I made this thread a few minutes ago but with the constant creation of threads right now, it got buried. I found the below:

There's this from Phonearena that shows the bands in the US with the bold bands being the carriers main one. So with that, the CDMA model has all those bands listed so should work on all 4 carriers right? This is confusing. The CDMA one doesn't list T-Mobile and AT&T, but it shows it has the bands to support them....

[doublepost=1473278791][/doublepost]What I want to know, is if you were to purchase a T-Mobile unlocked iPhone 7/7+ and tossed in a Verizon/Sprint SIM card a few months later, would it work?
Unless there is an active CDMA radio in there, just not listed in the SPECs yet, no.

It looks like VZW and Sprint will have Qualcomm modem
I want Qualcomm modem, but I have att and t-mobile. Going to open VZW account today just to order the correct model.
Apple alway has a "hemorrhoid " with pre orders.

It is still a big question mark if I buy Att/T-mobile with Apple Upgrade program , what I get 1661 or 1784?

Thank you for the Motley Fool link. It helps clear things up. I truly wonder about the upgrade program selling the A1660 & A1661 models. I think that is an assumption by the author. The upgrade program requires activation on one of the carriers. So if you have AT&T, they are going to give you an AT&T model iPhone if not for anything but ease of activation.

Darn. If only non Verizon customers could purchase the Verizon version.
There lies the question. I have a legacy AT&T unlimited plan that I'm not willing to give up. What's the easiest way for a non-Verizon customer to acquire a Verizon phone?

I also have Att grandfathered UDP, but who knows what happens tomorrow. I'm
going to open VZW account tomorrow and order Apple Upgrade through them, close the account later.
I don't want a "castrated" iPhone for the same amount of money. Apple could better bring money back from offshore than to save on a modem out of my pocket.
I really upset that Note 7 was recalled.
I just need 256 gb to keep my business vodeos.

P.S. It looks like no T-mobile MIMO 4x4 support on the "most advanced peace of technology", they have "castrated" model for T-mobile and it doesn't support 256 QAM.

The Apple FAQs on the iPhone Upgrade Program include this:

I’m buying an iPhone as a gift. Can I activate the iPhone at a later date?
Yes. When you buy iPhone on apple.com with the iPhone Upgrade Program, you can activate it later.

Might this mean that you won't need to give a carrier's account number when ordering a phone? If so, perhaps you can order A1600/1661 (the CDMA version) without opening a Verizon or Sprint account.

I was on Verizon pre-paid, which doesn't allow you to upgrade on Apple's site since the account isn't recognized. And since historically the unlocked SIM free version wasn't available at pre-order time, I just upgraded to Postpaid so I can either upgrade on Verizon's web site or Apples on Friday.

I wanted post paid early next year for an overseas vacation anyway.

It all depends on how you pay for the phone. AT&T users purchasing through the Upgrade Program will have the iPhone unlocked. If you pay using AT&T Next, it's locked.
