I saw the loss of the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 as...

Don't use headphones (started to ween myself off of them with the 6s), watch my films silent w/subtitles while commuting and if I want sound, I'll wait until I'm either at work or home.

I do have to say I miss headphones during the commute sometimes, but most people are quiet even if they aren't in the designated quiet car of the train.

That said, I do hope Apple keeps the headphone jack on other products. I can understand going wireless with a phone, but the iPad and laptops, not so much.

I don't listen to music as much on my phone now that it is gone. And if I need to have things hands free I use speaker phone more when in the past I would have used headphones.

In relation to you listening to music with your speakerphone, the iPhone 7/7+ has really impressed me with the sound quality with the speakers. I primarily use my speaker phone for phone calls and I can leave my phone stationary, hearing someone clear across the room.

Apple may have all the reasons in the world to remove the headphone jack. But here is a fact. I normally buy myself and wife two new iPhones each year with my expense account. But this year, she kept the 6s because of the headphone jack. I initially got a 7+ but traded back to a 6 for the same reason. So I still have unused funds in my account and no desire to buy the new iPhones.

What was the actual problem you encountered with the lack of headphone jack?

I don't like carrying headphones around, instead I leave multiple pairs all around (my car, my offices, my briefcase, my bedroom, living room... you get the idea). A few times, when I travel, I didn't have one and so I just grab another pair on the go.

The problem is not just the adapter, it is also the idea of having to worry about the charging of yet another item that bugs me.

No headphone jack is an absolute deal breaker.

Still on 6S+

Waiting for a decent battery case with hp jack and lightening for charging.

Not sure how promising that seems. If it's not MFI Certified, it's not likely it'll work. Both non-MFI certified adapters I used no longer work effective iOS 10.3.

When I bought the iPhone 7, I bought two extra headphone adapters. Since I have more than one headphone, I just leave the adapter connected to one headphone and make it the dedicated iPhone 7 headphone. On the go, I use Bluetooth. But I also leave an adapter in my car at all time (or you can keep it in your wallet).

This is basically what I did. Have three adapters and place them strategically where I know I will need them.

Hate it. And it's a shame because I can see no rational reason to remove it. Considering samsung s8 now:(

That's obviously a heavily debated topic on the rationality behind the removal of the 3.5 mm Jack. But there's no doubt about it that Apple did remove it for one of the reasons to make way for the AirPods that debuted shortly after the iPhone 7 release. It's a way for Apple to market a product and ultimately give the option for a Bluetooth experience for those who want it.

Idc tbh but I miss it. I hate charging my headphones, and the sound quality is better plugged in than bluetooth until bluetooth quality gets better.

But it won't stop me from getting the next iPhone again. Not a deal breaker.

Where I miss it the most is my 17+ hour flights to China and Japan. I bring an iPod with headphones to plug in for those flights.

I have needed the adapter exactly once, and it wasn't life or death. I use BT in the car and BT headphones. The power drain of BT LE is not enough to sweat. BT LE power draw is minimal and the phone isn't boosting the signal to headphone volumes. A wired set of phones draws up to 10-20mW of power. BT 4+ specs out at 10-50mW of power depending on application. So there is not a lot separating them (music streaming is not the biggest power draw). Battery life is a wash or nearly so.

Quality - well your earpods vs Bose QC35s is going to be a tough sell if you are claiming quality. While there are some nice 3.5mm headphones, 99+% of people don't use them. If you are obsessed with quality, you would be using the lightning connector anyway, which you can still do on the 7.

If you plug that 3.5mm jack into your car stereo and want to talk about quality - ROFL. too much other noise and interference from the ignition system (spark plugs, not the keys).

Hated it before I got my Airpods. Was a pain switching headphones between my Mac and phone before.

Now that I have them I would rather have the extra speaker than the jack. I couldn't see myself going back to wired headphones ever. I would really love it if Apple launched the next set of Airpods with a few improvements. The charging system is great and really no complaints would like just a little bit more volume at times.

Because? (Out of curiosity.)
Because I'm not a fan of wired headphones as they get in my way, and gets very tangled up. It also frustrates me every time I try to untangle those damn wires. Of course at the time I didn't like bluetooth headsets because they didn't have great audio quality. But with the airpods, it brought back the audio quality I was expecting for.

I can honestly say, after over 8 months of owning my 7Plus. I have never once been in a position that I needed to use the lightning port for both headphones and charging at the same time. I already knew that in the last 10+ years of iPods/iPhones that I never needed to charge and use headphones at the same time, but this just verified that I really never needed it.

Yes, everyone's usage is different, but I truly believe that the backlash a year ago when rumors started coming up about no headphone jack was completely overblown.

I hoped I'd get used to it and bought extra adapaters. But it continues to be a total pain in the rear. I won't buy another phone without the jack.

That seems somewhat separate though given that even with the removal of the headphone jack there's still the lightning port that supports wired headphones, so that change hasn't really addressed that part of it. Not to mention that even with the headphone jack wireless headphones have been around for some time and could be used just fine.

I don't think iPhones will ever get them back, and in 2-3 years from now, I highly doubt any device will have them. They are just so outdated.
