I've exchanged my iPhone 7 around 5 times because of this problem. This is unacceptable!

Hey, hey, I am joking. Don't worry, give it a couple of weeks...someone would have really done that.

Actually I would and anyone should be concerned about any equipment they're putting up to their ear emitting a high frequency output.

Otherwise, the root could be a connector issue to the battery as part of the manufacturing process, akin to what happens with adaptors like this:

.

My official one did it, and would create more sound under greater load. You can hear buzz through headphones under greater load as well on an iMac.

Let's hope it's not a battery issue that gets to Samsung magnitude.

I haven't heard mine make this noise, but if I did, I would let it bother me in the slightest as long as everything was operating normally. I can't believe the things people complain about these days, Id feel really stupid taking back to an Apple store and asking for a replacement because it makes a very faint noise when it is operating. Standing there both of you with your ears to it trying to detect the noise. Wow.

Ummmm...has anyone taken into account that this is simply the echolocation module? Dolphin communication was rumored to be included as a firmware update to complement the water resistance.

My 2013 iMac makes some silent hissing/buzzing sound when processing a video in Final Cut Pro X or Motion. But on a phone? I hope my model won't have this fault.

No one wants to be recording audio or video with hissing sounds. Cassettes and VHS are long gone. This needs to be resolved.

This is certainly interesting. Anyone here with technical experience with CPUs able to describe more in detail what would be making the processor sound like this?

It's not the processor, processors don't make noise.

This explains everything. It's due to inductors in the logic board

.

I'm really curious to know if the hiss is coming from the CDMA, GSM or both models of the phone.

The people posting that they have the hiss haven;t mentioned which model it is - or if they did, I missed it.

my macbook air has made a sound when it was working for ages. It sounds like an extremely faint sound of what a spinning hard drive would make, most noticable when you put your ear right on the computer. My guess is that it is the solid state storage chips as it seems to happen most on heavy disk access rather than heavy processing...should have used samsung flash instead of toshiba

Hm. If I put my hear to my iPhone 7 138 GB Matte Black's Apple logo i indeed can here some buzz sound. You need to really be tying to hear it to be able to just hear the hizzing sound. We'll see what Apple says in the couple of days.

I have a Verizon 7+ that is doing it. Only noticed after reading this thread and listening extremely closely. Not going to bother me at this point.

Could this be a reason that there were shortages of devices on launch day and part of the reasons not to report weekend sales this time?

Was Apple aware of such an issue before launch and in an effort to reduce future returns, less stock was made available until the issue is resolved and new replacement devices come online?
It could be. Contrast this with Samsung who reportedly rushed the Note 7 with too big of a battery and saw the launch blow up in their faces.

Tested my iPhone 6S plus, when stressed you need to put it right to your ear to hear it, nothing like the videos.

Very aware of coil noise in computers, one should not settle for it, I've replaced hardware and received another unit that did not suffer from it. 2013 Mac pros suffered from it, mine does not, nor would I accept it at the price.

If you have to put you ear right next to the phone, I don't consider it an issue. As long as it's not heard during daily tasks, even when stressed
