Yeah I did notice, all I was saying is that it's not quite so relevant to compare to the 6/6s/se/whatever due to the difference in the architecture. 7 to 7 comparisons are obviously fine as they share the same architecture and can be reliably compared.

I was just mentioning the 6+ to show that even older devices are running ios 10 smoothly now - there is no way the 7s should be lagging, even going to the less intense processors. Unless he has a 7 plus then there could be an issue with the higher 1080p resolution, there was an issue with poorer performance on the 6+ for a while.

Yeah I know where you're coming from and as I say my 6 Plus is silky smooth on iOS 10 also. But if the iPhone 7 is using its low power cores, which for the tasks shown it probably should be, then the iPhone 6 and 6s are more powerful than the two cores in use so they will perform better, it's an unfair comparison. Which is why we can only reliably compare the iPhone 7 series to each other.

Regardless I do think it's a software issue that will be ironed out. Though you can of course not rule out a hardware fault without much deeper investigation.
I'm always just curious as to why these things happen on one device and not on another of the same type. Really what I'd like to do is hook it up to Xcode and analyse the various components as they run the tasks to see just what and how things are being used.

No I have the "normal" 7. I have just been and checked some display iPhone 7's at the closest store and they all have some lag (tried 3 different ones), hard to compare to mine specifically since they only had a few example mails and not the same apps but there was some lag there altho a bit less (maybe). Will probably turn mine in just to check unless the next open beta fixes the problem. Dunno if I am being super picky or not but that makes it 4 different phones with lag, weird coincidence if those 4 just so happens to be defect.

The less intense cores you are talking about on the 7s, which they switch to when not doing something intense should still be able to run the os super smooth and kick in in any apps which are more demanding. Out of the box before the update it was running totally smooth to me and nothing like the thread starters video. I cant see apple letting their new flagship being a laggy mess with their new os, it looks like there is something either wrong with the hardware in the thread starters video or some kind of background ram issue or mobile radio interference, never seen an iphone run like that, if the video fps is accurate

No harm in being a bit picky with new toys :)
But if you're seeing the same thing on all the devices your trying either you have pigeon eyes or it's likely software based.
But if it doesn't improve with later software there's certainly no harm in popping into a store and have them run a diagnostic on it, just to be sure.

Well they must be running smoother than your video shows, must be the capture software limitations adding to the effect

I completely agree that they should but I'm still leaning towards a software issue. Like I said earlier there have been lag/stutter issues talked about in the Apple developer forums but those issues seem to have been solved in 10.1 beta 2.
Like you I really don't see Apple releasing hardware that isn't up to the task of running the OS smoothly, so either there's some fundamental hardware issue they were unaware of, which is probably less likely, Apples silicon is normally pretty solid, or there's optimisation still to be done in iOS 10. Which from what I've read so far seems most likely.

If the OP really wanted to check, it is possible to install the latest developer beta without a developer account, just if he wanted to be sure.

They might, as I said, run a bit better but not good. But I can promise you that the video I posted don't make it look worse, if anything the opposite since the lag isn't the same all the time depending on how much is cached or not.
[doublepost=1475677563][/doublepost]I am hoping that the 2nd beta will be released to the public today so I can check if it makes it better. I really hope so!

Just installed 10.1 beta 2, for a second it seemed fine until I realised that was because I was updating apps in the background (it is really smooth then, probably because the faster cores kick in). As of now it is perhaps slightly worse with what looks like small screen tears when I scroll. Might settle down in an hour or so, we'll see.

Mine runs better than any phone I've ever had.

Extremely difficult to see any lag considering we can't see what your finger is doing. Looks like "normal" scroll behavior to me, sorry.

Would you say this kind of lag when scrolling is normal for an iPhone 7?

Hi I have severe lag/freezing on my new iPhone 7. Especially in the phone call screen. The phone freezes for a few seconds, up to a minute and won't open contacts, recents, favourites etc. I've reset to factory settings, no change. I wonder if it's a similar issue to yours?

No sorry my phone dont freeze up, "just" stutter a lot when scrolling.
On that topic, I have noticed that it stutters af when I scroll through the messages list. Will record it and upload tomorrow for those interested.

I was just at the genius bar, they tried mine and I tried their phone. They both lagged the same and that was "normal". So I can promise you all that claim yours is very smooth, I would disagree.

I'm having this same issue with my iPhone 7+. I had to search to see if anyone else was experiencing this and i came across this thread. I had a 6s Plus and i compared the scroll lag on both devices and it is definitely apparent. For those that can't see it, try to open up the Facebook app and view comments on any videos on your timeline, scroll on the comments and the lag will be there in full effect. I hope this is a software issue that can be fixed with an update.

Exactly my problem as well.
Very bad in the message app (when names are displayed). !!!!

And indeed super smooth when apps are updated in the background.

I confirm to have the same issue, even with a non restored device. My 6s plus is so smooth when compared to my iPhone 7 plus. Really annoying and disappointing :(
OP, have you found any improvement in the latest beta ?

I have the exact same issue, and because I'm a bit of an OCD person sometimes, I can't really enjoy using the phone as long as it is stuttering like that.
I also got a Pixel XL recently and for the first time this year I can say Android is smoother and more stutter free than iOS... sad because I really prefer the iPhone apps.

The worst part is that it stutters when scrolling in nearly every apps I use (first or third party) : message, facebook, youtube, intagram, twitter, app store, music... The smoothest experience I get is in reeder (great rss reader app by the way).

Oh, and I've tried the latest developper beta with no luck :(

Anybody has found any fix, or get any news from Apple about this ?

PS: You guys are saying that the stutter/lag disappears while you update apps from the app store ? Right ? I should try this.

The calendar in the years view is another terrible example.

Oh my god, you're right that's the worse.

About all this, I'm really surprised the huge majority of reviewers in medias or YouTube didn't notice and/or said nothing about it.

For me it's a major flaw it makes using the phone a pain, I didn't spend 1000 dollars to get the most expensive and sluggish phone...
I wouldn't say anything if I had bought a low tier android smartphone but here we are talking apple top phones...

Noticed this from the start, my old 6S with IOS 10 GM was so butter smooth.. But nowadays it has the same stutter :S
What really amazes me that hardly no-one is complaining about this, only complaining on the stupid app close lag...
Let's hope a 10.3 will solve most of the stutter issues, 10.3 should be there around the introduction of the new iPads which of course also will use the big/little core idea.

To be honest, I doubt they will ever fix the lag. Mostly because most people either don't see it or don't care, so why "waste" money to fix it? If every tech reporter had commented on it on release then maybe, but all I ever heard was "wow the fastest phone on the planet!!".
