Ok so everyone who had their status change to back order said they're getting shipping notifications now and it's been almost 24 hours since my status changed...I'm getting worried

I placed two orders, one for myself and one for my wife.

Mine: iPhone 7 PLUS 256GB - Black
Order date: 09/09/2016 at 10:07:02 AM EDT
Shipping date: 09/23/2016 To 09/30/2016
Status: Website and *6737# both still say "Preparing to ship"

Wife: iPhone 7 PLUS 256GB - Silver
Order date: 09/09/2016 at 10:19:13 AM EDT
Shipping date: 09/23/2016 To 09/30/2016
Status: Got a shipping confirm late Sunday, was picked up by Fedex in Texas yesterday and delivered in NJ today

Both of us got the txt earlier. Wife got it at 1:15PM ET (after receiving the delivery). I got mine at 1:51PM ET. 3hrs later now and nothing has changed on my order.

I am very surprised. Just got my shipping notification. It shipped today and will be here tomorrow, shipped by Fed Ex overnight from Texas. 7 Plus, Black, 128 gb, ordered 9/9 4:21 am, paid in full by credit card. Now waiting on the one from Apple to ship.

Has anyone who ordered a 7+ 128 on 9/10 or later gotten a back ordered or shipping status yet? I ordered a 7+ 128 black at 2pm on 9/10 with an estimate of 10/7-14 with no updates at all. Just wondering because all the updates for the phone I ordered are for those who ordered right after pre orders opened.

Looks like I might be waiting until October after all. :(

wow. Good for you, that is great news!. I guess those of us who ordered either just before or just after midnight pacific aren't getting ours before everyone else. Stunning. Maybe we got lost in the "Routine Scheduled Maintenance" debacle later that night.
I order mine on 9/9 at 2:54 est

Mine was around 2 PM on 9/9 and I am still waiting :(

Do you guys think I'll get shipping soon? Everyone else is getting shipping info and I've been "backordered" for almost 24 hours...:(

Ordered mine on 9/11 with estimated shipment date beginning 10/14.

That's why I've been annoyed - if I place an order for the same model on apple.com Right Now, I can even get it delivered one week sooner than this date.

MB 7 plus delivered 4 hours ago and it was definitely worth the wait . Many more will be receiving shipping/tracking info this week. Hang in there!

Despite what the Macrumors article says, there is a major dearth of iPhone 7 and 7+'s in all of the U S. even the major flagship stores such as the State Street store in Chicago have none, zero, zilch. Until this improves I don't see our situation improving at all.

A few weeks ago someone on this forum started a thread asking what would be the first "gate" that people would complain about. I think we're seeing it now in "DeliveryGate, or Shippinggate". The failure to ship or deliver in a timely manner.

All may work out yet, however. Keep in mind that Tim Cook was brought into Apple by Steve Jobs for his logistical expertise. My dates like many others are 9/23 to 9/30, so technically I cannot complain until 11:59 PM on 9/30.
As I stated before, there is no "DeliveryGate" or other such thing.

Apple does not know how any of its products/services will actually sell once they're released. That's why there's always this issue. I was much earlier in virtual line when the iPhone 6 Plus came out two years ago, and we went through the exact same thing with AT&T.

When Apple creates a new device like the iPhone 7, it's a completely market-untested device in that they don't know for sure how many units they'll actually need by launch date. Now, one could throw in a bit of Sony-ism and suggest that Apple is purposefully holding back its own production yields to produce such demand. Personally, I think this is unlikely, especially with news out last week that Apple decided to increase production yield to 100 million units by year's end; that sounds more like a response to demand, not a creation of it.

While it would be fan-freakin'-tastic for Apple to have nearly all available inventory for nearly all available preorders, nobody has that kind of magic ball into which they could find such definite numbers for which they'd produce units.

Welcome to reality :)

2 IP7+ BLK 256GB, ordered 9/9 8:30am/12:30pm ET, 9/23-9/30

Same thing happened to me. Checked earlier today (*6737#) 12:17 p.m. CST, order in progress preparing to ship. Same status I have had since I placed the order.

Order placed 9/9, 7+ MB 128 at 3:20 a.m. EST, preliminary ship dates September 23-30th

Got the text message about my iPhone 7 plus being on the way, and checked *6737# again, my status is now backorder.
I hope this is a good sign....

UPDATE to my original post. Just received a shipment notification e-mail. FedEx tracking number, although not yet showing available in their system.

Spoke with an AT&T employee who said they don't know what caused this mass text or why it went out. But that they are getting a lot of calls about it and are escelating it to find out what happened.

This is from a friend who I used to work with there (I used to work at an AT&T call center during the iPhone 5S launch time frame) and still have family and friends there.

Buddy of mine told me it's not known why it went out, but they got bombarded with calls and are trying to find out. I know this isn't much news or really any news at all. But this is good enough confirmation for me that it has absolutely nothing to do with our orders and those who got the text and later had their status change to back order would have had that happen regardless and this has NO say on when the rest of us will get our devices.

7+ 128 MB is now showing backordered via text. Ordered 9/9. Looks like I might get my phone early after all. (Original shipping dates 9/23-30).

No media is covering what? That people are receiving their phones earlier than the original shipping dates they were quoted by AT&T when they placed their order? What a scandal!!!
Earlier dates was already covered by 9to5mac.com (likely among others) late last week, if I recall.
