I too don't care what they call it. Whatever it will be it, will be, who cares. It's not important, what is important is what it looks like, what it has inside and what it will do for me personally.
I disagree, name is not just a name. Its part of the identity. If the name is 6se i know for a fact that next year is going to be big because next year will be the iphone 7.

However, if the name is iphone 7, theres no proof next yr is called iphone 8 with all those high tech improvement, like a curved glass body.

I agree. I was a little happy when it looked like they were going to do that with the iPad until the iPad Air came out. Now we have two iPad Pros without a standard iPad to compare it to. If and when Apple makes a 7.9" iPad Pro to replace the mini, every iPad will be a Pro.

Apple should just follow their own example with the MacBook lineup. Every iPhone should just be called "iPhone" and every iPad should just be called "iPad". If Apple wants to release a standard iPad plus another one with additional features, power, etc. then add the Pro name to that one. But drop the numbers.

I agree completely. Power-users can differentiate by year of release, like they do with Macbooks. (e.g., Mid-2012, Late 2013, etc.). In terms of advertising and marketing, it should just be name and size, no numbers, and modifiers (nano, pro, mini, retina, air, etc.) only when there is a conflict of specs within the same size. It also makes it more difficult for competitors to differentiate themselves.

The lineup becomes so simple this way:

- Apple Watch 38mm
- Apple Watch 42mm

- iPod 4"

- iPhone 4"
- iPhone 4.7"
- iPhone 5.5"

- iPad 7.9"
- iPad 9.7"
- iPad Pro 9.7"
- iPad Pro 12.9"

- Macbook 12"
- Macbook Pro 13"
- Macbook Pro 15"

- iMac 21.5"
- iMac 27"

- Mac Mini
- Mac Pro

- AppleTV

That lineup would be perfect IMO, and I hope Apple implements this sort of naming plan next year with the launch of the redesigned iPhone.

Which is yet another reason why I don't think that using a 6-series name makes sense. Apple needs to convince people to buy this year's phone before they worry about selling next year's. Calling this the 6-whatever is saying to the average consumer "nothing to see this year. Come back in 2017!"

That's so true hahahhahaha, that's what i was thinking, if it's named iPhone 6SE, there's a 90% chance i'm not buying and waiting for next year XD.

why is nobody reading the 9to5mac article about the possibility that the next iphone is called iphone 6se and 2017 iphone the iphone 7?

Changing to a 3year old design cycle? Iphone 5, 5s, se.

Iphone 6, 6s, 6se or 6 pro, 6X

Iphone 7...

Who really cares what it's called? I don't.

And if that's the name...only more reason to believe this refresh is a minor one.

Some of us don't care what name Apple places on their products, or what the release cycle is.. we only care that the devices work for our needs.

So you're saying if they call it 6SE you will likely not buy it but if they call it 7 you will. However the device would be the same irrelevant what they call it.

Don't really see the logic there.

If this year's iPhone is called iPhone 7, maybe next year is the iPhone 7S without noticeable design change like apple usually do, so i might be inclined to buy it this year. However if it's 6SE, i will be sure next year is the iPhone 7, and with a new number normally comes a design change.

It may not be logical be it's marketing, and at least he's being honest. There's a reason why companies pay people big money to come up with names, and logos, and ads. It's all psychology, and I guarantee you that an iPhone 7 will attract more buyers than an identical iPhone 6SE, just like selling something for $199.99 attracts more buyers than $200.00

My bet is going to be on that its NOT called the 6SE. The lineup could potentially be the iPhone SE, the iPhone 6S, and the iPhone 6SE. That's just plain confusing to the average customer. Hell, it's confusing for me.

My prediction is that the lineup will actually be the 3 sized phones: SE, 7, 7 Plus (or whatever they're called) with the mid-tier model dropped. The flagship and flagship plus models will get updated every fall, and the SE will get updated every spring (and thus always be half a year "behind", but still have the attractive price). If I stretch my prediction really far, I could almost see Apple giving the iPhone a slight price cut of $50, thus making the lineup start at:

SE - $399
7 - $599
7 Plus - $699

Okay, it's more of a dream than a prediction.

But even if it is the 7 it will still be the same device whatever they call it. We pretty much have confirmation that the design change is not coming this year and it is a rift on the 6.
