". My dad refuses to use Touch ID because he says it's too slow (despite it taking no longer than manually "sliding to unlock"). He would definitely approve of this.

I like this. A lot. Touch ID is sooooo convenient.

It works well most of the time for me, but only when the sensor is completely clean.

I tend to clean my 5s a lot, so most of the time Touch ID works flawlessly, but after a bit of grease and fingerprint smudges, the accuracy begins to drop.

Glad this has been improved, as well as the speed.

I don't care much about speed, but I absolutely care deeply about reliability. My 6 Plus is maddeningly unreliable. The tiniest bit of skin oil on the Touch ID sensor or finger and it doesn't work. The same happens to my wife's 6 and our son's 5s. And I'm a clean freak -- no dirty french-fry-and-salt-laden fingers here.

The question is will it work better with sweaty hands? Currently, I have a iPhone 6 and either I have a defective touch ID or it just doesn't work with my hands 70% of the time (more likely). Hopefully, there is going to be a better solution going forward as touch id is expected to be used more and more. When I see it working like this for "normal" people, I feel incredibly envious.

I found Touch ID so unreliable on the 6+ that I stopped using it after a couple weeks. And I keep my phone very clean. It would work great for about a day after setting up the fingerprints, but then would become unreliable until I deleted and re scanned my fingers.
When it did work, it was very fast, almost instant actually, but deteriorated quickly.
I'm more interested to know if they've made it more reliable, so I don't have to re-enter my prints every couple days.

Can't wait to see these new features on iPhone 7!
Would it be at all possible that these improvements on Touch ID and new Forc.. 3D Touch
Would enable Home-Button gone completely?

I'm hoping so! Though I'm not going to hold my breath. I may be pleasantly surprised come next year!

But... If they DID implement Touch ID into the screen.. how would you unlock your phone? Hit the sleep/wake button, then Touch ID to unlock? Or would the screen wake up just from sensing a touch? If the latter, wouldn't the screen potentially wake up from a lot of unintentional touches?

It's going to need some serious amount of work and effort when they design those devices.
That's why it'll be so much worth it!

I for one think that would sell like hot cakes, I'd probably buy two and I don't even know why. :D

This one is so funny! Firstly, when was the last time geeks complained about something that is too fast? Isn't faster the better? Secondly, this could all be quite sinister that user can no longer press the home button to check the time. Apple really wants us to use AppleWatch to check time. It's more energy efficient too!

Too fast? Just unlock the phone with the sleep/wake button and not the home button.

easier said than done when you have used the home button to wake the device since the original iPhone..

it's much easier to press the home button when taking the phone out of my pocket (i keep the phone upside down)
