iPhone 7 bluetooth audio skipping

I've been having an issue with my 7 plus connected to the aftermarket panasonic head unit in my vehicle via bluetooth. I haven't really tried voice calls, but listening to music the audio skips out often and is annoying. I didn't have this problem on my 6 Plus that I had for 2 years.

Is this an iOS 10 bug? A hardware problem? Or something I'm overlooking maybe? I'd love to get this fixed.

alright. I guess that's my issue. I read that previously but didn't think it applied here because my phone connects fine. Also, in the same car my wife's iPhone 7 Plus works fine, but mine skips.
