Well, correct me if I'm wrong. The new animation works exactly the same as the old one. The old one was rubbish. The new one is not.

Apple did **** job.

Yes, the new animation is still designed to be interrupted, but they seemed to have fine tuned it so it's one constant speed and the wallpaper doesn't lag behind the rest of the animation. It's still differerent from the iPhone 6s animation on 10.2, but now it's very similar.

They've also made it so all iOS devices use the iPhone 7 animation

Haven't run into any issues personally. Browse the 10.3 thread to see if there's any issues others are having that might affect you if you were to download it.

Typical apple approach, i learned to live with a broken animation for some months now, my 7 plus and 7 regular have the same UI fluidity issues, a little more visible on the plus.
I don't even want to go there and ask why It took 3 major updates to fix it ...

I guess 10.3 is right around the corner, but i do like the fact they released lots of betas for this update.
Proper software is not done overnight.

Good news guys! It has nothing to do with the solid state home button. It's not a hardware limitation. It's completely software based. How do I know, you ask?

I enabled assistive touch and the effect is exactly the same as using the solid state home button.

It must be because the phone is simply too fast and Apple needs to adjust when the animations start and finish.

That aspect of it has been brought up and discussed a while ago already.
