Mine had a scratch on the back center right out of the box. I also have the machining issue. Apple is replacing mine too. Seems to be a common issue.

No. I even tried to get them to let me switch to a matte black and they refused. I explained nicely that Target has no matte blacks and my choice was to return it for a different brand device and they still refused. They suggested I return it to target and go find a matte black which is laughable.
They only will also swaps for the same configuration. I think this is unreasonable given the circumstances. If apple can't even ship us JB phones without scratches, it's reasonable for me to decide the color is too high maintenance and ask them to make an exception. I tried the supervisor with no luck. So, I'll be getting a replacement JB iPhone 7+ and a ton of hassle. I'm inclined to take the replacement to the store with me and open it there just in case it has scratch(s) too. Frustrating. I'd return it outright but it's the best phone on the market right now so that would only hurt me.
Was your replacement in a retail box or was it in one of the white service boxes? Are you working with an Apple Senior Advisor or just a normal advisor? If you are not working with a Senior Advisor I would recommend you do that or if you are working with one, I would ask to speak to his/her manager and work the manager exclusively. It's weird, I asked my Senior Advisor if I could switch colors and she said absolutely, although I ultimately stayed with Matte Black. Good luck my friend, keep me updated on your situation!
