Headphones through the jack are how I roll: I use them on phone calls, watching movies and listening to music while commuting. Not a fan of clunky big headphones either.
I am happy with my 6s... so no 7 for me.
Until you see what new stuff is in 7

3.5mm? I use this last time on a Sony Walkman. It doesn't have Bluetooth.
You clearly do not understand Apple nor their history.
Apple has always moved the industry with respect to change and getting rid of old interfaces/features for much better options. Getting rid of the 100 year old analog headphone jack sounds good to me.
5 1/2" floppy disks, floppy disks in general, SCSI interfaces, corded mice/keyboards, CD drives, DVi, ADB, etc are just a few examples.
There are plenty of other smartphone choices if you want to stay with old and traditional technology. Unhappy? Be brave, make the switch to another phone.
Yeah, the problem here is that this innovation is actually a move backwards. Remember the good old days when listening to audio from your phone required a proprietary set of headphones?
i'm sure if they ditch the 3.5, there will be some sort of splitter to allow you to charge and listen to music at the same timeAm I a dinosaur for charging my iPhone, while using it, while listening to headphones almost every night?
I can't even say how stupid this comment is. You can use your Beats headset with our without a headphone jack, so why "can't you wait", for what?Nice! Can't wait. I have been using my Dr beat bluetooth head set and never look back.
Here's how it goes...
Rumors: many complain and say they'll never buy an Apple product again.
Launch... many complain and proclaim disappointment and "fail".
3 Months later... iPhone sells at record numbers and Samsung announces their version of the same.
2 years later... everything people complained about 2 years prior they now accept as the "norm" and claim Apple stole the idea from someone else.
This is how it works... accept it.![]()
Battery life has either increased or stayed the same with every iPhone iteration, and is now approximately double that of when iPhone first launched.

This helps push the technology forward. It forces technology to become smaller and more efficient in the process. It may take a while but it will help innovation inside the phone.
Personally, I want a thinner iPhone plus series. I think it's too thick at the moment. I'd also like the top and bottom of the phone to disappear. Combining the ports is a great idea. Apple has always pushed innovation like this and hasn't been afraid to change the conventional thinking on such things.
no they are not fantastic, they sound as good as 30 dollar head phones, battery lasts 6 hours, and the sound when watching videos still lags even with the update.I have the Powerbeats 2. They're fantastic, good sound, long battery life and perfect at the gym. I don't know about old Beats products, but the Powebeats 2 are far from junk.

You can't use a wireless headset on an airliner.
It's not that proprietary. Several manufacturers already offer Lightning headphones. When Apple's change becomes official, count on a ton more. Apple will be driving the market.
That said, I really think the connection will be USB C rather than Lightening. That would align well with where laptop/desktop computers are going, especially Apple's.
"Lightning is a proprietary computer bus and power connector created by Apple Inc. to replace its previous proprietary 30-pin dock connector,

Apple is said to be working with Cirrus Logic to adapt the audio chipset in the iPhone to work with the Lightning port. With no 3.5mm headphone jack, the Lightning port, which is currently used for charging, will also be used to transmit sound to wired headphones. The chipset may also include new noise-canceling technology to remove background noise during music playback and phone calls.[...]
